Do you guys realise that out of the 5 known DLC characters, 4 of them are from RPGs.
Well considering RPGs have large casts that while engaging for the term of the game don't tend to remain iconic, which subsequently lead to their dropping in latter games... Though Roy's game is more turn based strategy with a heavy RPG focus than a pure RPG.

I mean, who doesn't like RPG characters?
We should make it a 5/7 or even a 6/8, right?
Because we still need a certain character from a certain action game

Cloud's Advent Children alternate costume is one of the few things in Smash to not come directly from a video game. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is a CGI animated movie sequel to the game.

Also, even though Cloud doesn't have a lot of association with Nintendo, the Final Fantasy series overall still does, having 6 main titles released on Nintendo consoles and several spin-off titles exclusive to Nintendo systems.

It's also not the first time Final Fantasy crossed over with Nintendo either: some Mario sports games (Mario Sports Mix and Mario Hoops 3-on-3) have Final Fantasy content, having been developed by Square Enix. Ironically, however, none of the FF content in Smash has crossed over with Nintendo before. Similarly, all Final Fantasy content found in those Mario sports games hasn't been confirmed for Smash yet.

Chocobos, being the basis for a Mii Fighter costume, made their debut in Final Fantasy II, released on the NES (and also available on the Virtual Console on Wii, 3DS and Wii U), though only in Japan. It also had a worldwide release on the GBA. They're a recurring element of the series, having appeared in many Final Fantasy titles (despite the different storylines).

Do you guys realise that out of the 5 known DLC characters, 4 of them are from RPGs.
Yep.

Well, that's not necessarily a bad thing, is it?

I wonder how history will treat heavily requested indie characters? Will they be looked down on by most Smash fans in about a year's time or will there still be a fairly large number of supporters for them come the next Smash game?

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a Geno Mii costume. I wonder if an Agnes Mii costume is possible?

With the Playsation's most well known RPG hero on the system we are fast approaching an event horizon where Smash will have everyone and everything.

So... did anything happen in the last pages of the thread? The thread moved up significantly and I was wondering if there's anything important in there I should potentially know about.

The Chocobo Mii hat doesn't seem to be based on their design from Final Fantasy VII, but rather from their chibi-like design from several Chocobo spin-off titles.

Compare:

I find it difficult to tell if the monsters in the background are actually 3D models or hand drawn sprites (like the Nightmare Assist Trophy) They've done a really good job with those.

Square Enix Mii costumes are guaranteed now. It just remains to be seen whether they're restricted to Final Fantasy or if they branch out. They have a lot of potential money makers for Miis.

Means your previous Geno could finally be in Smash, albeit not the way fans wanted(let's be honest, his dimensions are perfect for a Mii).

Lol @ people upset over Cloud.

I personally don't much care for him, but I was certainly surprised.

If anything, it means:

...is all but confirmed at this point. It's obvious they're trying to go for big gaming icons that generate lots of hype for some of the DLC.

Considering the waves the possibility of Banjo being in made earlier this year, as well as the fact that Nintendo x M$ relations are good, well.

Though there will still be naysayers in denial. But, I also love how Cloud pretty much debunks everything naysayers could say about Banjo.

I await your salt in December. :p

Oh yeah, as for the Direct as a whole. It was pretty **** (amiibo, more amiibo, stuff we knew, and remakes oh my!! - Nintendo is creatively dead), but it had silver lining moments (glad to see Fast Racing NEO at least got some attention, game looks dope).

Man, if we get Banjo as DLC, imagine the reactions of great surprise...

I want Banjo a lot too, but I'm going to remember this post. This is a lot of confidence over not much right now.

I would love this so much but don't you think you're getting a bit ahead here? People have acted like so many characters have been guaranteed in the past.

I do think it's interesting that there's some possible Microsoft/Nintendo collaboration going on, but I don't think that points to Smash yet.

They would have endless moveset potential though.

I think Ryu and Cloud in Smash 4 (and by extension Snake in Brawl) is an expert marketing manoeuvre. Instead of being a blatant "this game is on the system buy it naow" thing that every single 3rd party in all stars had (Donte, Raiden, Isaac Clarke, even Heitchi used his Tag Tournament 2 design) it's instead a celebration of their games as a whole (Snake takes cues from all 3 then Metal Gear games, Ryu has moves from all SF games, including the button pressure gimmick from the first forgotten one, Cloud has an Advent Children alt), which encourages Nintendo fans to seek them out by gettign them invested. How many of us got into Metal Gear after Brawl?

And not to mention Nintendo platforms lack of 3rd party support but excellent 1st party games lead to them being secondary consoles, cross platform advertising is more effective than you think.

Ideally, I think three more characters should be added, those being Wolf and two Nintendo series newcomers.

That way, we'd have 4 veterans and 4 newcomers. Of the veterans, two from Melee and two from Brawl. Of the newcomers, two Nintendo characters and two third-party characters.

At this point, however, anything is possible. I admit I'll be somewhat disappointed if Wolf doesn't make it back at all, but this roster is quite good at this point. This game has raised the standard when it comes to Smash rosters and it's going to be difficult to top it in a sequel.

Well, I think there is a very strong case for their addition for numerous reasons.

For one, they were among the Top 3 most voted characters in the ballot according to polls. Which means there is a lot of fan demand, with a lot of people claiming they didn't vote Banjo simply cause they didn't believe he had a chance.

Second, a mere tweet from Phil Spencer made the internet blow up, thus, it's evident the hype is there. Not to mention the love for the series is still strong (Yooka-Laylee).

Third, Cloud pretty much solidifies that they wanna add huge gaming icons, with SOME importance to Nintendo history. Cloud is the face of SE, and even if he himself hasn't been featured in a Nintendo console (he has appeared), SE's relationship with Nintendo is strong enough to merit that fact. Even if SE gave Nintendo the big middle finger with FFVII. It's a very similar case with Rare and Banjo, and really, how many huge gaming icons are left? Perhaps the return of Snake, or adding in Simon, which, if we got both Snake and Banjo I'd be giddy. In any case, they're gonna need something huge to match Cloud and Ryu in terms of DLC, something to finish with a bang. All the signs point to a very, VERY obvious choice. No other "3rd party" characters can really match Banjo in regard to being iconic as well as representing a strong tie to Nintendo history, and gaming culture in general. Rare was huge!!

Basically, Fan demand + Money potential/hype + huge gaming icon. It's Mega Man all over again.

Now, I could still be wrong, I do admit it. But I'm 99% certain we'll be seeing Banjo as a DLC addition at this point. It doesn't take much to see why they would, especially from a business standpoint, and the only reason they wouldn't would be negociation problems. But considering Spencer is a bro, and N+M have good relations, and negotiations were possible with SE, I don't see much getting in the way.

You know, if one day every third-party company in Smash Bros. got two characters, we could totally have Lara Croft and holy **** that would so amazing.

I'm going to make a collage right now.

You're right. The only way I can see is if the 3rd parties were opened up to the level of the other Nintendo series so they could get multiple stages and characters.

Though if so I hope that Cloud's series count for Final Fantasy as a whole rather than just 7. That way we could get for example Black Mage to represent the pre-3d era.

What moves would she even have tho. Nathan Drake was silly enough, but what would Lara do?

I mean summoning a T-Rex would be her final Smash but besides that...

Which Lara do you have in mind? The more iconic two guns (and twin pistols) Lara of old or the more moveset inspiration diverse brutal death scene Lara of today?

A little bit of both.
I haven't played any of the classic Tomb Raider games though, just going off the reboot for moveset.
But I can't imagine her not having dual pistols.

If Cloud has taught us nothing else, he's taught as that Sakurai doesn't give a fudge about any rivalries with Sony or Microsoft. Both Ryu and Cloud have their next games coming out exclusively for the PS4. And while Ryu has had a history with Nintendo, Cloud has not.

If anything, this fact alone bodes well for Banjo-Kazooie.

Yeah gotta admit, if there's any other 3rd Parties left, Banjo would be Cloud-level of hype.

Not to mention, Sakurai's tried to get him in Smash before (Planned for Melee) and Phil already said he's up for it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him in December (still thinking we're only getting first parties though)

Wow, I just saw a tech site that gave Yokai Watch 5/5

I can tell you right now, it's kinda fun but not a perfect game by ANY means

Especially for a competitive battler

So many issues I can't really think of a good solution for other than "Copy what Pokemon did"

Doomguy.

Why the hell not.
The guns may pose a problem but that's easily fixed. Make Doom Guy 2D and pixelated like he appeared in the original games and make his bullets pixelated so they can pass off as Mega Man lemons.

Xander was probably paid to actually say Cloud already.

He probably also thought it was just a very unlikely name on the list of names.

This is just mind-blowing.
