It's a ****ing house tournament, it's not like you even pay the rent or anything.

5 to throw down for food would be fine, but anything else is just silly.

I never charged an door fee for the Betty tournament, which I held in my current residence at the time.

Gamelot is different though, because it's not my house.

I guess brawl people are just used to that sort of thing.
Before the brawl in the melee golden age everyone would do everything they could to make sure only the tourney fee had to be put in and that entire fee always went to the pot and the top placers. TOs ran tournies for the community and for their enjoyment not for a profit, and in many cases even paid from their own pocket to get a place to hold a tourney and not charge a venue fee.
<3 Bluefork tournies school tournies and house tournies from before, never a venue fee in site =)

I guess no one remembers how much **** we gave Kyle for taking a portion of the venue fee from one of the gamelot tournies even though the owner gave it to him.

Suspect, earlier you said something to KM about if he didn't pay the entry fee he couldn't eat or drink anything. I took that to mean the $5 was optional and went toward providing yumyums. I'd recommend you keep it that way lest you get a big lecture on Smash Ethics from all of us.

1st of all you dont know wtf i pay here, i live with my moms friend and both me and her both pay her for rent so i you dont know what u are talking about STFU

2nd there is a door fee, if u dont want to pay it then simply dont come, crying over 5$ where there is going to be food and drinks (something u dont even get at gamelot....free energy drink wow) and me taking time outta my time to do this.

Just don't eat for that day (maybe a small breakfast). Then, in a sense, the $5 food/drink fee will be worth it.

Well since so few people are going now I don't think I'll be there.


I think the $5 fee is perfectly reasonable since you're providing food and drinks, but I think a lot more people would come if the fee was simply optional--if you don't pay you don't eat. It's your call of course, I just want to see and play as many people as possible in the short time I'm in SA.

This is my tourny so im not changing the rules, don't like it then dont come, plain and simple. Go to some other tourny and pay a venue fee where you get a nice lil wristband

The costs of hosting a tournament are next to none when done in one's own home. It's not about what bills you have to pay; it's a simple observational fact that the amount of money you spend in hosting a tournament is typically a day's worth of electricity. Hence, charging any fee over $0.10 per person is an attempt at making a profit.

Also, recall I made no assumption about whether or not you paid rent. Observe:

as for your complaining that the 5 dollars at Gamelot gets you nothing..... it'll get you much more space that anyone's house, many more tvs, many more set ups, and many more chairs.....

SA thread is not a tournament, it's a thread where we can just talk so it's not really spamming.

5$ for claustrophobes? oh ok... and u guys are always asking for moar set ups anyways.
