Quick poll regarding Cloud: http://goo.gl/YppZbc
Were you able to recognize the the Final Fantasy VII tune when you saw/heard the first few seconds of the Cloud Smash reveal trailer live?
I didn't recognize it until the midi-drum roll less than a second before they revealed the FF logo.
On a related note, my favorite reaction video so far is Nairo's, where he and someone else are looking confused while the music's playing and some other guy in the background keeps going "Yo, that's Final Fantasy 7!" and you can tell both of them want to remind him it's a Smash announcement.
Gen 3 handsdown was/is the most hated generation, even before ORAS(which imo atleast fixed the real mess Gen 3 was & is one of the best Pokemon games)
It basically was a reboot of the franchise & it was released at a time when the overal pokemon craze was slowing down. The change was needed for the franchise, because Gen 3 rewote the old IV & EV system, to the one we know now, but it came at the cost that you could not transfer from the older games, which pissed off alot of the fans that started with Gen 1 or Gen 2.
It also took atleast 1 year until you had access to old fanfavourites with Colloseum & the Gen 1 remakes(whats also funny is that the original RS had the berryglitch which could only be fixed if you bought either Colloseum or FRLG, so it could have been intentional )
Completing the National dex was total hell in this generation & stuff like the Johto starters where once holy grails, due they where only available in Coloseum, Emerald(after completing the Hoenn Dex) & XD(beating the 100 Mt battle in a streak)
To make it even more worse, you needed to reset for female starters, because in RS you could only breed more starters if they where female, because Ditto had a 1 year delay with it only being available in FRLG & it also was while once we got access to Emerald.
Oh yeah the Hoenn region, was region where you needed alot of HM's to get trough the game, so thats where the infamous "to much water" argument came from
That is aweful. Really sorry to hear that. Being a big collector nowdays, I have found new respect for awesome Zelda stuff like this, so that is really sucky. Hope you can get a new set someday somehow. *hugs*
Bedoop
I love Takahiro Sakurai, his voice is awesome. He voices the character in my avatar, Misaki Takahashi. XD

Literally every gen after it is a basebreaker at this point
Gen 4 because of questionable design choices
Gen 5 because of the Pokemon designs
And Gen 6 with the focus on multiplayer
Honestly, compared to other incidents where an entire argument spawns from one person saying something questionable, this is relatively tame. In my opinion, at least, it's not something to be ashamed of in this case.
Just a correction of opinion and nothing really heated.
While you shouldn't treat reviews as gospel for either side of the good bad spectrum, it is wise to pay attention to see if multiple reviews share similar opinions or report on the same problems.
I mean, if every single review of the PC port of Arkham Knight agrees that it's a broken and barely functional title, then that's obviously something to keep in mind.
I agree, however sometimes a bad criticism from one reviewer can spread to other reviews and the general opinion of the game, causing it to be more hated than it deserves.
Rotom is best Tom.
Fun fact: All of Rotom's form switches have base stats comparable to the final evolution of a starter.
Mowtom is my favorite too, for its resistances. Fantom and Washtom are also great.
I love Rotom.

Gen 4: Only DP where bashed, Platinum & HGSS are considerd to be one of the best games in the franchise
Gen 5: Gen 5 its more overpraised nowadays then hated to my observation.
Gen 6: Yeah there are complaints currently that this gen focusses to much on multiplayer, but lets wait until Z before we can get a real conclusion out of this gen.
Gen 3 really is still the one, that people are the most split about
I like Rotom's design....but overusage of Washtom makes me dislike him :C
Vanillatom best tom because in DP he had the legendary theme so he was legendary to my childhood.
EDIT: I also consider Gen 5 the best of the series in story-- Also B2W2 had great content to it and the World Champion mode was a nostalgia trip without the trip.

The basebreaker thing only happened on release
No one bashes on Gen 3 anymore, because there is a new gen to bash on
People predicted that haters would stop with all the Gen 5 hate when Gen 6 came out and hate on 6 instead, and look at it now
Gen 3 had actual challenge and the changes went from small cases of good and bad with a lot of bad decisions.
Plus Gen 3 was sort of a reset after Gen 2 considering you couldn't bring over Pokemon from the last game due to limitations and how different the GBC & GBA were.
It's kinda like how fans treat each different 3D Zelda game since WW.
And even the Sonic series. There was a point where SA2 was the pinnacle of the series and SA1 was meh but time came to pass where SA1 was seen as the superior game and SA2 & to an extent Heroes were seen as bad as Shadow and 06
I agree, however sometimes a bad criticism from one reviewer can spread to other reviews and the general opinion of the game, causing it to be more hated than it deserves.
I'd argue that this is more prevalent in games with shady behavior than anything else.
Maybe Colonial Marines would have gotten a little less criticism had it not been discovered that the preview clips of the game shown beforehand were bullshots compared to the actual game, for instance.
I only have general character predictions, I don't think there are "ballot winners".
With that said, past Cloud, I am calling:
- Shovel Knight
- Inklings
- Wolf
I think the first two will be announced and released after the broadcast in December, Wolf will be announced but come out later, similar to how we got Mewtwo.
I think there are "winners" but of course, my definiton of a "ballot winner" is much different than others would define it; if Sakurai chooses [insert character here] as a ballot DLC, I see him/her/it as a "winner" considering the countless suggestions.

Many of the people upset over Play Asia's tweets aren't even SJWs (such a dumb term imo). Play Asia were being plain asshats over nothing. Even to the point of retweeting some pretty awful GGer tweets.
Play Asia are being immature and really unprofessional about this matter.

That's the exact thing I don't really expect to happen.
I don't think there will be "ballot DLC".
The ballot is just a suggestion box, a way to gauge popularity of characters. I don't think Nintendo is conducting it solely to choose characters for this game's DLC, it's probably going to be used for the next Smash and even other Nintendo games.
In regards to DLC, it's just another factor. There's no way to gauge which characters are chosen "because of the ballot", anyways.

Yeah they are just doing it for the attention at this point. The facade of trying to having an actual discussion on the issue has been thrown out the window. It's all about marketing and trying to make a profit.
As for me: I don't care if DoAX3 exists...in fact, it has a right to exist. However...trying to blame it's poor sales on SJW is pretty silly.
Side note, I hate the 0/10 tweet as the girl is asking for money, not signaling "0".

I agree it wasn't professional but this whole mess boosted their Twitter followers a few thousand. Ironic when being unprofessional seems to be a business strategy. Of course Twitter followers don't always mean sales.

Donald Trump is also employing the same strategy as I understand. It's kind of sad that being loud and offensive is a gold marketing approach these days.

"Adding what the fans want" fanservice and "sexual appeal" fanservice are two very differemt situations
Yes, both are pandering to the fanbase but one adds something to the game, while the other is just sexual pandering
Like, what does the game benefit from having the extreme level of fanservice DOA has?
Are you implying that sexual appeal doesn't add to a game like DOAX?
As you said before, it's part of what the game is. How does it not add to the game, then, if the game is heavily based off it?
I mean, in Smash, alternate costumes don't add much to the game either except aesthetic. Cloud's Advent Children costume is literally 100% fanservice. I find it the similar case where it's an aesthetic choice that fits the tone of the game they are going for so can't see how the sex appeal doesn't add to it.
Yes, Smash is a more complicated game then DOAX (I would say Smash has more content), from what I remember of DOAX1. But as people have argued earlier, it's all about context for this stuff. A silly tropical beach rendezvous with DOA characters, the sexy fits the purpose of the game. While it personally isn't for me, I wouldn't say it adds "nothing" when the main appeal of the game is the cheesy titillation. If that's the appeal, then more of that is what will add to it.
Speaking of, the same rage bloggers are now furious at Play Asia for tweeting they'll have the English version for import. How dare a business carry on as normal. It's kind of hilarious.
I've been doing some digging into the whole thing since I was only aware of their statement, and you are right, the salt mines opened up all over the place and it's starting to get hilarious:
#DOAX3 will not be coming to the US due to #SJW nonsense. However, we will have the English Asia version available: https://t.co/u03t7NC3RU

Play-Asia gained at least over 5,000 followers because of their tweets in only a half of day (it started at 7K-9k, and it is now of this post up to 14.4K), and it's been a while since I've seen over 1k retweets/2k likes in less then half a day and it keeps growing. The salt is pouring, Play-Asia is getting even more support and notoriety, and it just keeps getting funnier.
I have long suspected that the SonictheHedgehog PR account is actually an imageboard user, and considering how this account tweets I'm assuming similar things, which explains how it can so sassy so easily.
Developers Huniepot weigh in, which is no surprise, since they've had to deal with the same thing Play Asia have. Neogaf users tries to weigh in with their ever enlightening wisdom:

Amusing stuff, but didn't think more would come out of it. Until I saw this:
Something that caught my eye while searching: here we have a former journalist from IGN trying to thinly threaten Play-Asia (at least that's how it came across to me, waving your "connections" around is never a good sign). Tweet has long since be deleted, assumingly in an attempt to damage control. Of course, the internet never forgets, but that's not what I care about honeslty since this person is obviously all talk.
What got me really interested, however, is who liked that comment before it got nuked:
There was a problem fetching the tweet
Well well well, Luke Plunkett from Kotaku, we meet again. To put it bluntly, I have beef with him and most Kotaku "journalists"over the many, many years, so it's no surprise he poked his head here. I expect Kotaku to run a hitpiece in an attempt to shame Play Asia, as I would expect nothing less from the bastion of gaming journalism. After all, if you don't tow the party line then they will try to ruin you quickly and swiftly.
Since Kotaku is immediately getting Salt over this, then now it's something I find extremely funny worth caring about, so I guess I'll keep an eye on it for a while.
This whole thing reminds me of the Protein World scandal, which was equally hilarious in how a company was able to benefit and profit off of Salt. To see all of this go down in such a fashion is actually pretty funny and they are reaping the benefits of this situation hard.
Thank you DOA, and thank you Play-Asia, for your controversy has provided me with a great deal of laughs when I should have been sleeping.
---
As for DOA itself, to my understanding I thought the franchise was actually a more popular franchise in the West then the East, so cutting out that market doesn't seem wise even if the sales were possibly dipping. It could be an attempt to minimize localization costs and them thinking any more controversy with it wouldn't be worth it, seemingly what happened with DOA5. Either way I find it an interesting topic.
This is probably one of the best documentaries I have ever seen.
The Gaming Historian really outdid himself. This nearly had me in tears at the end. I definitely think this 35 Minute Video is worth your viewing pleasure.
This was skimmed over by most of the thread members and I HIGHLY implore you to reconsider. I just finished watching it. Made me tear up. Well worth the watch. 10/10.

This. I'm pretty sure just about no one is bothered by the fact Play-Asia selling that game in the first place. Just that their attitude is extremely off putting and are stirring **** with a subject that they shouldn't be stirring **** with in the first place. It brings out the worst in everyone.
Friendly reminder that Gen 4's alternate Rotom forms introduced in Plat were still Ghost/Electric due to compatibility reasons with D/P. Rotom didn't change type until Gen 5. Source: Myself- I used him as a rapid spin blocker until Gen 5 where I was forced to switch him.

Clearly, Play-Asia is using the fact DoAX3 isn't coming to the West and pinning the blame on SJWs to get attention.
Positive or negative, attention is attention. It works out in their favor as they're getting the publicity they need and potentially will get people to buy the game through them when otherwise wouldn't.
Stirring up a controversy does have its merits sometimes, as unprofessional as it may be.
Props to the mod who re-added Swamp to the title. It was late and in my tiredness I forgot.
Good game news site for reviews? Typically I find, honestly, IGN better than a lot of places, despite what people say about "Too much water" and the like. That being said I typically just look at the average of all major review scores (while ignoring anything associated with the tabloid-esque trash that is Gawker) and look at the most common complaints between them.
IGN is actually a great reviewer at times since they look for the faults in games without been too biased unlike Game Informer. So I never got the IGNorant jokes nor cries of bias against Nintendo titles.
Now Famitsu on the other hand is too soft nowadays where they consider any game perfect. They gave Sonic Lost World a perfect 40/40 when the game had enough problems to warrant mixed reviews in the West. I love that game and the ideas they had (Those Deadly Six are hilarious, but deadly), but I seriously don't think it really deserve a perfect score anywhere. Not like Famitsu had been better since they also adore a flawed action title like Devil's Third.
