I don't know, but as a Tails fan, I can pretty much sum up my opinion with a single meme.

Wait, people hated Tails? I thought the fanbase disliked the other "friends" that started to appear after Sonic & Knuckles.

No, it's gotten to the point where anyone that's not Sonic himself gets a massive negative reaction. People also lump a lot of hate onto Tails for "starting the trend."

Sonic himself gets a lot of hate from all sides, too, but it's slightly quieter seeing as people rightfully don't see themselves on as solid of ground when hating him.

I don't think they really were. I mean, Shovel Knight and Shantae at least had large followings within the community for the ballot as it was.

One thing I think is funny though - a lot of people say that a character has to sell well in all three major regions, Japan being the biggest one...but doesn't actually sell well in Japan, and never really has.

I mean I know he's got a ton of other merits that would get him into Smash over any other third party (mainly that he shares a franchise with Mario and the history he has with Nintendo, even as a rival), but it's still funny.

Though Sonic definitely is recognisable in Japan even if he doesn't actually sell too well there.

They might have considered Bayo before but didn't want to at least yet at the time, since ZSS has clearly been inspired from Bayo in some of her air attacks and them jetboots too (but to make it unique instead of adding zappers to her shoes!). I feel you. This becomes pretty damn annoying when it comes to talking about in other places. One day I posted "#Smashified Takamaru" on Omni's channel only for a group of people to say "Ha! Assist Trophy!" like there's no tomorrow. Then the usual "blue haired swordsman" arguments would ensue hours later.

And to be quite honest, they (The Smashified Team) already covered the more heavily requested character like Rool and such at this point. Even all you can really expect are posts about random third parties like Crash Bandicoot. Think about it this way, it's one of those things where more characters can get publicity easily (Rayman being a good one).

Fan rules, while may having some good intentions for some, can really hinder the support for others, especially when it turns out in the end that these "rules" never really meant anything in the long run and just a matter of the fandom putting up arbitrary limitations on each other and hindering the support of certain characters.

Of course the "Iconic gaming icon 3rd parties only" rule was one of those that plagued a number of characters, only to find out that Sakurai is happy to consider any third party for Smash from as recent as Bayonetta to someone who hasn't seen much activity like Geno.

I think people really shouldn't treat these rules as gospel imo.

I still feel that third party rule is still there, this was the only I feel was pretty out there. You don't even see Platinum Games at all on the licensing which I thought was a bit weird at first, but Sega obviously still owns the IP. If you seen her page it tells you that Sega and Nintendo both support this franchise. What I'm getting at is they obviously didn't have a problem putting her in there especially since they already have Sega's support with just having Sonic there. It comes to if your willing to negotiate then your character will be in Smash.

I've actually seen plenty of people who still used that argument even during the ballot run, Professor Layton actually had the most detractors during that point in time for this. I can't really speak much for Shovel Knight and Shantae since I don't really follow with their support groups, I suppose they did well to keep it up as well as they did, although I have seen them with their share of issues too from time to time.

Eitherway, if the ballot is supposedly the exception, then I feel it should be treated this way next time they do another ballot like this.

It's tough being a Waluigi fan. I've made a similar request on the Lilac video and a bunch of ***hats would say "But's he's an AT!" or "There's already enough ****ing Mario characters". And I'll be like "Yes, I know. Can't I request a damn character that I like you ****ing Yanks?"

Normally I would not say any form of derogatory slur towards Americans, but I sometimes lose it when pushed to the edge. That's why I'm at the point where I block any idiot on YouTube/Google+ like Kamiya would. Enough of the Smash idiots indeed.

I just needed some sort of closure...I never expected any NPC to be made playable, while there was some hope for a miracle...(especially with the upcoming TPHD, it seemed a slightly larger than astronomical chance)...and I felt that the Smash ballot was exactly that, a second chance...

and yet nothing to show for it...sure some assists got mii costumes which gave them something, but nobody was really gunning for that at all...and even then my top 2 didn't even get that...

It was especially tough as one who supported Dark Samus...if there was no mention of her assist trophy it's either 'Not Ridley' or 'we don't need another Dark Pit'...first point shouldn't matter, second is just pure ignorance....

Not saying Platinum had no say, but if they did it just makes me wonder why are they not apart of the licensing. If you actually look at some past interviews with Sakurai though, he has said some stuff about third parties in the past. If most of you would actually take what he says from his own mouth then you guys wouldn't make such a fuss about it. The one with Mega Man is probably the biggest one. I would at least look at that, especially considering what we had during that time, and after E3 of 2014. The community likes take Sakurai's words twist them up, when the guy is straightforward as possible. I don't think there was a time at all when he straight out conflicts himself on what he said. The community may think that, but I don't believe he ever had. I do think the third party stills holds merrit truth if you actually read at past articles on what he had to say on them.

When the ballot came, he literally said ANY character as a DLC would be fan-service, for this possible one time thing. That was what Bayonetta was pure fan-service to those that voted for her and the ones that wanted her. I don't think her inclusion really changes up anything for the future as some make it out to be. If anything I say it was just good timing, I feel. If Ryu and Cloud are anything to by, he does like putting in major characters in Smash. The ballot may have been just a one time thing. Speaking of the ballot, I doubt will get something like this again considering how people reacted to it before and after and the results aren't quite what you expected. Don't kill for this but I kind of hope we don't get something like that again. It started to get...disastrous with the fans after a couple of months.

I finally caught up! I don't think i've posted here since before Bayo and Corrin were released, but i'm sure you guys caught all the likes along the way! To recap some things- Corrin is fun, Conquest is hard but enjoyable, and Pokemon Direct tomorrow is super hype.

Honestly Waluigi, Daisy, and any other character that shows up in a large volume of Mario spinoffs and isn't some ultra-generic enemy is going to get top billing in terms of consideration just due to how Mario spinoff overcenteralized first party game sales are as a whole. Trying to shoot them down is a rather futile effort just due to how utterly huge their followings are from that alone.

The only thing you're really left with at the end of the day when discussing them is a huge catfight as to which one "deserves" a spot more. Prior to Smash 4 it was between Daisy, Waluigi, Toad, and Bowser Jr. Rosalina ticked quite a few people off for not even being part of this four-way bickering, while a lot of people likely still resent Bowser Jr. for not having the paintbrush moveset they were convinced he would have or for not being one of the other three. Either way, we're going to have to brace ourselves for another round of head-bashings between the supporters of everyone who's left (possibly with Nabbit thrown in there for good measure because it's an individual entity that got marketed) the instant speculation hits full force again.

Dunno but I rarely saw that prior to Rosalina's reveal.. tho I then I was just still starting speculation slowly.

I think it's really hard to predict the next games speculation scene, especially as a whole because:

• There's multiple stages and it changes over time
• Even the beginning will be hard to predict as we don't know who will be revealed first
• Leaks/Rumours
• Possible more DLC & another Ballot
• Possible new director / Sakurai having less power.
• Bandwagons
• New characters that don't yet exist
• Other factors..
