Eh, if a character as mocked and hated as Wolf was in the Smash fandom gets axed and suddenly becomes the most requested character out of everyone for it, I think anyone in charge of Smash Bros would get their heads ripped off for not including her regardless of whether she's popular in the Pokemon fandom or not. Nintendo gets a far worse reaction off of cuts than skipping out on the extra work is often worth, so it's not all that safe to assume than a character with a unique moveset is going to go just because they've fallen out of favor.

At this point, most people seem to see Jigglypuff more as a "Super Smash Bros character" than a "Pokemon character" so yeah. Even if she isn't as popular with the Pokemon fandom. I can imagine a backlash happening similar to the Ice Climbers if she ever got the boot since most fans see her very closely within the Smash family along with Ness and Captain Falcon, who have all been tagging along since the very first game.
And it goes down and down.... And 19%, ouch.
Well, the thing is. Thor is my least favorite avenger. So, knowing it's his villain they fight in the first one didn't really draw me in
I honestly wouldn't care that much if Mega Man was cut. Sure, he fits in well, but in the end he's a guest character. Sonic though is practically Mario's cousin, so cutting him would make me a bit more upsetJigglypuff is in due to legacy status.
She's already grandfathered in the roster like Ness and Captain Falcon.
People will lose their mind if ANY of the original 12 get cut and if you think Wolf got massive salt, imagine when
I think a more apt description would be Mega Man is the cousin and Sonic is the best friend that came from the opposite faction in the war.

That poll is honestly a bit iffy as it was done in a tournament-like format, was poorly advertised, and split the characters by generation (and second generation isn't nearly as popular as their first gen counterparts in most cases). So you had popular characters that were likely kicked off early due to who they went up against first, and characters who weren't that popular in the first place make it farther then they should've.According to a recent poll Nintendo themselves held on Twitter, Camilla is the most popular sibling in Fates, with Ryoma in second.
Though I kinda get the feeling they were voted for the wrong reasons.
Looking at this list, you can see how the franchise's promotion has influenced the votes. Many of the Pokémon in the top 50/100 are either legendaries, starters, mascots of sorts (ex. Eevee, Lucario), or were owned by a major character in the anime, and all of them by proxy of that are of course heavily promoted by the series. So it seems like many of the kids voting for the Pokémon had some influence from what's being promoted, and it makes sense since they're the crowd Pokémon is trying to cater to with these potential favorites.
It makes sense actually, Zygarde is one of the Pokémon currently promoted the most at this point in time with the anime, so it's on many kids' minds and they probably want their own for that reason. Really, I'm more surprised it didn't do better since it's up there with Greninja in that regard, yet it barely made the top 10.
I think both. They promote some and try to make us like them, but others the game like, they promote them more
Well, this certainly made my day.
As much as I recognize the importance of characters like Sonic and Megaman and as much as I feel they have a place on the roster, I don't really care for them that much as fighters...
I watched the trailer, and as someone who has little knowledge of the games, it seems a bit too crammed with jokes.

He is there because between 4chan and Japan, they actually made him some type of meme the past year. This was acknowledged in Gengar's pokken trailer, because from what I have read, magemite actually won the poll, but they couldn't do that so they chose gengar, but gave magemite cameos.
It is a bit of both. They promote certain mons on there own, but fan favorites eventually get promoted through different ways, such as the anime or spinoff, or just random merch.

Cloud is the only character I wanted that was added into Smash...so I want him to stay pretty badly...

Mixture of both. You do have Pokémon like Lugia, who were promoted to begin with, but maintained a good amount of promotion due to their high popularity. On the other hand, you have examples like Gardevoir, who weren't all that promoted when they were first revealed, but later got a lot of promotion because they were a hit with fans.
