So Minecraft on the Wii U. My thoughts:

1) This should've happened a looooooooonnnnnggggggg time ago. The most popular game among kids these days on the most family-oriented console with a control scheme that basically begs for something like the gamepad? Yeah, long overdue. But better late than never I suppose. Though it's too late for it to actually help the Wii U to any discernable extent.

2) Nintendo better have also locked down Minecraft for the NX. Like, Minecraft at launch or very soon afterwards.

3) I still don't really care about Minecraft, but some tied-in Nintendo content would help appeal to both the only demo the Wii U still has plus those who have been playing Minecraft for a long time already and otherwise wouldn't see the reason in bothering to play it on the Wii U.

4) Seems negotiations with Microsoft are alive and kicking.

Also you gotta get a kick out of the people that thought this announcement was going to be NX news or Metroid or something like that. Hopeful delusion springs eternal.

TheAnvil toke the words right out of mouth earlier. But anyway look at it this way sakurai said he wanted this to be the best character game ever. Iconic character like cloud, ryu,mega man,etc.that's what I feel DLC is kinda focusing on.There is no Nintendo character left besides inklings and Dixie who I feel are missing from this game and I feel both should be saved till next time. DLC should focus on those iconic characters for smash.

I think the only two glaring 1st Party ommisions (aside from the Ice Climbers as they may be impossible) are Dixie and Wolf. Though honestly I don't think Sakurai sees the roster as having any ommisions. Inklings came at a time where they were justifiable to leave off but if we don't get them this time then they're as close to a shoo-in as humanly possible for a hypothetical Smash 5 (or 6 depending on how you view 3DS/Wii U).

I would very much like for Dixie and Wolf to be on, but I'm pretty sure that Sakurai is taking DLC in a different direction.

The real issue with Chief is that he's owned by MS and to a lesser extent not having a game released on a Nintendo console.

I have to disagree on this one. Minecraft on the Wii U shows that Nintendo is willing to work with Microsoft, upping at least Banjo's as well (I have no idea whether or not Master Chief was ever on a Nintendo console). On the topic of what is and isn't Smash-worthy, I doubt that western third party characters that have found immense success in their homeland, but have left little to no presence or impact in Japan (Spyro for example) are really considered Smash-worthy by Sakurai himself. One could argue that a reverse Marth/Roy/Lucas situation is possible, but Sakurai did decide against including Takamaru due to his lack of western exposure prior to his game's 3DS VC port, and first party characters don't have the same high standards as third party characters.

And no, I never believed the Shovel Knight rumor.

Yeah, I specifically put in a search of "€30 to €40" to get those results. Just putting in a generic search result of amiibo gets more generous results.

Also even if it didn't, the takeaway here is Microsoft is willing to collaborate with Nintendo regarding their IPs, not that they're also willing to collaborate with others.

Minecraft is complicated since it was actually on non-Microsoft platforms before they bought the franchise.

I don't REALLY think it says much about them being OK with their IPs being on different platforms. They let Minecraft on Nintendo since it's already on other non-Microsoft platforms. It's a special exception, they were making money from a game on a Sony platform, so might as well let it go on Wii U too for even more extra revenue, without compromising their normal game plan.

I guarantee that if Minecraft wasn't on PlayStation before Microsoft bought it, neither Sony or Nintendo would have it now.
