Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Which character do you guys think could make into smash switch that has never made an appearance/cameo in any Nintendo game?
Parappa the Rapper, the prince from Katamari Damacy, Master Chief, Sly Cooper, Evil Otto

Don't forget the pilots from Pilotwings 64 are also good candidates for Smash 5.
Well, it's important that the character representing an IP can work on their own merits aside from just being in the game they're in. Which is why I'm having second thoughts about a PilotWings character in Super Smash Bros. Especially when they were Miis in the last game.

Star Hill. Why do you ask?

CATS from zero wing since he is iconic and Nintendo has made a reference of him twice in Tomodach life and Nintendo badge arcade plus he is currently owned by Square-enix after they bought Taito and maybe he could become the first 3rd party playable villain if he makes it in smash.
But I wouldn't say its likely to happen

Speaking of music tracks, I've already talked of it in the dedicated thread but...

Whatever your opinion on this game is, you can't deny this track is too much of an eargasm to get excluded of the next Smash.

Hopefully this time around they actually let us customise which stage the songs play on too. Some of these stages have too few songs to not be allowed to switch a couple from the stages with 10 or more songs.

A lot of XC2 Chronicle songs should make it in. All are great.

I would actually like a T-rated Smash Bros game with a Subspace ( because I am edgy ), but a 10+ would also be good because it would be family friendly. If it was rated T, certain provocative designs could make it and some characters would have more of a chance like Tharja. Which one would you chose? Most are going to say the "10+" so Nintendo can make it family friendly and played for all. That is fine. Thoughts?
The fact we didn't get Guile's Theme feels like the biggest tragedy of 3rd party songs to me. >.>
I could of not agree any more. That theme is awesome.

I hate censorship and won't buy games that bow to it, but my ideal of Smash is not a "mature" game. Part of the draw for me is that it is a light-hearted universe, and I don't want heavy themes in it. For example, I think the essence of Snake is explicit violence, and Bayonetta, sexuality. I think if characters such as these are included in Smash, either their essence must be stripped away (which I think defeats the purpose of including them), or there is tonal whiplash.

I'm all about some Senran Kagura, but I don't want it in Smash.

It would be so ****in rad to have the All Your Base song in Smash.
No, it would be uncomfortable to listen to when I am beating up my opponent. I know it is just a harmless joke but still. What song that actually makes sense to add in Smash would you want?
There are mote reasons why Tharja doesn't have a chance other than the rating.
Why so? Is it because other Fire Emblem characters just outclass her in general? Or would it be too difficult to animate her flap thing? Thank you for telling me if you do so.

I kinda think you misread my post. I was talking about being able to switch songs to other stages and how some stages have too few good songs and could use some songs from the stages with 10+ songs. I'll go along though and say Smash is better sticking with the age rating it has now. Smash shouldn't be a game of realistic violence and panty shots and I feel what they have now is pretty good. I'm also very happy with the changes they made to character designs to make it more kid-friendly, like Corrin getting tights no matter the gender, or Bayo not going full bikini during Wicked Weaves. Peach's weird dress shadow still confuses me though, I don't get why they didn't just give her knee length bloomers or something, though I am thankful for no panty shots. They could have done better with ZSS though.
Also Tharja's outfit wouldn't have made much of a difference if it was allowed as it is or not, being a secondary character who was even optional to recruit was the main strike against her being in Smash.

To be honest there, the Pokemon animes have the same protagonist (Ash) and only change the allies in each season, while in the Digimon anime have different protagonists per season. Even though that Pokemon games are better than Digimon, the Digimon Cyber Sleth: Hacker's memory surprass the Pokemon Sun and Moon (correct me if i'm wrong).

I can see some similarities between Pokemon and Digimon:
  • Both have evolutions (including Mega)
  • Both can fuse partner and monster (See Pokemon Reburst and Digimon Frontier)
  • Almost all their games are RPG (despite being different)
I don't see a bad idea including Agumon in Smash, because i think that will be wonderful.

Snake isn't about explicit violence. Actually the Metal Gear games award the player if they can complete the game without killing anybody with higher ratings, and in Metal Gear Solid 4 it is made clear that Solid Snake hates to kill other people (if he kills 40/50 people in one stage, he will vomit because of how disgusted he is of what he have done). And Snake fights in order to stop wars, he even started Philantropy, an organization that aims at destroying every Metal Gear (aka the strongest weapon ever created) in the world. Sure he can kill other characters, but the same could be said for Samus, Fox or Falco, who don't show any explicit sign of remorse for blowing up spaceships or planets.
I would argue that a real character that represents explicit violence is the Doom Guy, not Solid Snake.

And the way they implemented Bayonetta in Smash for is extremely faithful to the source material while being in a 10+ game. And people forget that Smash for had the same rating as Brawl in both Europe and Japan.

Besides, both characters were added and they surely didn't feel "stripped of their essance".

In regards to Digimon, the biggest issue would probably be the Digivolving mechanic, and how that would work out. Agumon has Greymon, MetalGreymon, and WarGreymon for his Digivolutions, but they would all have to be balanced out in some way.

The former.

Although Tharja is a popular FE character, there's just too many characters competing with her to get that spot in Smash. Not only is she already outclassed by several characters in her own game, but as more and more FE games get released, Tharja seems to get further outclassed by the newer and more important protagonists, like Corrin, Alm, and Celica. At this point, her chances of ever getting into Smash seem unlikely.

Not really difficult. Do what the Rumble Arena games on the ps1 did, when Agumon deals enough damage his 'Digivolution' gauge increases and is visible under the stock icon and stuff. Doing this once turns Agumon into Greymon, a taller, slower, heavier and stronger version of himself. This process can repeat again for MetalGreymon with the same effects, only with some changes. WarGreymon is a Final Smash. If you lose a stock, you devolve back a stage

And the winner of the last poll was Infernape, people are definitely drawn to their fighting types. Empoleon was second place with Roserade right behind it. Torterra was left in the dust for being too slow.

Next up we have a a poll full of Gen 4 Pokken fan favorites so far, which will be fun. Your picks are Croagunk, Weavile, Garchomp, and Abomasnow.

So far Garchomp actually is struggling.

It's Weavile that's stomping.

Alright, I made my first moveset ever... for Bandana Dee. Chandeelure Chandeelure you might wanna see this.
I spent like 6 hours writing this down so I hope you like it.

BandannaDee.png

Bandana Dee moveset

Weight: Slightly heavier than Kirby

Walk speed: Same as Kirby

Run speed: Slightly faster than Kirby

Jump height: Same as Toon Link

Multiple jumps? No

Air speed: Slightly lower than Kirby

Fall speed: Slightly faster than Kirby

Entrance: Bandana Dee crashes into the stage, landing on his face. He then gets up, ready to fight.

Idle animation 1: Bandana Dee dozes off and builds up a bubble that eventually pops, waking him up.

Idle animation 2: Bandana Dee fixes his bandana.

Jab: Bandana Dee thrusts his spear forward.

Jab 2: Bandana Dee spins his spear and thrusts it forward.

Rapid jab: Bandana Dee unleashes a flurry of forward jabs with his spear before finishing with a powerful thrust.

Forward tilt: Bandana Dee swings his parasol in front of him, dealing damages. Can be held down to deflect projectiles.

Up tilt: Bandana Dee thrusts his spear upwards.

Down tilt: Bandana Dee slides along the ground with one of his legs sticking forward to kick enemies. Moves forward.

Dash attack: Bandana Dee creates a spiral of energy orbs in front of him. A multi-hit attack.

Forward smash: Bandana Dee quickly lunges forward, slashing his opponent with his spear. Press the attack button again at the right time to perform a follow-up attack.

Up smash: Bandana Dee throws a spear diagonally upwards . If it hits while traveling upwards, it stuns, and spikes when traveling downwards. Can be aimed 180 degrees.

Down smash: Bandana Dee spins his spear and thrusts its shaft forward, then performs a reverse gripped thrust behind himself (Think Cloud’s down smash).

Neutral aerial: Bandana Dee thrusts his parasol above him and opens it. If you hold down the attack button, Bandana Dee’s descent will be slowed down.

Forward aerial: Bandana Dee performs a rapid jab with his spear in midair at an angle. (Based on the new staff ability)

Back aerial: Bandana Dee turns around to wave the beam whip about a 45 degree angle above him to the same angle below him. Stuns for a few frames.

Up aerial: Bandana Dee thrusts his spear upwards in midair.

Down aerial: Bandana Dee flashes the spear and twirls it downwards towards the ground. Last hit spikes.

Grab: Bandana Dee grabs a nearby opponent.

Pummel: Bandana Dee zaps the grabbed opponent with energy beams.

Forward throw: Bandana Dee shoots his opponent off with a flurry of energy.

Back throw: Bandana Dee flips backwards and smashes the grabbed opponent the ground, sending them backward and throwing his spear at them shortly afterwards. Weaker than Kirby’s.

Up throw: Bandana Dee bounces the opponent off his parasol, and tosses them up.

Down throw: Bandana Dee twirls his spear downwards, then performs a downward thrust.

Floor attack: Bandana Dee kicks one leg out, gets up, and kicks the other out. (I admittedly copied that directly from the moveset in the OP because I couldn’t think of a floor attack)

Ledge attack: Bandana Dee gets up and delivers a small poke with the end of the spear. (See above)

Neutral special - Beam whip / Wave Beam: A line of energy appears and goes from about a 45 degree angle above Bandana Dee to the same angle below him, which stuns for a few frames. If charged, Bandana Dee fires an energy blast straight forward, which stuns for a longer time.

Side special - Nruff Ride: Bandana Dee whistles to summon a Nruff, which he rides on. He can throw spears while riding on it and jump off its back at will. The Nruff can be destroyed by opponents if it’s been attacked too many times.

Up special - Waddle Copter: Bandana Dee twirls his spear above his head. Anything touching the spinning spear takes damage. When used on the ground, Bandana Dee hovers like a helicopter for a short time period before falling helpless. When performed in midair, Bandana Dee simply leaps upwards. Midair version deals more damage.

Down special - Parasol Drill / Parasol Dive: Bandana Dee opens his spear and twirls it with two energy beams in front of him. When used on the ground, Bandana Dee dashes across the platform as he thrusts his spear forward. If performed in midair, Bandana Dee thrusts his parasol downwards at an angle, and he dives in the same direction.

Final Smash - Megaton Punch: Pressing the B button will bring down two cement blocks where Bandana Dee stood, and if anyone gets hit by them, they get popped out and land prone on top of the blocks. From there, 3 precise button presses are required to power up - one right as the oscillating meter fills, then right when 2 reticles cross over each other, then finally when a swinging pendulum is lined up with the green circle. With all 3 inputs complete, Bandana Dee leaps up and splits the cement blocks with an earth shaking punch and send anyone stuck on them flying. The more precise the inputs are, the more damage and knockback the punch deals. Landing all 3 perfectly results in a OHKO, and the view changes into a long shot of the stage cracking as the opponent is sent flying into the background.

Taunt 1: Bandana Dee turns towards the screen and waves his right hand.

Taunt 2: Bandana Dee spins his spear behind and in front of himself.

Taunt 3: Kirby’s panic animation from Kirby’s adventure.

Victory animation 1: Bandana Dee performs the classic dance and winks at the end.

Victory animation 2: Spins his spear above his head and then pins it to the ground as he happily looks at the screen.

Victory animation 3: Rides on a Nruff while raising his spear triumphantly until he gets thrown off it, and lands on his face.

Victory theme: Champion - The Arena (Kirby Super Star)

Palette Swaps:

And the winner is Garchomp. Kind of called that one since this Pokemon is notorious in tournaments. Weavile came pretty close and so did Croagunk, but that Abomasnow just wanted to stay put with its roots.

Next up is without a doubt the last Gen 4 poll. There is one Legendary and two Pokemon with Mega Evolutions. Your picks are Darkrai, Gallade, Lopunny, and Electrivire.

There was a problem fetching the tweet

Let's see if Gardevior's stronger male counterpart will live up to the hype.

I am not that familiar with Bandana Dee, although I do know of him.

You have made a solid moveset. I especially like how you used normal 'A' attacks like neutral air and Up Smash that demonstrate qualities usually found in special moves.

The side special including a mount with the ability to throw spears is pure fun. The rest of the moves are varied enough, seem loyal to the game, and build a workable fighter with a viable playstyle.

(Please don't give me any **** for leaving some bits of the original color there or for using an official art for the Sailor Dee palette swap, I got tired)
I'd like to know your thoughts! I already posted it on his support thread, but I'd like to hear more opinions.
It's very well done, I like it. I especially like the choice to add in a few Beam moves too, that's something I'd appreciate in his actual Smash moveset, and I'll be disappointed if he doesn't get something like this. Good job~

Some dude just told me on Twitter that Nintendo's SpaceWorld is supposed to come back in 2018.

He says it's supposed to happen in September. It's apparently going to be a 2 day long experience, instead of the 1 day that was used way back when. He also claims that they're considering dropping out of E3 next year to focus on SpaceWorld. They don't have a plan where they are holding the show but they want to find a place large enough to hold 50,000 people comfortably. They also plan on showing a direct the day before. And last but not least they want to debut Pokémon Switch, Paper Mario Switch, the new Zelda (2D), and the first gameplay of Metroid Prime 4. He also said that he wasn't told any other games besides those from his 'source' but that GameCube fans will be really really happy. Virtual Console probably. He also says that this plan for SpaceWorld is in early discussion so minute details will change most likely but he says he is 'confident' that SpaceWorld is absolutely happening.

I saved the best for last. He said that the new Smash Bros. will be revealed there. He said it's being fully developed by Namco with some input from Sakurai. AND he said that the big 3rd party character floating around right now is... Crash Bandicoot...

So, here's the thing. I don't really trust this guy. He usually throws out a 'leak' that is pretty wide. Some of his true-ish leaks were 'Nintendo-Ubisoft crossover'(that was well before Laura Kate Dale I might add), and that 'Super Mario Universe' would have a city as it's hub world(which isn't really true but kinda, and he got the name really wrong). This is the first time he's ever been this specific. I dunno if he's straight pulling this out of his *** or if he actually has info.

Either way it's something to discuss. Especially that Crash Bandicoot thing. That's pretty interesting.
i know this post is extremely old but i'm honestly interested on more details about this. Was it eventually deconfirmed?
