Hey smashers, going into this area of the forum I noticed how there was no MOTHER love. So I wanted to change that. Talk about anything Mother,EarthBound or Mother 3 related. This is also the place if you have any questions about the games. Hopefully this can be a good place for all the fans to discuss.

I have yet to play them. I'm tempted to hunt down a copy for the SNES.

Well I just started playing it yesterday for the first time ever and so far I think it's a decent game. It has a certain charm to it. Especially each character you talk to.

Yeah I played about 10 mins of a ROM to see if I liked it and it was just awesome. Very unique.

Glad you all have good things to say about it, just played abit of it a few hours back today. Teddy Bears are lifesavers.

Big Time!
I'm barely at Threed with the Zombie outbreak and Teddy Bears come in handy there.

On a side note, I've heard people talk about Earthbound being "dark", but I haven't seen anything dark in the game yet. Does it get darker later on in the game or am I just missing something?

Yeah near the end it gets abit interesting. I dont really think the game is dark, throughout the whole thing its just trippy.

Nintendo needs to make another Mother, seriously, a great title like this should not be wasted, if they do make another one, make the fights more... 3D like.

I already have it for the GBA, thanks to playasia. I have this big *** packet of a translated text guide. Then with SM.net when they made the translation so yeah. A sequel on the wii would be awesome. I had a whole gameplay system idea me and my friend did.

Um, yeah, about that...

I heard that whether or not the game will be imported depends on the reception of Earthbound on the Virtual Console.

Also, I heard that there seems to be copyright issues concerning some of the pop culture references (e.g. The Beatles) in the game, so Earthbound isn't on the VC yet.

Yep, so far EB on VS is a no go. Because they are dealing with too many lawsuits from various things. There are rumours of them trying to get all that legalized.

The whole lawsuit issue is especially about song copyrights. The music is AMAZING but apparently a lot of people found their stuff having been ripped off =/
Whatever Earthbound is winnnnnnnn, and who care about ripping off songs? The game itself is a tribute to The Beatles lawl

Michael Jackson would. He holds the rights to reproduce Beatles songs.

Yeah he does, I was creeped out when I heard that awhile back.

As of now though I think what they should for the series is make an american release for Mother 1 and Mother 3. That way most people can have a english version of all 3 games.

One would have to do a lot of convincing for them to do that, since they are still conscious of Earthbound having sold poorly back in the day. It didn't help that people took their campaign a little too literally ("This game stinks", anyone? :p).

God that was soooo bad. I have no idea what they were thinking with that.

Well its a slim chance, but sooner or later Nintendo will run all the big names dry and they will go back. I have a feeling.

I like the mother series the way it is. The only thing I would like changed about it's current status now is a remake of mother 1 with updated graphics. Earthbound and Mother 3 are easily accessible by anybody with the proper "tools" lol

I do have a snes and eb cartridge though.

I remember, in one of my Earthbound playthroughs, I simply skipped the 2nd and 3rd Soundstone locations and later on in the game, I could NOT find the soundstone in my inventory. This thread reminded me of this and I'm going to test it out asap but if someone has encountered this before, comment please :)

That's strange, I prefer Earthbound to Mother3.

But maybe I prefer stories with more humor in them.
I prefer Earthbound's story to Mother 3 a little bit, but I can't take PLAYING through it. It's way too grind happy in the beginning (which normally wouldn't be a problem for me if it weren't for Ness missing his enemies so **** much).

Mother series as a whole is known for it's humor.

Ness misses more frequently with slingshots and yoyos. he doesn't miss much at all w/other weapons, same goes for everyone else.

Except the casey bat. Never use it.

EB and M3 are both amazing, and while I definitely like the music of mother 3 more, earthbound's been around for longer. It's really a shame the games go for so much and there are so few of them.

At the beginning, you have a bat. I actually died while grinding because Ness wouldn't freaking hit (and I couldn't run away). I see no accuarcy difference between Ness's weapons honestly. He still misses more then other characters and I occasionally (though not as often as in Onett) die thanks to it.

I went back and tried Earthbound again (had to start from the beginning due to save lost). I've warmed up to it more, but it still pisses me off in certain areas (Fourside Dept. store and Moonside are freaking gay).

Well I beat the game today. Now all I haven't played is Mother 1.

However, based on what I've heard, I may not bother for some time. Earthbound's grindiness almost killed the game for me and I heard the first game is the most grindy of the series :/

You had to grind in Earthbound? Wut.

Jeff can OHKO almost every single boss with the multi bottle rocket.

^Jeff isn't in your party in the beginning (Onett is most unfavorite part of the game).

Boss' were never a problem on their own. It was the various areas where normal enemies suddenly spike in difficulty and they are able to wear you down before a boss (forcing you to either retreat or take the boss with a weakened group). Sure later on once you can normally buy uber items it's sorta smooth sailing, but Onett, the Fourside Dept store, Moonside, and Onett later on make me never want to playthrough Earthbound again.

If you know where to find the invisible guy quickly, mooonside becomes easy. I do remember wasting a day in that place though when I was a kid.

The dept. store was retardedly hard though. I got a fear of cofee cups, guitars, and old music records from that dungeon...

I died so many times during the Fourside Department because Ness was the only on who was landing attacks.
Oh god, the Fourside Department store...That part was SO hard! The enemies were insanely powerful! It took alot of time and money to get through that part.

First playthrough = Not going to know. Even if I mark off Moonside to just a slight annoyance, I have a few other areas that I just don't enjoy going through.

I still enjoyed the game though. A younger me would've liked it more (back then I was masochistic for this type of difficulty).
