Do you think Cloud is considered to represent Final Fantasy as a whole or only Final Fantasy VII?

The natural assumption seems to be that he represents the whole series, but in in his reveal trailer it actually said "Super Smash Bros for 3DS/Wii U x Final Fantasy VII", whereas all the other times we've seen the "x" thing (Ryu and Mii costumes) it's been the whole series. And on the DLC page, the copyright is "FINAL FANTASY VII : © 1997 SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. All Rights Reserved."

I'm sure Cloud and Midgar mainly represent Final Fantasy VII. However, considering Midgar's gimmick is Summon Monsters, which is a huge recurring feature for almost all games after III(and even then, Bahamut appears in FF1 and Leviathan in FF2), one of the parts in Cloud's trailer references the spell Toad, a recurring spell and Chocobo hats, I'm sure they have some intent to do some representing for Final Fantasy as a whole, even if Cloud and Midgar mainly represent FFVII. Not to mention we have yet to see what else will come with Cloud and Midgar.

For December, I'd actually like to see some veterans mixed with newcomers, similar to the E3 presentation.

Wolf and Snake would be the best choices in this regard. One of them, both of them. You know the drill. Ivysaur and Squirtle aren't bad picks either, though I'd rather see characters from other series given Mewtwo is DLC already.

I think there should be a balance between newcomers and veterans in this kind of presentations, to which I add that it's always been the case for almost all special broadcasts.

The only exception would be the 50-Fact Extravaganza, but even so, it was when Bowser Jr.'s trailer was officially shown, along with Mewtwo's reveal. Again, veteran and newcomer combo.

Of course, this is just basing off a pattern and I'm not keen on doing such things as patterns can be broken anytime, but I'm kind of hopeful it goes like this once more.

I think Wolf and Snake have both their chance at the December presentation. Snake would cause hype and "complete" the third-party character line-up. Seriously, with Mega Man, Pac-Man, Ryu and Cloud having been added all at once in this installment, along with Sonic returning, it's begging to have Snake back.

Speaking of third parties, with Cloud being confirmed, this installment added double the amount of third party characters than Brawl, with 4 newcomers.

Wolf is more or less on the same level of popularity as Snake. The fact he's a pseudo-clone character that uses assets from other characters and is relatively easier to add could be an opportunity to appease fans. It also helps that he's got a new game coming next year.

If only one is to be added, I'd say it will all depend on whether Sakurai and Nintendo manage to secure a deal with Konami. Should it happen, it's natural that Snake gets more priority given the licensing costs.

All in all, here's hoping we get to see a few more faces from previous Smash games along with other surprises.

1. You weren't the only person to PM me. I got multiple PMs within a span of a few minutes asking for extra information. My post was to prevent even more PMs from incoming, and to remind people about #3.

2. Calm down. It's a rumor about a character in a video game. I'm not trying to play games with you or anything else.

3. I can't sell out people's sources. You need to realize there's a line that I can't cross with reporting. It would ruin my credibility and any other chances I could have to build professional relations with other sources. I discuss that kind of stuff here. With sensitive information like this, people's jobs are endangered, if not their livelihood. People need to respect that and take it serious.

After discussing the rumor with Liam (Tamaki) and Neo Zero (an admin on SmashBoards), the three of us believe there is considerable weight to this rumor. While we cannot go into specific information that has been shared; Liam (Tamaki) does have multiple sources– involved in both retail and the video games industry that back this rumor. The main source behind this is an individual that has been proven as a legitimate source of information. The source is also confident that Shovel Knight is a full playable character, and not a costume or some other form of DLC.

The information about Shovel Knight potentially getting an amiibo was posted by Nintendo Life as they found out that information in their own research.

As of right now, there is no additional information to be shared. We do not know any other characters that are part of DLC. Until it’s fully revealed, or until we find additional information, it’s best to treat this as a RUMOR. There is some reason to believe it, but for now it’s a RUMOR. Is literally everything from the source that I could report on and was posted months ago. I made that post for you guys. That's everything that was not speculation. That's the information you need to be paying attention to. I dont know how I can make it any clearer.

The issue with speculation and rumor reporting is that so much bias gets thrown into the mix. I've done my best to remove as much as I could.

That's all I remember as well, other than the SK amiibo existing (before officially revealed) and that it would be compatible with Smash.
And then the expected announcement in late October/early November.

This is why the "next character released" thing threw me off. If that statement wasn't said, then the rumor has a very thin string to grab onto. The amiibo.
It was stated to be compatible to Smash. Notably, that would mean the amiibo wouldn't be released until after that little tidbit was revealed.
The amiibo is speculated to be released in December. The Presentation is in December. If the rumor was actually true, that would be when the truth would be revealed.

But if that statement was said, it makes things much more complicated.
