So I finally got around to listening to the gameexplain smash prediction video and I feel people on this thread who complained about it didn't actually watch the video or didn't watch enough of it. While one or two of them did believe it was a traditional vote, it was brought up that it could be an informal vote that was about gauging interest and they mused on the possibility of Cloud being an early choice due to early results being in his favor. This occurred during the first nine minutes of the video, literally within the first third of the video.

I don't see why people get fussy over this.

It's a ballot. People vote on it. Generally, the most popular choices win. Yes they could have winners from different phases and Cloud could be an early winner, and they could just pick out an interesting character based on the descriptions people have with their votes. But if they only do one of these things? It's gonna be the most popular choices, because the DLC needs to sell.

Actually, that actually is cannon. Anything in the Clone Wars television show is considered cannon and separate from the expanded universe.

So yes, Rex and Asoka are legit characters.

You know, with all those books, comics and games? At least it's easier now to follow what's canon: the films, The Clone Wars and Rebels and that's it(there are probably some books and comics here and there but who cares?)


The Clone Wars is the worst offender of Doomed by Canon
You watch all those episodes with the Jedis being giving characterization and even the ****ing clones get it and it's great and all, Grievous gets more screentime, Dooku is a ****, Maul reappears, Anakin isn't some edgy emo *****, Ahsoka exists etc. But all you have to do to ruin everything is to remember the films exist and you go "oh, they all die anyways"
At least Ahsoka survives Order 66 and appears in Rebels but we all know what's gonna happen at the end

lol, I told @TheAnvil earlier that I thought Chrom was one of the few current notable Nintendo characters not on their list, despite the situation he's in.

Honestly I'm in the same boat. Quite frankly the only thing he's missing is an amiibo.

Considering just how often he was billed as the main character of the three Awakening protagonists (the mainest main?), which is also the Fire Emblem game that's gotten the most steady and apparent international marketing. Add to that all of his appearances in crossovers with Lucina (appearing in Monster Hunter as costumes, appearing in Project X Zone 2 as a duo, etc), or without her (#FE), and also factoring in the fact that he's one of the few Fire Emblem characters with physical merchandise (mainly his Nendoroid to go alongside Lucina's figma), and he's almost Nintendo's go-to Fire Emblem guy which is, again, saying something for a character that lacks an amiibo (the reason the other non-Lucina Smash FE characters make guest appearances in the first place).

That's just the way I see it anyway. At the very least I'd say he's honorable mention.

I think Captain Toad deserves it more, but I voted Paper Mario because I love TTYD and "similar characters" (that doesn't mean clones).

I know Fire Emblem is a relatively small series, but he's been in a significant number of crossovers for a Nintendo character that hasn't made it into Smash. I'd agree with honorable mention, as well. I imagine he will fade a bit over time though. I'm interested to see the reactions to Fates and its characters when it comes out outside of Japan.

I mostly agree. Getting uppity about the wording at this point seems like a wasted effort.

That said, considering that they're probably not going to look at popularity alone I have two points to make:

1. Being the most popular choice doesnt mean they'll get in. The character(s) still need to be practical to make, unique enough to be interesting, and, in the case of third parties, negotiable. They also need to follow whatever other rules Sakurai or Nintendo has in mind.
2. This is smash. Aside from mii costumes, the DLC is almost guaranteed to sell enough to make a reasonable profit. Popular character the majority of gamers (i.e. non-tournament and casual players) is best, but there's a a huge range of reasonable choices.

I see Captain Toad is popular. Honestly I want both, but I don't know who I want more. Both have been around awhile and both can get very unique movesets.

If I were to guess, they would choose Toad for this game since we have two marios and then potentially add Paper Mario next game. I hope to see one of these two, if not both in Smash one day.

He goes way beyond the whole Grievous killing the Nightsisters thing.
Maul goes on to become the leader of Mandalore for a bit and had a comic dedicated to what happened to him after Sidious got involved. He's still alive somewhere and the best closure would be Obi-Wan killing him.
Anthology films are going to be things like the Han Solo... uh... Solo film, Rogue One and other side things like that.

Kanan and Ezra I doubt will survive the entire series or be in a significant enough position in the Rebellion.
Knowing and using the Dark Side of the Force =/= Sith
The Grand Inquisitor basically pledged his allegiance to the Empire and Vader decided to train him in the ways of the Dark Side so he could hunt Jedi and Force-Sensitive children.
