Honestly, I would take Meowth over Jigglypuff any day. He's has had constant appearances in the anime, way more than Jigglypuff.
He seems like he would be a mix of Metaknight and Diddy Kong. small and nimble with slashy multiple hit claw attacks.

Definitely agree with you here, but since a year ago Jigglypuff became one of my mains and I realized just how fun she is to play as. I wouldn't be able to decide between them. In an ideal world, I'd like Meowth and Mewtwo as new Pokemon reps, but then it'd become almost entirely Gen 1, which would lack variety. I sure think Meowth would have a fun playstyle though.

Unless he pulls another WFT, anyway. Then the "4 criteria" can go **** themselves in the ***.
The Wii Fit Trainer fit the four criteria. Do you even know what the four criteria are=???

Seriously, am I the only one expecting another completely random character like that? It probably won't even be revealed. It'll be a secret and turn out to be the final character we have to unlock. XD
I doubt we'll get a character to come anywhere in the same area code as the Wii Fit Trainer, but yes, a very much less than expected character or two is to be expected. In Brawl, we had no less than 3 (Snake, the Pokémon Trainer, and ROB), 5 if you count all of the Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon.

Most of the other picks were conventional picks (Pit, Meta Knight, Toon Link, Ike) and popular picks (Sonic, Wario, Diddy, and Ike).

I actually really would like Lucario to stay with gaining Mewtwo. It would be an interesting match to say the least.

My pipe dream want for a new pokemon character is still Blaziken haha.

If not Meowth alone, then perhaps Meowth paired with Arbok and Weezing would be pretty unique. It's like a cross between Pokemon Trainer (switch Poison-type Pokemon via Down B) and Ice Climbers (Meowth is the Popo of the team). Personally I think it is more interesting than the idea of two Pikachu clones working as a team (Plusle & Minun). And I really think a lot of people would love the idea of Team Rocket in Smash. I believe that even though the vocal Smash fans want Mewtwo, the silent majority secretly want Meowth and/or Team Rocket in Smash because of the anime and Pokemon Yellow (Pikachu vs. Meowth, Pokemon Trainer vs. Team Rocket).

What=??? Why=??? Jigglypuff (along with Ness) was the most unique character in Smash 64, and has one of the best movesets in smash ever.

As good as Meowth could be, I doubt he would ever compare to how good Jigglypuff was in Melee, and doubtfully as good as Jigglypuff was in Smash 64.

I like most of the Pokemon choices. Pichu, Mewtwo, Zoroark, Genesect, Newtwo, Meowth, Deoxys, Gardevior, New PT, ect. Too bad I have a feeliing Mewtwo may be the only Pokemon added this time around. And, we may very well have Lucario/PT cut.

Yeah if that's all we get then I don't really find the pokemon section very exciting in my opinion. I mean getting Mewtwo back is great as he was my favourite Melee character but still... I'd like to see at least one new face for the Pokemon series....

INB4 Mewtwo's Awakened form...

It's not that they're "smart or logical"
Very very few gamers can afford the time and money to purchase and play both consoles.
Most people were (and are) financially subjected to purchasing one gaming console per generation
I know this is true nowadays, but a good 10 to 13 years ago, this definitely didn't seem like the case.

But regardless of that...I must live in areas with some pretty fortunate people, then. Pretty much all of us get every system. XD

Though none of us are getting the Xbone this time around.

Wait for Nintendo to buy out SEGA; then things will get really crazy, and all semblances of that will die!
I honestly wouldn't mind, or would even be happy if Sega did become a full part of Nintendo and Sonic went over to them. Hell, I'd go as far as to say I'd like to see the same for Megaman. Miyamoto and Sakurai have both mentioned in the past that they'd love to have a chance to work on a Sonic game before, anyway. XD

But I know I'm in a huge minority with that mindset. (loloxymoron)

Honestly, I would take Meowth over Jigglypuff any day.
YES.

Though specifically Team Rocket's Meowth.

Funny, I always hated History class. Sure it was easy, but it was boring as hell. XD
It is still very important.
Don't like or care much about retro things either if it isn't something I experienced back in that time.
You do realize you are from "back in that time" to some time. Therefore, you are retro, unless you are like under the age of 15.

The only ones we know for certain are Dedede-Daioh, Myuutsu, and Kuppa-Daioh. Urofu MIGHT have been another character based off some theories.

Not at all, games were as, if not more, expensive back then.
Cartridges cost a lot to make, so the price of videogames was pretty high. (around 60-70 bucks)

Yea, all of you must be pretty well-off.

Actually, I just saw that you said 10-13 years ago, meaning around the beginning of the 6th console gen; but I still stand by what I said.

Point is, console wars happen because not everyone is rich and can afford everything they want.

I read on the Smash Wiki that Meowth was planned for Smash 64, but was cut due to time constraints.

I wouldn't know where else I could find such info though.

There was never anything that stated Pit, Peach, and Meowth were planned for Super Smash Bros.

However, there is the implications that Pit was briefly considered for Melee, if the fiasco regarding to the Ice Climbers and wanting a character that represented the NES is taken into consideration. Along with pretty much any other characters that debuted on the NES.

I never read anything about Pit being in Smash 64. I remeber something about Dedede, Bowser, Peach, and Meowth. That's it.

Data in Brawl also implies Plusle and Minun were planned as a tag team character like the Ice Climbers.

Well that is all from a unknown competitive standpoint, since we don't know what Meowth's moveset was going to be, nor the properties of his attacks. In terms of character uniqueness;
If Meowth hypothetically DID make it into 64 like he supposedly was, and he had quick multi-hit claw attacks with nimble mobility, he would be pretty unique as Metaknight nor Diddy Kong wouldn't be around till Brawl to compare him too

No one will ever know what the heck pra_mai was.
My Player.

If that is indeed the intended translation, then that might suggest at some point in development there might of been plans of an original character that would of had customization as it's main gimmick. If I had to make comparisons to this, something along the lines of the My Unit feature used in the Fire Emblem games.

"if it isn't something I experienced back then."

You're talking to a person who had never heard of Metroid, F-Zero or Earthbound until Smash 64 and didn't know that Link from Zelda even had a name at the time. (Though I was one of the few people that didn't call him "Zelda". I figured he was just like the Pokemon game characters. No actual names, you just give them one yourself. That was my thoughts of them as a kid, anyway.)

Then again, I also had never played a Zelda game before in my life, and as such, had no idea who the **** Ganondorf was when I unlocked him in Melee. XD (Along with a good number of other people who showed up in Melee)

Later, I would look up and constantly read the entire history and mythos behind every Zelda game as they came out over time and watch gameplay videos of them to learn every nook and cranny I could. Why? Boredom and curiosity.

Now I know pretty much all there is available to learn about Zelda...and still haven't played a single damn game in the franchise. ¦D (Except for a tiny bit of Skyward Sword. Still gotta finish that)

tl;dr I never played majority of the retro games people fangasm about. XD

Was never planned for either of those games as far as sources tell us.
It has been alleged by some sources that Meowth was thought of/considered for Smash 64, but nothing official or concrete like what was up with King Dedede, Charizard, Mewtwo, Peach, Pit Bowser, Lucas, and Wolf rumors, talks, and grumblings. Also, the fact that all of those characters I just mentioned have been playable in smash whereas Meowth has not is a big thing (although Mach Rider, the Balloon Fighter, Urban Champion, Sukapon, and Bubbles [Clu-Clu Land] were all considered for Melee).

@ Moon
Even so, Meowth could do that for a few moves, but it would be repetitive, just like most of the smash 64 movesets (hence why I refer to those characters as "clones"), which is why everything was changed with those characters. The real interesting thing would be to see how Meowth has evolved since then.

I think we should get more Pokéball Pokémon from Gen III. I can't think of a great playable character choice. Blaze-chicken is too generic, Deoxys (as much as I like it) doesn't work well, and really, the only decent choice I can think of it is Plusle and Minun.
No one will ever know what the heck pra_mai was.
Judging by how Dixie/Diddy was almost a thing, I still think it was Plusle and Minun, and I still think that idea is the best Pokémon newcomer idea.

pra

"p(u)rasu" = Japanese engrish "Plus"

mai

"mainasu" = Japanese engrish "Minus"

"P(u)rasaru_Mainumu" = "Plusle_Minum"

And that's basically everyone's logic on it being Plusle and Minum.

ENGRISH! How glorius! =D

We aren't rich. We just save up and buy things when we have the chance. o.o'

I don't get all my consoles all at the same time or as soon as they come out. That'd kill my wallet and savings. XD

My Player? Maybe it was the Villager. The Animal Crossing main character is your avatar.

Except Ice Climbers have files for both Popo and Nana while this only had one.

I kinda want Breloom. :chuckle:

Grass/Fighting type could be interesting, and coupled with his fighting style (using stretchy punches to fling a shot long-distance), I think he could be a really fun character.

I didn't know of Fire Emblem or EarthBound until smash. I also thought Link's name was Zelda!

Also, I didn't know Metroid was owned by Nintendo until Smash 64, and I didn't know Mega Man wasn't owned by Nintendo until like 2000!
Should have used Chaos Control
False, Metal Sonic is the best.

The only thing I can think of for a Gen III rep is a different version of the Pokemon Trainer. Mudkip, Grovyle, and Blaziken are pretty popular characters, so that could work well. Plusle and Minun can be interesting, but to be honest I think it'd be best to represent as many types as possible.

Grovyle is popular mainly due to Mystery Dungeon. I support him, it'd be interesting fighting as a grass type with a more humanoid body type. (he doesn't stand on all fours like Ivysaur)
