64 = 12 target test maps.
Melee = 25 target test maps.
Brawl = 5 target test maps.

WTF?

Actually, this might be a little better. Now we can use all the characters on each map, whereas before it was only one character per map. Still though...25 down to 5.

Yeah, totally and utterly awesome. I think this should have been the main announcement, because the target test 5 map thing is very...Oh-ish.

Yeah. The 5 levels of target test was a bit of a surprise. I guess they did this to give more appeal to target test, give more reason to why people should play it often.

Come February Brawl will be the funnest game on the planet (Right next to Halo). XD

I'll take 5 challenging maps over 35+ cakewalks. Of course, I doubt that's how it'll be. The toddlers and grandparents would get frustrated too fast

are we sure this is what it means? I am still reading it as 5 total...

i guess it isnt that big a deal. With Subspace, Multiplayer, and most likley the classic Master Hand modes, these mini games are a bonus gift basically and I guess I shouldnt be complaining, which I didnt really mean to do anyway

jeeze how are they gonna fit this all on one disk...

No, all it says is "This time, there are five different maps of varying difficulty!", nowhere does this say "There are only 5 maps", to me it says "Every character has 5 different Target Test stages of varying difficulty!"

wording seems to suggest that it's 5 maps period, not per character. I mean honestly, if we're getting maybe around like 40 characters, 5 per character just isn't viable. It's rather ambiguous wording but I'm pretty sure it's just five maps which is a shame.

not that I really care, I mean it's not like I actually play target test lol

5 maps total would be idiotic, how would they place targets in specific areas that make it univerally challenging for every character? If there were only 5 maps total, Stage 4 may be nearly impossible for Bowser, but ridiculously easy for Link. It would not make any sense for there to only be 5 stages total,

The fact that they say "This time we have <blah>" to me suggests that they are pointing out that they are ADDING something, as in, adding 5 different target tests of varying difficulty for each character

They came up with 26 Target Tests for Melee in only a 10 month development period, with Brawl they've had 2.5 years worth of work, you don't think they could pull that off?

Nehhh, I still reckon it's 5 alternative challenges per character.

I think that even if it was only 5 stages, there would be slight modifications to the layout of targets and platforms for each character.

Good grief, if it was five maps per character, I could only imagine how long it would take people to master the mode. I wonder what stadium junkies will have? 40~ times for each mode? "Total Blue time, total green time, total yellow time" and etc? Or does BTT instead only have 5 maps total, and the very fastest time of all characters gets saved, severely limiting its appeal?
Im also wondering how "doubles" scores in HRC will work too. He's left things so unclear.

Having 5 maps per character gives numerous (5 times the number of characters) possibilities. Each map will undoubtedly be different for each character, due to seperate weights, attacks, jumping abilities etc.

It's probably unclear on purpose. :/

I'm sure there'll be trophies/characters/stages/modes etc. earned by doing hard/very hard/intense with certain characters or maybe do every difficultly with every character etc. etc.

I can imagine getting, like, a character's Smash trophy for beating a/the intense course for that character.

****, the potential unlockables and collectables and over-all sheer amount of content has me excited. :1

I wish I knew another language to try to clarify what he's trying to say here. I mean it could really go either way in english. "This time, there are 5 maps, where there used to be one for each of your characters" or "This time there are 5 distinct maps, instead of one for each character" I mean, it would go without saying that if there were only 5 maps, they would be disctinct. Leave it to Sakurai to complicate what should be a mundane update.

In German there is the same problem ... it sounds not exactly, what it could be.
But only 5 Taget Test Stages? The Idear behind Target Test is to use the abilitys of the charas right, this only works on stages extra designt for the charas.

64 = 12 target test maps.
Melee = 25 target test maps.
Brawl = 5 target test maps.
Melee = 25 maps
Brawl = 25 maps (5x5)

I reckon each difficulty will have a significantly different layout in terms of target positioning, making them unique. I also reckon there will be the same difficulty settings as subspace (Five).

Five Target Test stages per fighter may be overdoing it, but it does give players a chance to challenge themselves.

What is more disturbing to me is the picture with metaknight...

You can't die!
True, I overlooked that. That's dissapointing. I guess no more deaths trying to get that last target.

Imagine the game has 40 characters.... if there are only 5 maps total we would have 40*5 = 200 records to waste our time on =)

There will be possibilities for death...note the color of the targets: GREEN...Its the normal target test....AKA the 2nd lowest difficulty you can have. Although i thin that normal sahould be harder htan this...idk....the other difficulties wil probably have open bottoms

actually i think it's five per character because metaknight is doing a green target test and donkey kong is doing the same green target test only on a diffrent map so i think it's five per charecter and each character has 5 difficulty with each a other map and a other color of targets atlthoug it could be wrong i highly suspect im right :p
(or maybe the color of the green isn't exactly right i can't see it very well messed up PC im writing at :p)

^^ Donkey Kong is playing on a stage with blue targets.

"This time, there are five different maps of varying difficulty"
That's five distinct maps, each with 5 difficulty settings. In all, 25 different variations to play.

"Five different maps of varying difficulty"

Five maps. And within those five, the difficulty varies. it doesn't saying "Five maps, each with it's own varying difficulty setting".

The five maps vary in difficulty.
