Frostwraith
The Demon King
Some more loose thoughts about Smash DLC... Longer than I expected, so I put them inside a spoiler tag.
My problem with characters being cut doesn't come from the fact other characters are in instead, but the fact they aren't along with them.
Yeah, I could get back to Brawl to play as Snake and Wolf, which honestly is fine and all, but what if I wanted to have Wolf vs. Mewtwo, Snake vs. Bayonetta or Ice Climbers vs. Rosalina? What about a 3v3 fire vs. water match with Roy, Captain Falcon and Charizard in one side and Squirtle, Greninja and Corrin on the other?
It's almost frustrating, though I'm well aware of development constraints and all that. Still, I'm happy that Mewtwo, Roy and Lucas were given a second chance through DLC. After all, only 7 veteran characters (6 if you don't count Young Link, since Toon Link fulfills a nearly identical role from Brawl onward) were excluded.
Considering they did want to bring back as many veterans as possible and even added 21 newcomers on top of that, I'd say it is an impressive feat.
Also, about Bayonetta, I've seen complaints about her not being iconic to the degree of the other guests which is true, but honestly, she fits Smash Bros. quite well on the grounds she's the only third party character in Smash which the series she comes from has had all of its games on Nintendo systems, given how Bayonetta 1 had a Wii U remastering along with the Wii U exclusive Bayonetta 2.
Of course, it bears mentioning that the only reason Bayonetta 2 exists is because Nintendo was the only publisher willing to fund it, publish it and help the game's development and marketing. I feel that's why Sakurai went with the Bayo2 look as the default costume, as it's the one from the Nintendo exclusive game.
