Chris, of course I've seen Beauty and the Beast, but it's been like over 15-16 years since I've seen it so I literally only remember the basic plot.

It's not. It's directed by Don Bluth, who used to work for Disney before splitting off to form his own company. He took a lot of Disney's animators--it was a nasty break-up. His films look like Disney films because that's how he was trained. Other examples include All Dogs Go to Heaven, Anastasia, Secret of NIMH, off the top of my head. There's also a film about a magical troll in some park, which was a total flop.
