TL;DR modern game design really is that bloated and monolithic. I guess the original game came on multiple discs but they were all in the same box.

I think SA, SA2 and Heroes are going through what Final Fantasy 7 and Ocarina of Time went through.

• Majority starts blindly praising it
• Then the Majority starts blindly hating it
• Finally, the majority stops being blind and accepts and appreciates it for what it is, flaws and strengths

It happens a lot with the late 90s to early 2000s games nowadays.

We are still at the majority blindly hating it stage unfortunately.

I keep hearing how the Sonic fanbase is so horrible because they are always defending and fanboying over the bad games. Yet, I see way, way more people hating his games if anything. Heck, I rarely see people give absolute praise to the bad games anymore.

SA2 isn't really overrated anymore. I don't know why people keep saying and thinking that. It really does make me sad how people like to find ways kick the sonic fanbase while it is down.

IDK why but I enjoyed him but hated Eggman/Tails in SA2. To be fully honest, I don't dislike Amy's levels, and Big wasn't as painful as the non-Sonic/Shadow levels in SA2 IMO.

Looking back I still don't think it's aged particularly well like Mario 64/other games from that time, but I can find more to like about it than SA2, albeit that's because I find myself hating everything in that game bar a few early Sonic/Shadow levels.

Judging by how it says it's the "HOT! package", it's probably some kind of limited edition that comes with the fanservice costumes.

In regards to modern game design, it is more complex than it was years ago. Games nowadays are usually very expansive and offer a ton more content than games from around 15~30 years ago. The production costs for games are also much bigger than before.

Indie games are productions more similar to what the bigger companies did in the past. They have smaller teams and lower budget, making simpler games as well.

Because Gamma's game is fast paced. Tails and Eggman are slower than **** and have no mobility whatsoever.
On top of this, they are less fun but have twice as many levels as Gamma.

Sonic Adventure 2 in general, IMO, feels incredibly stiff which is a really bad fit for a game like Sonic. No momentum.

Minecraft Pocket Edition, Minecraft Story Mode, Minecraft 4k.... Not to mention the crazy amount of merchandise. It's one of the top ten most profitable video game franchises of all time. It's a franchise.

It's not Nintendo's fault that PEGI accidentally leaked the announcement.
It's kind of their fault for the false hype behind the announcement, but I also partly blame outlets for saying "Could it be Smash news!?!"
