Got these few done just now. I think they turned out well, but I'd love to get a second opinion on them. Also @ Achilles1515 Achilles1515 thanks for the heads up about my broken link, fixed that. And I tried creating the two HPS from Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, but both tracks came out really quiet, probably due to the lower Hz rate. I figured changing it in audacity from 24000 to 32000 wouldn't do much besides add unnecessary space to the file so instead I change the sample rate in main.asm to 24000 however. In either event, the songs came out too quiet. I'll recreate the loops myself and upload them soon enough.

Hey I don't normally post just lurk but my buddy had an idea and I was wondering if it's possible .

Can you change the audio of the announcer on the css when you select a character? what file would that be ? essentially we just want to make it so when you select fox, instead Of it saying "fox!" Have it replaced by hmw saying "that ain't falco!"

Would anyone know how and be willing to do This?

I upgraded Brawl Custom Music to have HPS downloads. You'll have to do it from an individual song page for the link to show up, by selecting Melee as the "Download for" game from the dropdown list. Alternatively, just change the download link to have "hps" instead of "brstm." Be prepared to fix your fst.bin. I haven't read through this thread, so forgive me.

It should work for all of the 2 channel songs, which is 99% of the site. I tested earlier with Nintendont. I just need to write a script to update fst.bin with new files sizes. Slowly building up my custom list for Melee...

Please let me know if you encounter any bugs.

Also, I did come across one small bug. When I tried saving an HPS as "Original Name" (in the drop down), I got an error reading, "Not Found. The requested URL /hps/28600/ was not found on this server." However, if I just changed it to menu01.hps or something else in the drop down menu, it downloaded the file fine.

That's correct. I forgot how to math for a moment when working on this, but I got it working after almost 2 days. It pulls song data from a BRSTM and generates an HPS file based on it. It's a lossless transition, since they're both DSP ADPCM data.

That's not a bug. If you're downloading a file by just the song ID like that, don't use a trailing slash. /hps/28600 will work.

Edit: I downloaded that song, and realized i screwed up with songs that have a loop start lower than 57344 (block size 0x10000). I fixed it, so please redownload Dark Hill.

Nope. We do have rules on the site that forbid popular music (real artists and such), and movie themes. I wouldn't abandon this thread.

I'm really new to ISO hacking in general, so sorry if it's a dumb question. All I know is that I haven't located it in the root folder or any of the sub folder.

If I'm not mistaken, it's just the .toc file. This gets updated whenever you rebuild your ISO with GCR.

erm. so we can just download hps files from brawlcustommusic, stick em in, and rebuild the iso with gcr and it's good to go? already looped just as the brstm is, no need to worry about file sizes?

Speaking of this, @ Achilles1515 Achilles1515 , when/if you do a guide, could you also take a peek at the audio section in Melee Hacks and You and let me know which of those threads are obsolete or redundant? Seems like there's probably a bunch, and I'd like to clean that area up, but I hardly know anything yet on audio hacking. And then I'll add this thread and your guide to MHaY.

There is no one dedicated to fulfilling requests. You would be better off learning how to make HPS files yourself using my guide on the OP, which I've also linked to multiple times on this page.

Brawlcustommusic also has HPS downloads now, although I have yet to try it myself.

Fixed everything as of 13:54 EST.

I just fixed one last issue with HPS files with loop starts that are a multiple of 57344. I downloaded some more and they checked out. Please test any HPS downloads with vgmstream before inserting them into your game. I'm awaiting bug reports (hopefully no issues now).

Actually, I just noticed that selection "Original Name" has the link with trailing slash, so it's my fault. Fixed. I have not started on a script to regenerate fst.bin yet. It's located in the sys folder.

If that tool lets you use any file size, then yes. Yup, the HPS files pull the loop info from the original BRSTM and set the block sizes accordingly.

Yes GCR builds a new fst.bin (called game.toc in GCR) from scratch based on the files you give it.

(Idk if you saw, but I wrote a music playlist code for the next 20XX that supports up to 207 additional HPS files. But you’ll likely just run out of ISO space before you hit this number.)

That can be easily worked in, but yeah only in the standalone program. It's really just gonna be a modification of Revolution B, and my fork of it is on Github. I still need to port my code on BCM to that. I can resample the songs with sox, and then calculate the new loop points.

I haven't looked too much at anything 20XX yet, but that's awesome. I've mainly been focusing on Nintendont support, but yeah we need smaller file sizes for ISOs.

I also plan to write a function to rewrite it. What language(s) do you use?

And what resources do you know of for documentation of this file or other files? I know there's already a post around here somewhere describing fst.bin, but I'm just curious of other possible resources on the game.

So I just made my first .hps. It seems fine apart from a seemingly random blend of faint, and loud, popping noises. Dolphin had the same issue, but there were also moments it sounded like it was halting for a brief second - but that issue seems absent from my wii running nintendont.

Has anyone experienced something similiar? Or is this just par for the course?

I could also provide the .hps file if someone wants to look into it for curiosity's sake.

EDIT: I think the issue where it halted was just me not noticing it on the crt because the volume was louder on dolphin. But the popping noises are still weird.

There is no one dedicated to fulfilling requests. You would be better off learning how to make HPS files yourself using my guide on the OP, which I've also linked to multiple times on this page.

Brawlcustommusic also has HPS downloads now, although I have yet to try it myself.
