Too bad it's dead in the water.

Shame too, I loved the games. My wish is for a reboot that makes fun of modern television and movies, but that ain't gonna happen.
Square Enix actually made a comment earlier this year that they would like to use older Eidos IPs, and Gex was brought up by name.

I was shocked how well that franchise sold... 15 million in sales over 3 games.

That's more than franchises like Bomberman and Ninja Gaiden.

Minecraft is complicated since it was actually on non-Microsoft platforms before they bought the franchise.

I don't REALLY think it says much about them being OK with their IPs being on different platforms. They let Minecraft on Nintendo since it's already on other non-Microsoft platforms. It's a special exception, they were making money from a game on a Sony platform, so might as well let it go on Wii U too for even more extra revenue, without compromising their normal game plan.
I mean that sounds good and all, but it still conflicts with typical business practice once a competitor acquires an IP.

If you're going to spend 2.5 billion on basically a single IP, normally it behooves you not to share that IP with your competitors.

So it's nothing to shrug at.

So whats this about Banjo skins being in the Wii U version of Minecraft?! Also Doctor Who and Skyrim skins as well?!?

Is Chief also in the Wii U version? I'm curious because this could point towards interesting things for Banjo.

Good point, but all of these are also portable systems, which Microsoft doesn't have any portable systems. It's them putting Minecraft on another home console that isn't theirs that really stands out to me.
Your entire point was that Microsoft hadn't shown it would work with Nintendo before or vice versa. That just proved they did. Portable or not.

I almost forgot. The Windows logo in Mario Maker's files finally has an explanation.

The question is whether or not it means anything more.

It is something to shrug at.

Before Microsoft acquired it, Notch and Mohjang were the main receivers of revenue for all things Minecraft. After the acquisition, replace Notch with Microsoft. Sure, Sony and now Nintendo, make a bit of money off of it just for hosting the game on their servers, but Microsoft still get most of the profits.

They wouldn't have done it without it being on Playstation before the acquisition, since that would have compromised their brand image, but since it was on Playstation anyway, taking it off would have been even worse for their image. But they also just flat out make the most money anyway. It's a win-win for everybody, but Microsoft wins the most.

Also, Nintendo and Microsoft have worked with each other before. Nintendo hold various events at the Microsoft Theatre, including the Smash Invitational and the Nintendo World Championships 2015.

You know, now that I think about it, Opossum Opossum may have a point which may not make this seem like a big deal.

Mainly because Minecraft for Wii U could have been in development before the acquisition happened.

Yes, I know that may sound like a bit of a stretch considering it was completed November of last year, but you may never know...

That's a fair point too. I actually never considered that.

It's likely too. Nintendo had to have sent Mojang Wii U dev kits to make this, and that could have happened before Microsoft bought the studio.

And they also must have spent some decent amount of time on it, considering it is coming out 9 days from now and the architecture of the Wii U from what I hear is completely different from the PS4 and Xbox One.

At the end of the day this port means nothing for anyone.

A port would absolutely not be enough to persuade sakurai for MC or BK to be included/not included.

Maybe minecraft wii u could have been part of a deal but it wouldnt be the reason for Steve joining either.

Holding events in Microsoft Theatre doesn't mean anything, since it's not like Nintendo is in the venue system.

It's like saying that Sony is best buds with Microsoft because every Sony VAIO sold is shipped with a Windows OS.

Companies work together when it makes financial sense to do so.

Indeed, and I have been proven incorrect. My previous post still stands though, it surprises me more that they'd put their franchise on another home console than a portable one.

I know this is a sudden change of subject, but I need to mention it.

This soundtrack in Xenoblade Chronicles X is amazing. And those lyrics are so weird, yet make the battle themes so much better... kinda like Persona 3 and 4 XD :p

TBH I really don't think it means much for Steve.

"Chances" are an arbitrary concept for Smash speculation. There is no real scale for which characters are likely and not likely at this point. Every character inclusion is a deliberate choice, and they are there because Sakurai wanted them in the game, and because the copyright holder was willing to co-operate.

The fact of the matter is, none of us work for these game companies (and if you do then shame on you for obeying NDAs :V), so we really don't know for certain what they are and aren't willing to do. A bunch of you for some reason thought Square and Nintendo weren't on good terms, and if they were, Sony would somehow intervene in terms of letting Cloud into Smash.

But look where we are now.

Same holds true for first party characters. I'm still going to wave around the fact that the speculation community didn't take Rosalina seriously as an addition for their own silly reasons, and instead only considered characters like Bowser Jr and Waluigi for Mario - yet, Rosalina was THE FIRST new character mentioned in the initial presentation Sakurai made for the game and was the first new character revealed post E3 2013 (meaning she was finished enough to show off), and Bowser Jr, while in the game now, was actually almost cut because of time constraints. :V

Granted he comes up with all of the new characters before he develops any, but it goes to show where his priorities really lied. Basically the opposite of the speculation community in this case. ;)

That's exactly my point though.

It makes financial sense for both Microsoft and Nintendo, to have Minecraft on Wii U. It means nothing for Smash.

They have a history of working together when it makes financial sense, and this is just another instance. That's why I mentioned that Microsoft Theatre thing.

When Smash DLC is finished people will keep on hoping for Nintendo to announce something big again, only to be diappointed.

Scan in Some kind of block amiibo, you get that block in your inventory

The one amiibo that somehow wouldn't sell well.
You say that like Toad amiibos fly off of store shelves like crazy.

I blame on the idea that no one will be satisfied with the roster of their favorites aren't in. That's how it is. Well get balance patch updates every 6 months after DLC is finished and we still are gonna discuss about more Smash 4 FLC because it CAN'T end until my character is in the game and then when they aren't, ***** and moan on forums and social media and then months later ask someone in the Smash Wii U modding community to add them in the game.

And once the new game is announced, the cycle will begin anew

Watch the Smash Direct end with them pulling a Marvel and give us their release schedule for years to come. :troll: No one is ever allowed to recover from speculation hysteria. Ever.

Above Banjo? That's just insane.
Chief's actually an icon, more recognisable, the main character of the series that revolutionised shooters on consoles and the series is huge spanning multiple forms of media such as comics, novels, animated shorts and films.
All Banjo's got is better relations to Nintendo and being considered for Melee.

I will admit I'm a huge Halo fan so take it lightly.

Here's what it boils down to really. If you think two rival companies who have never co-operated in the home console space collaborating definitively means nothing as far as future collaboration over a popular IP who has a storied history with both companies with an expressed willingness to collaborate from at least one of the parties, I don't know what to say. Even with the fact that Minecraft is a ***** of an IP with all its ports.

I'm not saying Banjo is like so much likelier now or that he's a guarantee, he's still very much an outside shot, but this certainly is a feather in his cap.

And implying that Minecraft is special because its brand image won't be tarnished by this seems to omit the fact that Banjo's brand among his demographic is still tied much more closely to Nintendo than Microsoft. It certainly wouldn't be hampered with his inclusion in Smash, and Microsoft would still make a hefty profit from it, even regardless of potential promotional ramifications. This just shows the two juggernauts are actually willing to share - when they certainly don't have to.

And prior to Minecraft coming to the Wii U, and prior to Cloud being in Smash, and prior to the ballot, and prior to the tweet, I would've said there'd be no way in hell Banjo will end up in Smash, but with all those things in tow...

It's nothing to shrug at.
