Well, I'm back from a few-hour trip to the hospital, and all I can say is that I'm lucky that it wasn't worse. I still have my limbs. My head wound wasn't too serious and only needed a few staples (despite throwing myself from a moving vehicle), and I'm suddenly more happy to be alive at all.

...Hopefully I can go on anxiety/anger medication again. I'm scared of what might happen next time.

I really hope Cloud is as fun to use as Ryu is! Same for the other DLC characters.
A character being popular is awesome, but if the character is popular and fun to play as it's even better. Like, pretty much everyone was hyped for Mewtwo but not many people use him anymore. On the other hand I've seen a lot of Roys though not many actually wanted him.

God dammit I am super hyped for Bravely Second I do not want to have to go into pre-release with a whole bunch of controversies.

We've had enough localization controversies as is we don't need another ridiculously stupid one :/

NoA is pretty localization happy, but some of those changes are very much required in order to get the game to you. If you don't want to deal with localization then learning Japanese and playing the original is the only way as even with a straight translation things are bound to be messed up.

Problem though is that of course kids would be like "hellnoiwantthemboobpolygons"
that'd be cool if they were able to have it set that if there were parental controls on the system, it switches to the censored version or something though.

Yeah that's not realistic. People get up in arms about nothing. Look at the Baby Pals game saying "Islam is the Light" for proof.

Native Americans are often associated with "feathers" (Like the old racist saying goes Indian? Dot or Feather?) so having a feather and "stereotypical" Native American garb is going to offend someone, somewhere.

I saw this a little bit ago and honestly, I'm in favor of the change. I don't think it's really a great idea to have a job that's mostly a scantily clad Native American stereotype, especially given the history in the U.S. and elsewhere of stereotyping native peoples and perpetuating the idea of a homogenized Native American.

Whether or not it's fair to blame the developers who don't necessarily have the same cultural context, I think the localizers made the right call. It is a little funny that they went with a cowboy of all things, but I guess it makes some sense given that the job uses guns.

So I guess I'm the person somewhere who was offended, haha.

Of course I am joking with that statement, but this isn't surprising, and honestly even if they did a sequel I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't have a major role. A full reboot for the franchise in the next few years could be good.

Japan doesn't have the same cultural sensitivity as the United States. "black face" is very much a thing here, and foreigners are usually lumped into one group. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf one of the things that had to be changed was a character saying "Nice tan" to Miis with darker skin tones. If you guys are interested in this kind of stuff, I highly recommend listening to Chris Pranger's (A now, former Nintendo localizer) interview with Part Time Gamer.
