I still live in a world where Cloud is in Smash even when I wake up.

This will take a long time to process.

It took me until Smash 4 to comprehend that Sonic was in Brawl.

Some conclusions I have made thus far:

-I think Sakurai might be planning to add the biggest gaming icons there is in Smash. As for who the last two characters could be, I think Konami could happen, but I'm unsure.

-Forget what I said about Frogger, I think Snake could come back if the icon theory holds true.

-I think Master Chief may have a chance in Smash with the icon theory in mind, it's a 5% chance of happening the same way with Banjo.

-Sakurai has more resources available to use than I thought, if he could license Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy.

-This is the most shocking reveal in Smash of all-time. If I tried to think in hindsight, I would feel extreme guilt.

-A GENO COSTUME MUST HAPPEN! (AND MAYBE AN AGNES AND SORA COSTUME IF POSSIBLE)

-That Person's Name is should be in the Midgar stage.

-CHRONO TRIGGER MUSIC MUST HAPPEN! SO SHOULD SMRPG MUSIC!

I think that's all of the conclusions I have made thus far.

I've been yelling for months that our polling data will never match up for the actual ballot results (which btw, includes the Japanese DLC "polling" I did which...Cloud placed in the top 20. Go me.), and that popular candidates in the "running" all have their own issues. Plus it doesn't help that most people didn't know (and still don't) that being on a Nintendo system is NOT a requirement. I've been saying that for a month too when I re-translated that Brawl-era text.

Basically, we need to take the fanboyism out of speculation and bring speculation back its origin...based on facts.

An unpopular character in the context of hardcore Smash speculation, I meant. I've seen that r/gaming and quite frankly agree with them. Cloud is undoubtedly hype, it's just that we're so blinded with our own expectations.

So now if someone like Master Chief or Banjo Kazooie is revealed it wouldn't actually be as surprising as Cloud.

Go to mainstream gaming sites, and the headlines usually read something like "Holy ****, Cloud Strife is playable in Smash Bros."

I've said this before, but think of all the Brawl PSA you've seen over the years. Now think about how many of them where for Cloud. He's more popular with Smash fans than you think.

Well, of course it makes sense that the two DLC third-party characters we got were majorly iconic video game characters with millions of fans. Consideirng the cost of obtaining the rights to use third-party characters in general (particularly when splitting the costs) it makes sense to go for the big guns. Doesn't mean that Nintendo characters are held to the same standard of iconicness as them, proven by Roy being DLC (and there are definetly several popular Nintendo characters on par with or more well-known than him). Though I wouldn't be surprised to see a Pokemon newcomer as DLC.

Even if we only get FFVII music, it can't be any worse than the SF music selection
Oh yes, I love multiple remixes of the same two songs
One-Winged Angel is a given and not having a Prelude remix would be a crime
I didn't play VII so I don't know what other songs could be included
Which ones were in the trailer? I think the standard battle theme was playing?
And if we get music from the SNES games, I wamt Battle Against The Four Fiends from IV and Decisive Battle from VI

I also really like the stage, since it has multiple summons, and those are recurring from the series, which also means it can represent more than FFVII itself
Though I believe the designs are from VII so I didn't recognize them, can somene that recognizes them make a list of the Summons shown in the trailer?

While Cloud isn't exactly my favorite character, and FFVII isn't exactly my favorite RPG, I absolutely love the precedence that this sets. All the rules and assumptions that the fan have created and contrived have all been thrown out the proverbial window. Let's not forget that Nintendo is a business. Cloud's inclusion will not only attract sales, it may even attract new fans to the series (which translates to even more sales).

I'd still be shocked by Master Chief, but yeah. The fan criteria for what third party can/is likely to get into the game is pretty removed from reality, and always has been.

People have been talking about how guest fighters need to be highly relevant to Nintendo since forever, but the first third party character we ever even got was Snake. People brushed it off as a favor to Kojima or found some other reason to treat him like an exception to their rules rather than the thing that disproves them.

I'm glad Cloud broke this trend.

This has to be the best roster ever. The SSB4 newcomer choices are really something. I daresay the quality of SSB4 newcomer choices (star power) surpass the quality of Brawl newcomer choices (filling the quota) in my opinion.

Really doubt Sakurai's going to break either of those rules, he seems pretty set on them. Snake only had explosive weapons in Brawl, and that game was rated T; doubt he's going to start putting in realistic fireams now.

Those two rules have held firm and probably will.

Real world guns in an E-10 game makes no sense and there's really no reason to add a non-video game character when you have so many big name video game characters that can added instead.

At least, some music or Mii costumes based on other Final Fantasy games.

The series has a huge library of music to pick from, so I think it would be a shame to restrict the selection to just FF7.

honestly I really hope there's going to be street fighter mii costumes that aren't gross so i have a reason to buy costumes. If there was a Chunners/Gief Brawler costume, Guile Gunner costume and Vega Swordfighter costume that would be super fresh.
