I'm back. And finally got a Wii U. I worked like 70 hours last week so I could justify getting it. My next step is grabbing video capture equipment.

Unfortunately it seems that this game just isn't for me. I have been trying my hardest to get into it but I have failed. The game only brings me frustration. I feel like it's just a worse version of Brawl. Charizard is what keeps me hanging around but I think it's the smart decision to just let it go and move on.

The rest of you have a good time and rep that Charizard.

So Zards smash moves to actual pokemon moves!

Neutral A Scratch
His side smash is Skull Bash.(There is a slight delay where he lowers his head before rearing it forward.
Forward tilt it tail whip.
Down smash is wing attack.
Down Tilt is headbutt.(less delay than skull bash)
Up Smash is scratch and bite combination attack?
Up tilt is another variation of wing attack
Side b is flare blitz as we know.
Neutral b is flamethrower
down b is rocksmash
up b is fly
Air down is dragon tail
Air side is slash
Air up is Slash
up throw is seismic toss

you guys have any other ideas to what his moves are?

Down smash is him stomping the ground. It's Earthquake.
Up smash is his wings. Since Utilt has invincibility on wings I'd
call that Steel Wing and Usmash Wing Attack.
Down aerial is his foot. Stomp.
BACK aerial is Dragon Tail (even has intense knockback like the game).
Pummel is Bite.
Neutral Air is another Tail Whip.

I had a Shulk player on the ropes yesterday. Last stock for both of us, he was at kill percent, I was at a fresh stock. He was trying to change to Shield Arte, so I took the opportunity to try to finish him with a Flare Blitz.

...then he cut out the switching and spotdodged so I wound up flying right off the stage, like a bull past a red cape. I can't believe I fell for that...

any move that does 13% or more beats it
In that case it's worse than I thought. A move that kills at around 120% that basically does only 10% damage because of the selfdamage is beaten by 13% moves.
At least that explains why Lucario seems to randomly beat it.

Does the same rule apply to aerial Blitz too?

I don't know. I've found FB really, really useful. As long as you don't spam it, it's a lethal punishing move that kills very early.

It does not kill very early. For what the move is it should kill way earlier.

Flare Blitz is fine, the move is absurdly good at punishing commitments from half a stage away, you can recover with it and you can manage rage with it (not that I endorse selfharm with it, but if you're at 130% you might as well use it more often than you would normally).

Well that's what you get for asking more KO power
out of a move that can cover over half the stage
to reach someone.
A doing the half the damage to yourself while being quite unimpressive if it doesn't kill. It's also very risky to even try it as you will get 9% + whatever the opponent decides to throw at you.

In the end, Flare Blitz is either for KO-ing or gaining stage control against a predicted projectile, as it won't put Charizard in the lead damage-wise(?)

9% stacks but that's why sparse usage is best, I guess ^.^;

In the event you smack into a projectile on the way, it's possible to take more damage than dealt, which happens commonly enough.

I have a confession to make.

Charizard is my rage character-aka, when I'm playing around and something bothers me(someone playing as ZSS/Sheik/Diddy/Mario, taunting a lot after they stomp my Kirby) and I want an easy win... I just go Charizard.
Everything about him just, works for me.

The range and lag on his attacks, the raw power, the flamethower that stops stupid ZSS/Sheik jumps in their tracks, his multiple jumps, his Rock Smash and FB's killing/recovery power...

I haven't ran into one Charizard player online(besides those jerks who switch into your character you last used to "show you how a PRO plays as them"), so I think my winning can be contributed to players not really knowing how to fight a Charizard...

Hey there, fellow dragon trainers(er, flying/fire trainers)! I hope you're all ready for a story, 'cuz I know you all don't know me, but I get a little too enthusiastic about my stories.

Oh Charizard. How I love this beast so. He was the reason I started playing Smash Brothers, more or less. I only really played pokemon at the time, but my local library had a weekly Wii event, and when I saw that Pokemon Trainer was playable in Smash, I just had to join in. I had a lot of fun with that game, and I was even the one who unlocked Lucario for everyone.

Years went by, and I started playing Pokemon Competitively. After that, I expanded my horizons and started playing other games to, like sorta recent-ish Zelda games and Kid Icarus: Uprising. When Smash 4 news started pouring in, I knew I had to play it competitively.

When I finally got my hands on the game, I practiced it over and over again until I finally felt comfortable with my favorite characters; Lucario, Link, and the angel twins. But Charizard I just couldn't get down. He felt too slow and too large for me. I chose those first three whenever playing For Glory, and only really ever used Charizard in single player.

But then, I found a fascination with Smash Run. I played Charizard in it, and found that his Rock Smash could do awesome damage to larger enemies. From there, he became my sort of "Smash Run Main", and I found myself using in Smash Run almost daily one the bus. Eventually, I become comfortable enough with him to call him a secondary. But it didn't stop there.

As I started to experiment with him more online, I realized he had a glorious neutral air, awesome up smash, and finally figured out when to and when not to use his Flare Blitz. Eventually, I found myself using him more then Link, and even Lucario. Then Smash U came out, and I started to play it as I normally would.

Just the other day I checked my Wii U stats....and I realized that I actually started playing Charizard more then Dark Pit, who I had previously considered to my best competitive character.

It's kind of cool that somehow, the character who I had started Smash with casually eventually came to be my competitive main.

Sorry for rambling. I wanted to introduce myself to other Zard fans, and I guess that's just the way I go about introductions.

Yo, welcome the Charizard social. I felt that Charizard was pretty terrible in the same vein I thought Palutena was bad, I suppose you just have to ignore or outright not use the bad moves (or use them in situations appropriately).

Once I figured out that nair and jab were things that existed, I started playing Charizard much better.

Hey fellas, I'm playing in an ~80 man local a little later today. M2K, Ralph Cecil, JJ Rockets, and Vidjo will be in attendance. Tourney starts at 12:00 p.m. EST

I'll try to make it as far as I can. I might use some Bowser Jr., but Charizard is by far my best character.

Stream is www.rtgn.tv

Btw, going back to the rock smash discussion/hype, it's an insanely useful move. The more I play the game, the more I use it. It makes your recovery better, can B reverse-downB it out of shield to cover what USmash and Fly cannot out of shield, the "shrapnel" has a big hitbox and it lasts forever to punish spotdodges.

I've seen a few people running around with some of the different characters(aka not ZSS, SHEIK, DIDDLY) saying they're going to this 80 man tourny, man, more power to you for wanting to rock Koopalings and Zard! Hope that at the least you rank top 20, shake things up a bit. :)

I just played against a Charizard on For Glory that was so ****ing good. I was only winning because of the matchup (I'm a Sheik/Marth main) with Sheik, and I got absolutely just slaughtered with Marth although I'm not as good as him as with my Sheik.

His name was Ricky (both smash nick and Mii name), anyone know him?

Hopefully character loyalty will end up hurting the opponents a lot more :p
Welcome to the boards! I'm new to Smash myself, so let's do what we can to make the character a feared one!

IMO, Charizard is a bad character with some interesting and powerful gimmicks. But he just HITS THE RIGHT SPOT in terms of characters I like to use!(I play other fighting games as well) Besides, he's just SO COOL!!! *Charizard is my favorite Pokemon*

So I'm loving playing :4charizard: more and more as the time passes (loved him in Brawl too if it werent that I had to pick :squirtle: every time I died). Probably he is a solid secondary for me, if only :4sonic: weren't so ******** easy to use :4charizard: would be my standard secondary. :4dedede: is still my best character in the end. I'm just a sucker for heavyweights in fighting games.

I might try him on the next local weekly tournament to surprise some people.

I know him, he frequents NeoGAF's Smash thread. Played him once before. Want me to pass a message to him?
