The natural assumption seems to be that he represents the whole series, but in in his reveal trailer it actually said "Super Smash Bros for 3DS/Wii U x Final Fantasy VII", whereas all the other times we've seen the "x" thing (Ryu and Mii costumes) it's been the whole series. And on the DLC page, the copyright is "FINAL FANTASY VII : © 1997 SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. All Rights Reserved."

I'm thinking he represents VII but also represents the franchise at the same time.

The copyright thing is most likely because Cloud is only from 7
But I think he is supposed to represent the whole series, otherwise it wouldn't make sense to only represent a game that has never been on a Nintendo console

Both really. While most FF are separate things of each other, Cloud represents his home game, his overall franchise and Square-Enix

I can see most of the content coming from FF7, though I feel like they may show other characters and such from the other games (Mii costumes and a few trophies). For now though, it does feel like FF7 will be getting the spotlight

We have the first new character since early June on the horizon, with promise of what may be the final stream and details for Smash 4.

Speculation is utterly pointless at this point. We have two things we KNOW are going to happen, and we may know the final Smash Run (har) of DLC in just over two weeks. Cloud literally breaks so many barriers and limits (HAR) for what can and can't happen as we near the end of the ride. There are no more breaks. We can't stop now. THIS IS SMASH COUNTRY.

...I do wonder about those extra modes Sakurai mentioned. I guess those might show up in 2 weeks as well. Melee style adventure mode pleaaase
