Is that a reference to something?
Indeed. Let me get the thread's link and quote Falco.

EDIT:
Here it is, took me a while. Internet effed up for a moment.

****it Teran, marry me.

I didn't really see this as a thread where he sincerely gave a **** what he thought, just wanted to toss out some thoughts. You know what kind of people really give a ****? The ones that complain but like every other sentence are like I DON'T CARE WHAT OTHERS THINK ABOUT ME I'MMAH JUST GET REAL BUTTHURT WHEN PEOPLE CHALLENGE ME. And these people usually say **** like "I love how people hate me/are mean to me for no reason".

Yes, if you are reading this and recall saying stuff like that, why yes, I AM CALLING YOU OUT, AND I DO ****ING HATE YOU.

Christ, this thread is still going?

It's an illuminative term, not a derisive one. When someone says "vBrawl" it's because they want to make sure you know they're talking about standard Brawl without typing out "standard," not because they're secretly mocking Brawl and laughing behind your back for playing the silly version for little girls. Would you prefer oBrawl? sBrawl? Using just "Brawl" in the middle of a conversation about Brawl+ or BBrawl is just asking for misinterpretation.

Not really. If you mean Brawl, call it Brawl. If you mean Brawl+, call it Brawl+. if you mean BBrawl, call it BBrawl. Where's the misunderstanding?

Because when I talk to my friends and I want to play Brawl+ because we are a Brawl+ community I normally say "Brawl" and they all know what I mean.

That is because Brawl+ is the new Brawl to us. We refer to Brawl as vBrawl if we want to play without booting our Brawl+.

If I were to say Brawl, and I meant vBrawl - we'd get confused.

What's the big deal with your paranoia?
Where's the misunderstanding? Vanilla Brawl, vBrawl... doesn't mean that Brawl sucks.
And some earlier posts said that if you were to take it so seriously...

Call it Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Yeah, SSBB. Why?
Because: To me, it would sound like you are ashamed of saying it is part of the SSB series! I'm so offended !

In any case, let's end here. Paranoia, paranoiaa...

What's there to be paranoid of? It's silly adding a prefix to the original.

You really cannot see the room for misunderstanding in saying "Brawl" without any clarification in a conversation about a modification that has the same name?

Because not everyone plays standard Brawl over the hacks?

No one EVER said that you have to use it, it's never a problem if someone has a personal preference, but it becomes a problem when people get anal telling others they can't.

That's called elitism.

Like that guy that got laughed out of his own thread when he told everyone not to swear.

Or Maxfire when he told everyone not to lie about their personal information.

You're calling me elitest? Never thought I'd see the day.
Do you mean that in a "YOU'RE calling ME elitist?" way or an "I'm being called an elitist?" way?

If it's the former, I take umbrage to that and I don't see how I'm elitist. I don't ask other people to live the way I do.

If it's the latter, you certainly seem so. You're telling people to stop calling it vBrawl because YOU find it offensive, yet no one means it offensively. Also, you totally avoided replying to the rest of my post, and that was not the main idea or point of it.

Whichever one of these it wasn't, ignore.

It has been used in a derogatory way before, I've seen it with my very eyes.
Regardless, you are still right, but you can't deny that vBrawl carries some negative connotations.

People will use "gay" in derogatory ways too, but that doesn't mean the word is always derogatory.

I deny that it carries negative connotations, because the majority of the community doesn't refer to it that way maliciously and this is to the majority of the community.

Just because something CAN be derogatory doesn't mean it always is.

In any case, here's the ultimate question:

Why does it matter if people ARE referring to it in a negative way? People dislike Brawl, it's not really outside their rights to express that. You can dislike it, but you can't really tell people to stop.

If you really love the game and disapprove of that, just write them off as trolls and ignore everyone who calls it vBrawl. *Shrug* I don't know what else to tell you.
