Spam is spam.
I wouldn't call it spam, I'd say it was relevant, aMSa won and the chat was celebrating with yoshi pictures and #pray2win

It was a joke anyway, I'm not bothered about being banned from CT stream chat, it's just Kappa kappa kappa lol

Why are you people even giving this moron the time of day? Let this thread vanish into the obscure dimensions of a Brony's anus like it was originally destined to do.
I'm not a Brony, and even if I was, no one deserves that kind of treatment.

CBA to quote but where you watching the chat? The chat was literally at least 50 messages a second. The chat was just useless spam and NOTHING else.

Only people enjoying it where the spammers. Sub only at least some people got to enjoy the chat. I'd MUCH rather prefer a separate sub only chat but sp00ky was well within his right to stop all the crap. With Smash trying to become a bit more professional, I don't think the idea of a spammed chat filled with nazi flags, knobs and large text crap looks good. What if the sponsors see that and then decide they no longer want to support? That's why there is censoring for the commentators, I think that chat should also have to be at least somewhat mature. You are just taking the great stream sp00ky put together for granted and being salty about the most useless stuff.

"Spooky isn't a beast, he's a human being who doesn't know how to run a stream."

Honestly this better be a troll or else I'm actually feeling embarrassed for you.
Sorry but I see streamers with 50k+++ views and they handle the spam quite nicely compared to this guy who only had 20k-30k viewers and was forced to change to sub only mode.

Hahaha, oh wow. Child confirmed, what a joke.
Grow up kid, automatically assuming one is a child simply for stating the truth. My Main Twitch has over 130,000 followers, over 10,000,000+ total views, unless you can get on par with me, don't talk.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Clash stream it with Japanese commentators?
Yes, they did.

I thought spooky did a great job, especially with the com cam, that looks hella pro

I thought the names of players should be at the bottom not at the top but that's one tiny tiny complaint

I got permanent banned from CT chat for posting one yoshi text face thing ( and only one!) after aMSa won so screw CT

Spooky > CT
You got what was coming, if you spam you should get perma-banned.

This is the sign of an immature community, not the sign of a bad streamer.

No, I've seen chats worse than this and they are handled perfectly.
I would be on for example BTS and there would be over 50k+ viewers, they ask ON camera to not spam, sure a few do spam anyways, but they get permanently banned.
Sp00ky on the other hand he gives warnings in a chat that is getting over 50++ messages every second. A pathetic way to react to the spam.

Why would he ask on stream DURING a match to stop the spam? Especially since most of the people watching don't care about the chat at all. Also, he turned on sub mode only at first for a few seconds to give everyone a warning to stop the spam, but when he turned it off the chat continued to spam so he had a perfectly good reason to keep sub mode on.

I closed the stream, I refuse to watch content produced by such an unprofessional, shady organization.
As for them doing a fine job, they didn't.

I'm not salty at all, I'm just angry and upset that he put it on sub only since he was lazy.

I somewhat agree with this. If the chat has over 10k++ viewers, the chat brings hype etc. If it has less than 1000 viewers than you can have a coherent and intelligent discussion.

No, I'm unlucky we had a horrible team streaming Apex, so horrible and lazy that they just turn it on to sub only rather than actually putting in the work to mod people and ban each and every single one of the spammers. If they love their fans so much they wouldn't take the chat away from all(large majority) of them.

If he wanted to keep it professional he wouldn't be lazy and just turn on sub-only. Also, he's literally giving a warning to over 25k+ people, just a mere 100 kids spamming could ruin it for the rest of the 24,900. Thats a pathetic and lazy way of dealing with things. I'm never going to watch this Sp00ky brat ever again.

I agree, VGBC or Clash Tournaments should've streamed it.

Streaming is extremely easy, he wasn't doing everything alone, are you kidding me? He had plenty of people helping him, give them credit. Stop riding him.

No he isn't. You have VGBC | GIMR and other hard workers. I am actually ashamed we had this clown streaming it, Clash Tournaments or VGBC should've streamed it. I'm not showing respect to someone who is so lazy that he would just turn the chat into sub mode instead of dealing with the issue. Not to mention all the people out of the Smash community who had to witness some random guy toying with the community. Giving a warning to over 25,000+ people expecting EVERYONE to listen.

Instead of being lazy and turning on sub chat he could've just said a warning saying "anyone else who spams will be permanently banned from the chat" and proceeded to permanently ban the spammers. Its not hard, a lot of professional streams I see handle it exactly that way. Well, they usually ban for 2-5 minutes and perma-ban repeat offenders. If you look at professional streams in League of Legends or Dota 2 that have over 75,000+ views, they're not lazy, they take care of it the way it should be done.

Two warning to the chat? He gave warnings to have 25,000+ people, do you honestly expect EVERYONE to listen? Atleast 100-200 people were spamming, does it make any sense to punish 25,000+ people because 100-200 people are children who love to spam? DO YOU HONESTLY expect the entire 25,000+ people to be mature? Are you serious? The subs AREN'T paying for the chat, they are paying to support their streamer.

Just perma-ban them, its not hard, its not hard to get moderators to mod the chat. If he can't do that he shouldn't be streaming.

Spooky isn't a beast, he's a human being who doesn't know how to run a stream.

I don't watch it for the chat are you serious? I was watching the stream for Super Smash Brothers, I would've rather had some person record the matches with a horrible camera than Spooky. The chat adds hype and it can be funny sometimes. All he did was strip all of that away and make the Smash community look horrible to the people tuning in who have never seen Smash before.

Agreed. I was extremely annoyed when this happened. Even though you can't have conversation in that kind of chat...are you really expecting to? It's like a digital crowd, and you're just getting a sense of the hive mind by what's repeated. I love seeing everyone latch onto one joke or idea and post it together. That is when Twitch chats are a their best. It's almost like a micro mega-fast-paced evolving culture, where there is an accepted lingo and symbology, fads/trends that come and go in a matter of minutes, and just a general sense of people playing off of each other. If you want to have legitimate conversation, do it on forums or something, not during top 8 where you'd barely be paying attention to what's being said aside from things that multiple people are posting just by matter of probability. Would you rather see the hyped consensus of thousands or the boring reactions of dozens? Embrace the chaos.

Besides, if Apex is supposed to be the all-purposes Smash tournament, they should support the community and hire VGBC or Clash to stream.

spooky can reach a bigger audience compared to 'only smash' streamers like vgbc or ct, I saw a lot of people saying 'this game is so HYPE' without knowing anything about the game and without the FrankerZ spam. keeping this evo/doc momentum is more important for the community than saying 'NAZI MODS' 'MY CHAT EXPERIENCE' or stuff like that (it is fun, but not every time)
and the stream was really good, so shoutout to teamsp00ky

I can't believe there were people who were not watching this **** full-screen, only alt tabbing to type hype messages to their friends.

I’ve always been wondering why VGBC and CT only stream in 30 fps and not 60 fps. The quality difference is huge and even I was able to set up a 60fps with above native resolution stream at smashfests in my house with 3G internet that has 3Mbit/s upload speed at most.

Seeing Spooky stream top 8 in 60 fps with perfect quality was like a wet dream for me. You want to trade off half the framerate for spam in the chat? Are you serious, man?

When so many games, each wanting some amount of stream time, are featured at a single event, you may need more than just two streamers (who, by the way, were already there streaming yesterday in addition to Spooky).

Spooky is the best streamer we have in the FGC, there's no need to dismiss him because he took the precautions for people blowing up the chatbox.

I literally made an account just to tell you to get off the internet.

With the exception of maybe 2 people, the thread is filled with people disagreeing with you...maybe you should take hint.

If streaming is that easy in your eyes, why don't YOU stream, generate 10k+ viewers, stream consistently for 3 days at a major tournament switching between various games while dealing with a spammy chat then come back and let me know.

Go on.

I'll wait.

Sp00ky is the best in the business. people are really complaining that he made his chat sub only? really?

you could have just used nycfurby poverty chat anyways if you cared THAT much
This. Plus, people make it sound like streamers shouldn't make money. Streaming at events like this isn't a simple task. It involves a vast amount of equipments and organization.

I know that...I was talking about the main stream.

Honestly, I don't see a significant difference between the quality of any of the Apex streams. The only things sp00ky objectively had over the others was a better commentator cam and the brand name. As someone who doesn't follow the FGC, I can't justify subbing just for a few hours because reasons, but if it were a Smash specific streamer, that might be more reasonable.

Seems like we're in a troll thread. Especially how he denies he's a brony with a brony avatar.
My friend put that, I thought it was funny so I didn't change it. I didn't think kids would make such a big fuss over a picture.

All it takes is 5-6 seconds to say "Chat please stop spamming." Considering how much D1 and Prog were fooling around and stalling, 5-6 seconds is nothing.

Exactly this is my point. Its like being at a stadium and everyone is cheering, its like telling everyone to stop talking and only Staff and V.I.P members can talk. If someone is making a commotion just escort them out. This was a horrible way to react to the spam.

spooky can reach a bigger audience compared to 'only smash' streamers like vgbc or ct, I saw a lot of people saying 'this game is so HYPE' without knowing anything about the game and without the FrankerZ spam. keeping this evo/doc momentum is more important for the community than saying 'NAZI MODS' 'MY CHAT EXPERIENCE' or stuff like that (it is fun, but not every time)

By taking away the chat he basically made the entire Smash community look like children who can't behave themselves when it was actually him just being lazy. All he had to do was perma-ban spammers, similar to what happened to someone in this chat by Clash Tournaments. When theres thousands of people watching there is bound to be spam.
If he can't handle that I'll never consider him to be a professional stream.

I can't believe there were people who were not watching this **** full-screen, only alt tabbing to type hype messages to their friends.
I was watching it in full screen, but when something stupid would happen I would exit full screen just to look at the chat for a good laugh. Sp00ky took all of that away.

I’ve always been wondering why VGBC and CT only stream in 30 fps and not 60 fps. The quality difference is huge and even I was able to set up a 60fps with above native resolution stream at smashfests in my house with 3G internet that has 3Mbit/s upload speed at most.

I was in ClashTournaments' stream listening to the japanese commentators scream with hype in grand finals. That was much cooler than listening to the same ol' 'Prog and company' (no offense to Prog, he's a great commentator).

So just now Team Spooky turned the chat to sub only because after D1 asked "is Fox a dog" everyone started spamming FrankerZ. The thing is, this happens in numerous other channels, someone makes a mistake and people spam about it, the thing is, its not nonstop, it stops for a while. Those channels don't make it sub only because of spam, they deal with it in a way that doesn't punish everyone. Also, instead of making the chat sub only, they could've just timed out the people spamming. This is an extremely unprofessional reaction, all they had to do was time out/ban the spammers and or mod more people, then this problem would've been solved. If anything, make it so that you can only post a message every 1-2 minutes. Its sad how they are too lazy to deal with the issue. Should've had Clash Tournaments or another professional stream to stream Apex 2014 melee. When there is over 20,000+ people viewing a stream, theres bound to be spam, and this is a sad way to deal with the issue. For the record, I wasn't spamming nor was I even talking in the chat, I just find the chat funny and its really sad how they just take it away from everyone.

TLDR - Team Spooky shouldn't be the ones streaming Apex Melee considering how lazy they reacted to spam, instead of modding people or banning people, they just take the chat away from everyone. Next time, let a more professional stream stream Apex Melee, like Clash Tournaments.

I didn't say I don't enjoy them, I just said I liked switching over to an alternative, considering Prog and D1 commentate on just about every major tourney ever now.

I love Twitch chat. Find it ****ing hilarious. This is coming from a Dota player/viewer tho.. ******** spamming and in-jokes within Twitch chat is just part of the streaming culture in that game. A stream just isnt complete without twitch chat. Team spooky did fine but I dont think he should have closed the chat. If you hate the spam then full screen that ****, if you like the spam (which some people do) then read it. The sub-only chat literally provides nothing

" The sub-only chat literally provides nothing"

Because you aren't a sub. Nazi/emote spam provides nothing going off the same logic. I like the chat when a hype moment happens and everyone freaks out. I don't like seeing 5 minutes straight of a dog or swastikas.

I love the spooky channel and have watched plenty of streams and vids from him. Hundreds if not thousands of hours at this point. The stream chat was getting nuts. I was bored to hell watching brawl as well but I didn't feel the need to spam chat about it every 30 seconds like everyone was doing. Some people were actually trying to conversate with one another but it got ruined by the spam. It wasn't even hype spam it was just whining about brawl. I didn't like it either-so I turned it off.

One thing people seem to forget though, and I'm not taking a side; team spooky gets paid to do these events. Don't say the man is tired and you should be lucky he's streaming. He's doing a job. He gets paid from twitch, youtube, subs, madkatz etc.

Instead of posting a thread to complain about this, the professional way to resolve this issue is to call Mr. Sp00ky and demand a refund. Better yet, if he refuses, you can sue him for taking the right of twitch chat spam away from you and everyone else.

Ok so that people will stop retardedly dismissing the point at hand, let’s acknowledge that OP is obviously a child and/or english isn’t his first language. But his point is valid.

I think the issue is that Smash is not really a commonly streamed game so most of you are coming from a completely different perspective. If you frequently watching popular games on twitch you would understand that in the big picture 20k viewers is not that much. There was over 100k on the English Stream alone (combined 300k) for the Starladder 8 Finals this weekend. Moderating 20k viewers is a task but is FAR from an impossible job. Combined with the fact that there are tools to make moderating really easy (slow-mode, r9k mode). You also need to understand that for A LOT of people, particularly people that watch games commonly streamed on Twitch, the Twitch chat is an important part of the whole experience of a stream.

Get a life. Judging people off their names and their post count, typical child. Don't post if you're just going to spam.

ya'll getting trolled.

even if you werent this thread is pretty pointless.
This thread isn't pointless, I'm saying that Sp00ky shouldn't stream Apex 2015 or any other Smash events considering how poorly he dealt with the situation.

No difference between 30 and 60 fps? Either you're trolling or too much of a noob for your opinion to have any value.
I can see the difference between 30fps and 60fps in video games, but when I was watching the other streams I saw no difference.

Exactly. Sp00ky stripped the Twitch culture from his chat, I don't want a brat like him streaming Smash Melee. Its an embarrassment to the community and it aggravates me that Alex chose a guy like him.

Spooky brings exposure to a wide variety of scenes within the fighting game community to view and appreciate Smash. He should continue in my books.
Cool, he can stream his fighting games, he just needs to never come near Smash Melee again.

So, you're complaining that Clash didn't stream it even though you knew that they did? Okay. I guess.
No, he was streaming the English commentary, either he shouldn't stream Smash Melee or he should've taken the Japanese commentators. He had the bulk of the viewers, so this fiend was making money, I wish a more community orientated stream like Clash Tournaments or VGBC took the bulk instead along with the English commentators.

Are you serious? Theres over 20,000+ people watching and you expect to have NO spam and a clean conversation? This your first time on Twitch? You are a prime example of the kids disagreeing with me. You're ignoring the whole point and just riding Sp00ky. I'd rather have Clash Tournaments, VGBC, or a more competent stream get paid than Sp00ky considering how poorly he handled the situation.

I agree with your post, but how am I a child or what makes you thing English isn't my first language? Don't make baseless assumptions kid. As for the rest, I agree with your post completely.

You're a moron. I said nothing of the sort. I took a neutral standing. Why don't you just become a subscriber if it bothers you that much.
