TBH I don't really care about Minecraft Wii U, mostly because the game isn't really designed for consoles (or me). The prospect that you could use the gamepad for controlling multiple menus is sort of novel.

It would be cool if I had a working gamepad though, on the subject.

Honestly, I think Steve, like it or not, is a gaming icon and he would make sense.
I don't know if it's likely, but it's not stupid.

Minecraft is huge and it's not irrelevant or niche, like some of the characters/franchises the fans want in Smash.

Minecraft was THE indie game and success story... right up until they sold to Microsoft. Now it's Shovel Knight in that role along with the "ignore Shafer's disaster this is what crowdfunding can do" role.

If Steve was in though we'd have that Microsoft character and 7 year olds asking for MAster Chief in Smash 5 with a reason an iota better than "you already got his sister in it."

Actually, I'm just going to testify so I can stay with my Mom. My Dad's pretty.... Uh... Well, let's just say last night he slammed his car into my Mom's on the freeway, with my little brother in it.(Who usually doesn't wear his seatbelt.) So... Yeah, that's my Dad for ya.

And come on guys, I'm pretty metal and brutal, but not THAT kind.

I could see Steve in Smash if only because he seems like a character Sakurai would find interesting. He'd probably have a moveset around manipulating the stage in some way that'll get him banned from tournaments.

I really don't understand why so many people think Minecraft is big news in terms of Nintendo x Microsoft. Minecraft was multiplatform long before Microsoft picked up Mojang. You can get Minecraft on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, PC, iOS, and Andriod too.

The reason Minecraft isn't exclusive to Microsoft systems because they know that would be a huge financial mistake.

Plus this isn't the first time Minecraft officially graced on a Nintendo platform: Steve appears in the 3DS version of Retro City Rampage (the game is also on Wii but I don't know if Minecraft is in that version) plus Minecraft: Story Mode was confirmed for Wii U a couple months ago (but still waiting for release unlike the other platforms).
