But on topic. The reason for my using the Temp Debater status to beef up the DH is because of two major things. For one, the Debate Hall is a room of intelligent topics and is usually intimidating. With temp status you are asked to post and prove yourself with the other guys and it forces you to get over that fear. Secondly, debating is something comparable. Some people can't articulate points as well as others, can't back up their points, or flame. Thusly, they aren't allowed in.

The Broom is like a social club with restricted membership to keep it special and unique. When we allowed premium members to have instant access we lost that uniqueness instantly. There was no mystery to the room and thusly there was no reverence within the room. I remember applying with Treget (yes, Ole Treget) and talking to him for a while before I got in. Once I got in I was pretty worried of making topics or posts so I raised my standards. Premium members just got in without any real proving themselves and bought their way in. This is why I think the Premie VIP should be their private room and we, the Broomers who can view it, should use that as our pool FIRST for taking in new members. Then the general consensus. So , they are still moving themselves up to be noticed by paying, but still must prove themselves.

As for speaking English, I say, yes, you have to be able to speak English to get into the Broom. This site is probably 95% in English (I made that up), so of course most members will speak it. If you can't articulate in a language all can understand, it will kill most conversations.

I still think keeping topics like this alive are great to get member feedback and interest up.

A couple other quick things before I get 4 hours of sleep:

1) The broom does have a lot of say in who gets in. Just not final say. Hiemie and I try to let in 1-3 members based solely on Broom recommendations each round.

2) The rule "if you want in you don't get in" is misunderstood. It's an urban legend. Really, it boils down to the fact that someone who ONLY wants into the Broom is not someone who is improving the boards. If someone's sole goal is to get Broom access, and they will leave Smashboards if they don't get it, then they are here for the wrong reasons. We are a Smash Brothers board that has a tight-knit community inside of it. So, if you find yourself surrounded by idiots, I can promise you: broom access won't help.

I agree with most of the Broomers on this one. The BRoom is a tight knit community within a public forum where we can talk about things that we cannot talk about on the rest of the site. It's a place to relax with others who are also capable of quality posting. Allowing a "revolving door" policy would cheapen that. At the same time, many non-BRoomers put the BRoom up on a pedestal, and to them, I just have to say that it's not as amazing as they might think it is.

The thing about the BRoom is that it's this amazing, secret place that nobody can access and if they don't want access to it, they MIGHT get in. What I'm saying is that it would lose its lust if people could look at what's in there if even for just a second effectively destroying their curiousity and desire for entry.

Also, it seems as though several BRoomers post private stuff in there and I don't believe its right for their privacy to be revealed to possibly immature people (not saying all BRoomers are mature, in fact, I'm not saying that at all) where they could be ridiculed or ridiculed further (assuming a BRoomer may have ridiculed them).

I'll admit, I desired entry for a little while but I can care less anymore. In fact, I seem to have made my place as a permanent PRoomer. When you think my name, you think of the Pool Room. So ultimately, whatever you decide to do with this is completely up to you but I don't think its a good idea if you want the BRoom to be interesting to non-BRoomers.

I'm the kind of guy that likes to sit back and watch things happen. I don't want to be able to predict what will happen. I never saw Virg and Wobbles becoming BRoomers coming. That suspense and spontaneous nature of the BRoom in and of itself is interesting to see from my perspective. I've already come to terms with the fact that I'll never be a BRoomer and I actually feel better since when I think about it, I'm a PRoomer no matter what.

So I can honestly say, in an unbiased manner, that this idea would be bad.

Yeah, I believe FlareBlade paid to get in and when his membership was up we chose to renew him. Also, Wak was made a moderator/broomer and he's obviously not a native speaker. But most of the time, crap language is a symptom of a poster's laziness. It's not like we're trying to keep foreigners out.

I think the description on the main forums page is basically right. To be an "excellent poster" you have to consistently put thought into your posts. Keep in mind that your post might be read by hundreds of people, don't waste their time.

The basic qualities you need to become a broomer:

Friendly
Knowledgable
Friends with Scav
Australian
Eloquent
Outstanding Achievement in the field of Excellence

Now you don't need all of these qualities, as some obviously contradict each other (Australians can't be eloquent, and you won't achieve anything in the field of excellence if you hang out with a lazy vagrant like Scav) but I'd say you need 4 of those qualities. They might seem subjective but that's why we have a broad nomination process rather than one or two people deciding everything.

If you feel like you don't have the right build to become a broomer you might find that aiming for a class promotion to Moderator is a better route for you if you have high INT and DEF but very low S. HUM.

Ugh. I don't like this thread. It's great PRoom conversation, but deep down, it makes me feel like an incompetent failure.

Before, I always thought I wasn't in the BRoom because I haven't really gotten to know any of the members here. I was fine with that...

But in reality, it's probably because one day, someone nominated me, and after a careful sorting of my pros and cons, I was denied access.

Makes me think. Was I denied by only 51% or 99% of BRoomers? It's kind of freaking me out, because, am I really as bad as the average PRoomer?

I know I'm not supposed to think about stuff like this, but whoever says they aren't is lying. Especially when there's a whole thread about how to become a PRoomer, what we're doing wrong, and what we can do to improve.

Wow, that really made me think, serously. Did you mean to go that deep into your post? I think I know the reason you were nominated. Anyway, I don't completely think it's a bad thing to post here in the PRoom, but I don't think it's something to brag about either. I mean, I don't strive to get there, and I know a good amount of the members here, my own personal reason to post here isn't to get into any password protect area or anything, it's what I've been doing the whole time, getting to know the community as a whole, and be the best I can be at SSBM.
