But that's a formula worth breaking. Nintendo's doing so with SS.

You know the more I look at it, Zelda started out as a semi-sandbox series, devolved (or focused) into a linear adventure-action-puzzle series, and with SS may evolve further towards sandbox.
Well, I do love the story lines but I also love the non-liner dungeon play so maybe something like OoT or Alttp (Story line yet does not have to solve the dungeons in order.) If that is Ok with you?

I'm 98% sure it's just a concept.

I don't think we have any game designers here.
Well, if I remember correctly phantom7 is working on a fan made game called Super smash bros. Crusade (great demo by the way hats off to him.) maybe he could help work on this, if he finish Super Smash bros. Crusade. He could help, of course only if he would like to, but we could ask him.

We could........

Ok, so I'm just coming up with this right now.....

This doesn't take place in Hyrule, this could take place in a foreign land with some sort of relation to Hyrule. Tierra de Reyes (Land of Kings) could be the name. This focuses on a civil war (not explicitly, but they are on the verge of war) between all the lands. The Jungle, The Desert, The Forest, The Mountains, The Ocean, The Frozen Tundra, and The Castle, all are at odds over who is to blame for the sudden recurrance of the sinister Dragon Smogh (Yes, I know, not very creative).

I also had a thought for the boss of the Jungle. You walk into a large rectangular room, and the 3 headed Lion appears. It's attacks are just a slash, bite, tail slap, and if it roars you go flying into the wall. The way to kill it would be in each corner of the room there is a lit torch. You have to light your stick and hit the lions tail. Do this say 5 times and the boss is defeated.

Or the main bad guy could be an religious organization propagating the turmoil fueling the civil war. Rather than one person but I do vote for a dragon as the High priest of said organization.

Edit: Maybe as a non-main stream religious organization the could have there goal as "for over throwing the Other gods" of course you all know what I mean by that.

How about a true RPG? Where you can do anything and the way you go about helping the world (or not helping) is to find out just as any of the NPCs would. By word of mouth or as an eye witness. Question people about what the deal and act as a normal person as you gradually learn of your place as the Hero of Hyrule.

Going off of the "dungeons are gradual", how about some true dungeon crawling? Indiana Jones style exploration perhaps?

And as for the "choose your own Link" style, this could also explain the existence of Fierce Deity Link. The path you choose and the power you attain wouldn't be set in stone. Perhaps some of the items and quests come with a price? Losing your humanity slowly as you fight for power or knowledge?

Anyway this is just me gushing over what I've always wanted from a Zelda game. (grew up playing Daggerfall)

+exorbitant amounts of rep

I kind of forgot about this project, but perhaps now's the time to resume work on it. A Zelda RPG could actually work, if done in real-time rather than turn-based. Look at the gameplay in The Last Story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDJ5eMkHkj4

Take this type of gameplay and add the classic Zelda puzzle elements and you have a team-based Zelda game. Imagine being able to open an inventory menu and equip different puzzle-solving items to your party members. Say you can only equip items to your teammates if they are in a certain radius or proximity to Link (or whatever protagonist you'd play as). You have three party members, one hookshot and one grappling hook, yet all three members need to climb up this ledge. At the top of the ledge is a crate that you can hookshot to, so you (Link) zip your way up there, but then there's the question of how to get your other two members up on the ledge also. Because you are not standing near them, you cannot equip the hookshot to them also, so you must use the grappling hook to catch and pull them up to the ledge. This is a very simple example of how limited equipment and multiple party members could equate to some really complex puzzle solving. We've seen instances (in WW and ST particularly) where you actually travel with another character and must use them to solve puzzles, like putting one on a switch while you move through a doorway. Take that concept, blow it up exponentially and add similar combat like The Last Story portrays and BAM you have an awesome new Zelda experience.

I found this neat website on the elements (From various cultures) (click here) I know we have already stated that the elements are over used and I think we can agree on that but I thought the website was nice.

On a completely different topic Could we build a dungeon of the seven deadly sins? I have an Idea on how to do a gluttony dungeon but what about an anger dungeon?

Absolutely not. That brings in direct religious connotations and that just won't work. Remember the Islamic debacle over the Crescent symbol of the Gerudo and the Fire Temple music in OoT? Yeah, no.

I guess you are right. :(

Also a dungeon (I use that word lightly) idea Have not come up with a name though.

Dungeon descriptions

A huge tunneling net work of dark caves With huge vast under ground swamps on the ceiling, In the dungeon it is always raining and it is raining upwards from the ground. On the ground there are some pools of metallic liquid hydrogen. here and there and the occasional toxic cloud from groups of mushrooms.

Just an Idea.

Sounds like a Sonic level. Not that that's a bad thing, of course ;)

Here's an idea that popped into my head a few days ago.

Thousands of years ago, a boy named Link went exploring through the forest. When he discovers the remains of walls with strange imagery carved in and a pedestal with a sword, his curiosity is peaked. Hours later, he shows this place to his closest friend, Ivo. Ivo then notices the sword, and the two kids are filled with excitement at the thought of pulling it out. Link, an aspiring swordsmen, is especially excited, knowing of the legends of swordsmen which he knows from old bedtime stories his mother once told. Link assumes the position, and pulls the sword out. Suddenly, a light shines out of the pedestal, and soon the carvings on the wall also begin to glow. The two children were never seen again...

Thousands of years later, Link awakens on a shore. He wanders until he is found by an elderly farmer, who gladly takes him in, due to his and his wife's inability to have a child of their own (THAT'S NOT IMPORTANT THOUGH, IS IT!). On the first night at his new home, he has a strange dream. He hears a voice, and through the ensuing conversation, learns that the stories of swordsmen have been long forgotten, for thousands of years have passed since he pulled the sword. He then learns that his friend, Ivo, being a witness, had been taken from her body, and could only manifest herself in the form of a fairy, which was much less of a spiritual burden to be. He learns that the world is in trouble, and that he must visit the Shrine of Heroes, which was abandoned 1000 years ago, to call for the help of the heroes of his bedtime stories. The next morning, they set off.

Throughout the game, Link would take on the many stereotypes of Links...
-Green Tunic, which in this game, gives our scrawny hero the strength to uproot bushes, lift vases, and push blocks
-Cap, which raises durability and speed
-Shield
-Sword, drained of all its power due to holding Link and Ivo for so long, must be restored by the Elemental Crystals, which Link must collect. The sword must have all its power to open the Shrine.
... And many other items every Link should have. Little does Link realize that through his journey to seek out the legends whom he admired, Link himself would become one.

Style: TLink, but much more serious then the others. Possibly brown hair for this Link?
Timeline placement: I'll let you debate, I left a lot of loose ends here ;)

Come on, guys. We can't stop now, we've got some good ideas here!
Let's make some progress.

I think that half of the overworld should be sea like in Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass, but the graphics should be realistic.
