Cloud is big with Nintendo because his game marks the one that left Nintendo.
They also brought up the possibility of NX getting the FF7 Remake in return for Cloud being in Smash.
And the possibility that FF7 on NX could support Cloud's Smash Amiibo.

English-language VAs being properly credited in the custom character builder? That's rare, indeed.

The "Classic" voices are Adam Howden and Carina Reeves, who are Shulk and Fiora in Xenoblade. Fittingly named.

All in all, those are solid voice actor cast for the custom character. Seem they got more American VAs than British, which also makes sense given New LA.

With Lin bring voiced by Cassandra Lee and Bryce Papenbrook and Erin Fitzgerald being choices for the avatar, that's almost the entire voice cast for the party in Bravely Default. Respectively, they are Edea, Tiz and Agnès.

The female options have a surprising lack of Laura Bailey.

Also, there are LESS options than in the Japanese version. The Japanese version has 10 different voice choices for each gender, totaling 20 different voice actors.

The English dub only has 7 voice actors per gender, resulting in a total of 14 voice actors.

Still, there's plenty of choice and both languages' casts are solid.

Also, for Gurren Lagann fans, Simon is a voice option for both languages: Tetsuya Kakihara and Yuri Lowenthal are options for the avatar.

My FF knowledge is limited but i'm pretty sure that's one of the crystals from FF1, a game black mage appears in.

Im not sure if they appear in ff7 (kind of doubt it) but the crystal definitely has a better reason to be associated with Black Mage then Cloud.

And here's the main thing about Cloud.

While he's clearly representing his home game, Final Fantasy 7 similar to that of with SF2 and with the classic games, just like then.

But he's also represents Final Fantasy series as a whole which has much more of a massive history with Nintendo and his company as well.

If you're Square-Enix and Nintendo came to you for a rep for their big crossover game, who would you use to help make much more money? Some other SE character or the character that is the face of your flagship franchise.

Cloud is the best choice for Square and I will forever believe that mindset because what other franchise is bigger than FF? Dragon Quest is close but doesn't have that overall popularity that FF all over the world and Kingdom Hearts? Don't make me laugh.

Final Fantasy is Square-Enix, made its journey and history on Nintendo systems and Cloud is their series Icon.

Put two and two together and it'll never seem far fetched at all.

I think the 3rd party characters should be really popular in all regions, all of them have been so far. Characters like Master Chief, Lara Croft, Scorpion and Rayman can't claim to be really popular in Japan.

Xenoblade Chronicles X removing the option to adjust the female avatar's chest size actually really bothers me.
Because naturally, with the option gone all female avatars will be somewhere in the middle. I can't have a flat chested girl anymore as my lead.

In other words, in Nintendo's effort to make the game less perverse it actually has the opposite effect because my female avatar will be forced to have decently-sized breasts I don't want her to have.

The rivalry between SEGA and Nintendo was fronted by the rivalry between Mario and Sonic. Nintendo didn't have a rivalry with the Final Fantasy series, it was initially a big part of their own systems. Cloud wasn't conceived as a way to compete with Nintendo.

Cloud really isn't directly important to Nintendo. He's important to gaming though, you can say that his inception influenced some of Nintendo's future games and characters.

A comparison to Sonic isn't appropriate, you'd be a tiny bit closer if you wanted to compare his inclusion to Solid Snake's.

What he actually said was that manga characters would not be in Brawl.

If people can use the fact he didn't say guests HAD to be on a Nintendo system for Master Chief, I can use the fact he didn't say guests HAD to originate in a video game for Goku.

I'll be honest: I can understand why they removed Lin's fanservice outfits, but I think the removal of the breast slider is a bit too much given women can naturally have different breast sizes.

I'm still getting the game, though. I just don't agree with some of the changes. I wonder if dealing with age rating boards (ESRB, PEGI) had an impact on the changes. Perhaps, they were aiming for a T/12+ rating and had to remove features to meet that objective? This is something to ponder.

This is the first time I disagree with one of the changes in XCX. I think this is a bit excessive. However, I feel it's not a deal breaker and I'm sure the game will still be enjoyable.
