Just finished chapter 1 of Bayonaise 2 and I can already tell I love it more than the prequel.

As for how I got my copy of Bayo 1+2, I actually bought the retail version the day it was released. I was just on a hiatus plus my backlog.

Snake in Smash is already an amalgamation of Solid and BB (design wise) and they both have the same VA (if we ignore MGSV), it'd be pretty pointless.

Also, I second the idea of putting OoT/SS incarnation alts for the Main Triforce guys (not sure what Sheik could get for SS, maybe Impa's outfit).

If it ever gets another game, I feel like Hyrule Warriors skins would be pretty cool.

It's funny that Ganon had such a well received redesign in that game that people wanted it to be his default skin in ssb4 (Which as cool as that would be, it would be off putting to see the other Zelda characters not get one).

As you know, Wolf was the last character added to Brawl's roster and was only made possible due to borrowing assets from other characters, mainly Fox, to which all of his special moves and Final Smash are directly based on. In addition, leftover data suggests he was going to be even more similar to Fox, with him having unused animations that are identical to Fox's.

As you may know as well, Fox has a "Wolf Flash" special move variation for the Fox Illusion special, acting similarly, if not identically, to how Wolf's side special move of the same name worked in Brawl.

My theory: Wolf was meant to return for Smash 3DS/Wii U at some point in development but had to be scrapped for reasons unknown. Likely, he was a low priority character similar to his status in Brawl, except he wasn't that lucky this time around.

Some work had already been put into them and they did use the programming for Wolf Flash in the final version of the game, albeit as a special move for Fox. The name is identical, still named after Wolf himself. They could have renamed it as "Fox Flash" or something similar, after all.

Lylat Cruise's conversations feature a rather low-res model of Wolf, using his Assault design instead of his Smash Bros. Brawl design. This puts him in-line with the other non-playable characters: only Fox and Falco use their Smash designs since they're the only Star Fox characters playable in the game. It's possible that this model was only put into the game and rushed after they had decided to exclude Wolf from the roster and wanted to keep things consistent to: 1. avoid direct references to Wolf being possibly playable at a point, 2. have Wolf's design match his only appearance in this game as a trophy with the Assault design.

I think those are the two factors that point towards Wolf being worked on at some point in development. Okay, so what about Lucas?

Remember that rumor that stated the Smash team decided to pick Ness or Lucas, though not both? I think they did that at an earlier stage of development, having in mind to have their specials return for the other character, i.e. Ness would have Lucas's versions of the special moves. Even so Ness's PK Freeze doesn't quite work like Lucas's and the other Lucas-inspired specials aren't exactly the same either, as they all have their own quirks that set them apart from Lucas's special moves.

This is the opposite of Fox, which has a blatant reference to Wolf in Wolf Flash and the moves works exactly the same as it did in Brawl.

Assuming the rumor is true, Lucas wasn't worked on for the base game. They did choose between Ness and Lucas upon noting that their series had shown no signs of continuation. This is unlike Star Fox that had a remake on the 3DS and Nintendo was possibly gauging interest on continuing the Star Fox series (as shown by Miyamoto working on SF Zero right now). Sakurai also considered making a Star Fox game before deciding to use the Kid Icarus franchise instead.

In this perspective, it makes sense to give priority to Wolf over Lucas.

So, why didn't Wolf return, then? I think you can figure out the answer: Wolf was content meant for the base game and Sakurai didn't want to rip players off by having to pay for content that was meant for such.

With DLC focusing on new and unique characters besides the very popular Mewtwo and designated Melee and Brawl vets Roy and Lucas, Sakurai likely didn't want to work on Wolf, as the team had been reduced in amount of staff working on the game and those new characters would require full attention and dedication from the development team.

Basically, DLC was always meant to be content not meant for the base game. Extra content by the very definition of the term.

Another important aspect: Sakurai mentioned how ballot submissions had characters found in previous Smash installments, meaning they did have a shot at being ballot picks. Of course, Wolf is among them. I think the ballot was Wolf's definite shot at being playable as DLC. People took him as granted after Lucas's reveal and ended up not voting on him as much as they should have.

In other words, Wolf was possibly meant to be in the base game, but circumstances got in the way. The fact Sakurai doesn't like the idea of working on content meant for the base game post-release likely got in the way too, as did the fact that he wanted to focus on more unique and complex characters for DLC that wouldn't have been realizable during development of the base game.

Overall, Star Fox has more content than Brawl with more trophies, more music and a new stage along with the two found in Brawl. The Star Wolf theme did get a new remix as well, found on both versions of the game. The only major Star Fox content removed is Wolf, as all other gameplay-related Star Fox content introduced in Brawl returned, including the Smart Bomb item and the Andross Assist Trophy.

Sakurai knows the importance of the Star Fox series to Nintendo and acknowledges its unique aspects, having every Star Fox stage since Melee feature conversation Easter Eggs. Orbital Gate Assault simulates the original Assault stage, with the conversations matching the events going on the screen, resembling an actual Star Fox game.

Lastly, it bears mentioning that this is all speculation and theorizing. I wanted Wolf to return, but I accept that things just didn't work out in his favor this time around, unlike Brawl. That's how game development is and cuts sometimes need to be done. Bowser Jr. was almost cut, after all.

Man, I don't know I would've done without you. I was thinking the custom move and the conversations on the lylat cruise stage could've meant that he can't be as DLC as well. That Wolf model is very poor when compared to Krystal, Slippy, etc. Unfortunately, some people and I thought it was the opposite and thought he may have been coming but because of your research that people miss on such as (the custom moves that Ness has isn't the same as Lucas) it makes more sense.

I was a bit confused if Star Fox was a low priority franchise or not due to the most recent one being a remix and not having any major game since 2006, but I didn't realize it had more content than it was in Brawl even though Wolf is not in. Still, it makes sense why he isn't in due to his priority in brawl. Not to mention that Sakurai wanted new content as DLC instead of cut content which is why we got characters such as Ryu and Cloud.

This could also explain why Squritle, Ivysaur, the chorus kids and the Ice Climbers didn't get in as DLC. I don't really count Mewtwo because not everyone played melee and wasn't in Brawl and Roy as well and getting an overhaul. The only one that could be cut content is Lucas but he probably was only considered for the base roster. If he was in development for the base game, I'm pretty sure that he wouldn't been DLC then.

As for Wolf, I can now see him as being part of the main game but was cut later probably because of time constraints or something. Perhaps, they were trying to fix his animations or something. I don't know. I miss Wolf, but having a possible understanding why he may not have been included makes me feel better. Instead of complaining about it, I tried recreating him as a swordfigther because since claws and sword slashes are similar and I use him whenever I feel like it.

There are two things I think you should've pointed out. One, you forgot to mention that he had his own trophy box. Two the fox/wolf palette swap might've been added later and if that was the case since there was no Ness/Lucas palette swap. Might not mean anything though, but just pointing some stuff out. I wonder that if Wolf was in the game, would there have been an Easter Egg on the orbital gate stage whenever he's not there just like Fox/Falco? Overall, this help me understand the whole Wolf situation and you did not waste your time typing this.

If he isn't, then we might just stick with them again once more. Ganon is why I think they kept the Twilight Princess designs in the first place (I guess also Shiek) considering how weird the two would stand out from Link and Zelda. Ganondorf appearing in Zelda Wii U seems likely anyway, so I can't wait to see what he looks like there. His Twilight Princess design is my favorite by far, but I definitely want to see what they can do with an updated Ganondorf.

Honestly, this is a huge game and deserves a huge amount of points to be addresed.
I'm gonna do 30. 10 based on the design points such as the world, the music, and the online functions. 10 based on story and characters. 10 on core gameplay. For sake of not taking up TOO much space, each point will be in separate spoiler things so you can read as you feel fit.

SPOILERS FOR XENOBLADE CHRONICLES ORIGINAL AND X ABOUND. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Design

1. The Installs

I put in ALL of the installs. Somewhat frequently, I still had to deal with 5~10 seconds just to fast travel. It's a bit glaring for the raw amount of the WiiU's memor you take for doing it all. I'd HATE to see what this would be like without spending an entire night to install it.

2. World - Mira

The good thing is that the game gives you better jumping ability than the original and gives the world plenty of verticality for you to get a great natural feeling of exploring it. That said, that wears out by the time you're at the 3rd or 4th of the 5 continents and becomes an issue of not being able to get any sense OF verticality from your in-game mini maps and such to know where the game is taking you in a 3D space. And it's legitimately too big for its own good, ESPECIALLY when traveling on foot.

3. World - New Los Angeles

Another case of "too big for its own good." The size of this city is about as much as the High Entia home town with Colony 9 and 6 tacked onto it! The raw scope of it and the fact that the game itself splits itself up into 5 major segments just kills incentive to travel outside of the Industrial District in any non-needed case and really kills the sense of community you got in the towns in the original, and a lot of the piecemeal way that you experienced the full cast of npcs allowed you to get invested into their sub plots and missions. Poor. Poor. Choice.

4. FrontierNav

It's... one of the bigger functions of the game. From a story point, great. A physical way to get a sense of how much the BLADE forces have scoured Mira for wreckage of the White Whale. From a gameplay point, I shouldn't be arbituarily unable to place a probe because of my rank in a skill and NO Data Probe was, is, or ever will be placed in by previous BLADE troops. The money you get from it is minimal and frustrating when you have to wait for it to mine minerals for a quest.

5. Music

Ambiently? Good. Just as solid as the original. Combat songs don't stick out as well. Only real iconic song to me is the one that actually has lyrics sung and is played like 3 times in plot. BUT THE NEW LA SONG IS SO GRATING I EVENTUALLY STARTED MUTING IF I WENT BACK TO BASE.

6. BLADE & What it means

BLADE is a great way to get you into action fast as a narrative drive. Be part of a militia/army/government agency for the sake of helping society in just about every way; split into specialized divisions. Except the only difference in division is what gives you the best "job exp." and that just speeds up your ability to level your skills to harvest things in the wild or PLACE DATA PROBES WHICH DOUBLE AS MOST OF YOUR WARP POINTS.

7. Online - Missions

You have a variety of missions you can do online. Recruiting other players' Cross copy or just using your actual characters. Rewards.... pretty minimal. And most you can only do once. Even MMO dailies do you better.

8. Online - Characters

Sure, you can recruit the avatars of other players. BUT WHEN THE GAME NEEDS YOU TO USE SPECIFIC PARTIES FOR MOST STORY MISSIONS, YOUR EXP AND AFFINITY GAIN NEEDS TO BE GOING TO THEM AND MAKING THE POINT LARGELY MOOT.

9. Online - Reward Tickets

By doing various tasks that periodically come up on the "Squad Mission" part of your hud, you get reward tickets... which basically exist for you to get around having to look up WHAT to go grind to get specific enemy drops for quests.

10. GLITCHINESS

The amount of quests that I've seen people get stuck at because of the game just not running things properly, this far past the JAPANESE release is... upsetting to say the least.

Story & Characters

1. Cross

You've probably seen me say this before. Cross is a poor protagonist. Because s/he will do just about nothing to drive the plot outside of their own discovery of things that the rest of the cast has been aware of the entire time. The fact that just about anything you add into any scene of story is given by a vague list of 2 or 3 options which are only relevant for the next line of dialogue or two is just proof that "you" are so vestigial to the story it makes the point of giving the player an avatar pointless and it should've taken the old Xenoblade route with Elma replacing Shulk as "protagonist you aren't exactly required to have in the party."

2. Story - Plot

The story works fine... UP TO THE CLIMAX. It starts with the premise that you get brought out of a stasis pod without your memory and find a purpose in joining BLADE to help society recover from a crash landing on an alien planet after having to escape Earth blowing up in the crossfire of two alien species fighting. The holy grail is The Lifehold, some core and database of the ship. A functional basis. By the end of chapter 5, you find out that "you" are actually a robotic body used remotely from your body held in PROPER stasis on the lifehold. This actually explains your superhuman jumps, lack of fall damage, ability to breathe Miran air, AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND ANY AND ALL ALIENS. This is the only twist or real change until Chapter 11, when one of your party members is a dirty traitor. Not a Dickson kind of twist where it plays up to a real villain and has had little hints throughout the game. This is like Mumkhar who does it more or less for ****s and giggles. Because humanity could only save so many people and prioritized those with the most skills to offer and this didn't include Lao's wife and child. But waits the majority of the game to do so instead of not joining BLADE in the first place or something more reasonable.
THEN CHAPTER 12 AND EVERYTHING DROPS TO HELL. Before the boss fight the Ganglion leader says that he deliberately attacked earth to stop the Humans because they're the second coming of a species that enslaved the Ganglion.... which is already confusing, will be contradicted because the Mimeosomes (robots) are the biggest tie as the proof of them being descendants of the race, and doesn't explain the other race the Ganglion were fighting. Moving past THAT, across the final boss phases it is revealed that the lifehold actually holds a digitalized version of a ton of Flora, Fauna, and down-right esscences of the humans that were "uploaded." A... fairly unneeded twist, but workable. But after the fights and before the credits... Elma is unveiled as an alien that was the source of the technology behind the arcs humanity used, and the only one to have an actual body held in the lifehold. So... was SHE the second coming of the race that imprisoned the Ganglion then, because she is the source of the technology. Post-Credits... is a damn stupid cliffhanger. The main database of the Lifehold is entirely flooded and thus the entirety of earth and humanity should've been lost but SOMEHOW the Mims are running... and supposedly the planet is the reason why. W-H-A-T?! Shulk being an avatar of Zanza who is a semi-literal god of the world because he and Meyneth were the leading scientists in a test that created the world using SCIENCE and became part of it is easy to swallow in comparison.

3. Story - Side Quests

Missions are more spaced out and harder to get invested in than the original in my opinion. The fact that your main way of gaining missions is from a small terminal only makes this worse. The absolute worst factor of things is affinity missions because they are tasks to getting character development and knowing about your allies and in rare cases enemies. The frustrating artificial difficulty to many of these only lays things on worse.

4. Story - Heart to Heart

Party members only get affinity with Cross. Which means heart to hearts are trimmed down to five small scenes for each character. And they're robbed of their cinematic edge and being seen OUTSIDE of New LA which robs the usage of the beautiful scenery for anything of that sort, only further dropping the quality of one of the best writing set ups for the previous game.

5. Alien Races

Nopon. Ganglion. Two different kinds of prones. Cat People. Cricket People. Manon. Whatever the hell Celica is. Whatever the hell L is. Whatever the hell Rock is. Whatever the hell Elma actually is. The fact that there are 4 main characters who all have races that have no names or explanations should say enough on how poorly this was put together in comparison to the four races in Xenoblade which all had a very deliberate usage and place.

6. Characters - Allies
I'm going to keep it brief. You need Elma and Lin for every story mission. There are over a dozen characters to place into that 4th slot. That's the first of a long list of problems with all the party members you gain access to across the game.

7. Characters - Enemies

The biggest issue is that the Big Bad is just a Big Bad with nothing deeper to his character and I can't even tell you his name but that of his mech. Other than that? Enemies appear for one or two chapters and then are literally killed off in just about every case. They're comic book villains at this point. Metal Face had a prescence and a reason. Silver Face went through her entire long line of changes. Jade Face had an entire build up to him and a heroic sacrifice after. Gold Face was doing wrong in vengence of what his people went through after getting largely purged by Zanza and were trying to find a way to prepare to combat his revival. ZANZA IS GOD WHO WANTS TO RESET BECAUSE HIS PLAYTHINGS ARE GROWING TO THE POINT THAT THEY ARE A THREAT TO HIM. Even Xord unearthed his backstory if you dug around Colony 9. Except for Lao and the discount Liono and Cheetarah, every villain hates humans because screw humanity with NOTHING to give themselves more.

8. Party Member Relation

As I said, there is no affinity to anyone to someone other than cross of the party is basically nullified. All you have at hand is Elma and Lin because you are forced to use them near-constantly and then Gwin and Erica because they were/are part of their own team. Which gives you a felt lack of a reason to spice up your party selection and unearth more relations.

9. The sense of a party

Because of the issues given... the characters fall a lot more flat. Less room to develop. Because of this, and story missions always requiring Lin and Elma, you have effectively no reason to remove them from your party EXCEPT for specific affinity missions. In your party of 4, the structuring of the story missions gives you one slot to truly exchange people... so choose who mechanically fits you best and don't focus on anything else because there will BE very little else.

10. Where the story takes you

This... is one issue I had from about chapter 3 or 4 until around chapter 10 or 11. The game takes you into/through areas with NUMEROUS hostile enemies that are 10+ levels above that of the BOSS for the chapter you are going to face. This is the INTENDED path. It is the path that the "Follow Orb" function that's basically a path guide will take you. Chapter with a Lv19 boss? Have some Lv33 crocs in a river, 35 giant apes roaming around, and 25+ HIDDEN PLANT CREATURES. The absolutely ABSURD aggro range in this game in comparison to the original

Gameplay

1. Level Cap

It's 60. For no explained reason they went from semi-standard JRPG 99 to... 60. With enemies that still scale well into the 80s that you'll come across naturally, not even Super Bosses like the 120 Avalanche Ambassy in Xenoblade Chronicles. I just can't see WHY it's this low and honestly the game doesn't feel scaled to it.

2. Classes - The Tree

What would an avatar be without customizability through a class system? You get 16 jobs in total, in a branch of the basic class which branches into 3 classes. Those 3 classes have two upgraded forms of them and then two "alternative" versions of their kind of playstyle. The issue is... Whatever you choose to be basically makes you a better version than any character of that job because you will play it for what you need and want for any given situation. And because you have to be able to function as any single class, none of them can really do that much to stand out as an individual class.

3. Classes - Power Scaling

There's a big issue of the classes. Either you go down an entire class line which is kinda the natural way of playing which causes you to drop in your power by nature of having very limited skills every time you go to a new class OR switch across jobs as you climb the ladder and pay for the new weapons on a far more frequent pace when money is a VERY tight resource for the purchases you want to make.

4. Classes - Arts

While the game LETS you mix and match weapons of any class line you've mastered. But because any arts FOR a class are tied together in function in most cases so it is far more niche that your powers are going to be a good idea to cross together. Along with the fact that you get just about NO good ability to heal when you had Riki's Invigorate, Melia's HoT with the water aura, and Sharla BEING A DEDICATED HEALER.

5. Skills

Since characters don't have any affinity with eachother, all skills are unlocked by leveling up in classes. Of course, this means that you will have far, far more capability than your party members ever will have the hope to.

6. Skells

Spoiler

Imbalance at the finest here. Your fastest speed, your only means to get sizable height, the vast amount of your combat power, and THE VAST AMOUNT OF FUNDS YOU WILL POUR INTO IT BECAUSE IT WILL ALWAYS FAR OUTCLASS YOUR GROUND POWER. WHICH MAKES THE SEGMENTS THAT FORCE YOU ON FOOT, INCLUDING THE VERY LAST PHASE OF THE FINAL BOSS CRIPPLING FOR YOU.

7. Augments
Not even enough to constitute a spoiler. You have to do an annoying quest to be able to start crafting them and I went through the entire story without starting to craft them because the miranium costs were out-prioritzed by arms producers. Supposedly needed for a lot of the capability in the postgame.

8. Elemental Variance
Like Augments, largely useless in the spread of 6 elements that your gear has varying resistance... because Skells. Except when you can't use skells and can't know it beforehand. So screw you, player.

9. Morale & TP

From the system in Xenoblade Chronicles, ESPECIALLY the benefit of Chain Attack being one of the best parts of the combat in the original to just be replaced by Overdrive. But moving on, having to use an entire 3000 tp, your entire bar without boosting, to do any revive to your 3 other party members instead of a single chunk of the morale bar and good luck keeping anyone up when the most potent skills require 1000 TP to use... which is imbalanced to the power of Overdrive. Which means you really just should never use an entire ranking of skills.

10. Overall Difficulty

It's shoddily balanced in comparison tot he original but... still functional The fact that there are fights which the path of "throw yourself at the wall until the game lets you drop it 5 levels" is the path that which is damn-near needed proves that the boss was not properly designed in the first place. Lao's mech in Chapter 11's gimmick alone just makes me cringe at the lack of tuning back the kind of things tossed at the player.

Summary: It's still a good game. A 6.5/10 if I needed to give it a rating. But MOST of the changes from the original fall flat. I just found it largely to be a dissatisfying sequel that had a lot of tools for something that blew one of my Top 10 JRPGs of All Time out of the water. Hopefully "X-2" will be able to right wrongs and be a Toy Story 3 situation. A 9.5 game to a 6.5.
