Villager might just be one of the nastiest edge guarders in the game!
Assuming that his tree planting move is his down special, and that it matures over time on the stage to be later interacted with and chopped down:
*plants tree close to the edge of stage*
*grabs ledge*

You can't grab the ledge and you have to make it over the tree to land on stage...that would be CRAZY!

I mean, I think he seriously will be... remember the footage of him dropping a freakin' bowling ball off a cliff onto someone? I constantly wanted Snake's forward Smash to actually launch a missile, but nooo, only Villagers get to do that...

I do question what is exactly hindering the development of the 3DS version. I know for a fact that it cannot be memory, and the processing power is at least on the par with the Wii, so what's the excuse?

Probably it's memory infrastructure and how it runs is totally different from the disc-based gaming that Namco Bandai is used to.

Looks like I have a reason to keep my Wii hooked up, and probably go back to Melee and Brawl after Smash 4 is released. Hopefully, they add Mewtwo and Roy to Project M that way I get the definitive home console Smash Bros.

Smash 4 will be nice as a handheld Smash Bros., and it will be really great if Ridley is added in (he better be).

That's not going to happen. Because the hack is supposed to be maintenance friendly (i.e. doesn't require any fancy toys), editing characters is not an option. Brawl's cast is the only thing being worked on, anything else you'll have to look for separate hacks for.

My main concern right now is about the Ice Climbers but, then again, would Sakurai specifically mention them by name if he intended to cut them and would he also be willing to get rid of a unique character that has already been present in two games and represents its own franchise?

I'm not sure what he means to be honest. I have to be skeptical because look at Smash's past; we have Peach's Daisy costume, a certain Captain Falcon, Dark Link and even more importantly Wario has two totally distinct designs.

My inquiry about Namco Bandai characters did lead Sakurai to ask me a question in return - if I had to pick one character, which Namco Bandai character would I want in Super Smash Bros.? The answer seemed obvious to me - the original arcade version of Pac-Man. Sakurai then asked me what a Final Smash might look like for that, and we started to discuss how how Pac-Man could become super-powered, and chase other characters around a stage, attempting to eat them. It was a surreal discussion to say the least, but shows that Sakurai is always contemplating what else he might add to his projects, packing them full of as much content as possible.

Rich George may have just decided our Namco rep.

I just find it bizarre he got characters like Wii Fit Trainer and Villager right, yet the other half of characters were a no show. I think they were pulled from being unveiled at the last minute.

If that's true, then meh. I like to believe that the leaker knew about the first three and just added a few more characters in to shake up things.

Really doubt Jigglypuff will be cut. I think she is grandfathered in at this point for being in every installment to the franchise. At worst, she may be the last veteran added into the game.

Interesting. So the rumour was total coincidence, perhaps. Also I love the end of the article; very good-natured, friendly typically Nintendo rep approach to things.

I fail to see how that is a disconfirmation.
All he pretty much said is that a Namco character won't get in just because Namco is working on the game, and that guests have to be special.
And then goes off to say the same exact things he said when discussing about how a Capcom character is "not outside the realm of possibility".

Until he flat out says something like "there will be no Namco characters period", can't count out Pac-Man yet. It didn't disconfirm Mega Man, after all.

Really, there is no good choice for a Namco character. Pac-Man is probably the least bad of an awful lot.

The only third-party newcomer I think most Smash Bros. fans cared about was Mega Man.

Sakurai talking about how third-party characters are special cases makes me think that the hurdle for any character getting in is extremely high and Sakurai only picks the cream of the crop as far as guests go.

No special priority does not equal deconfirmed.

Besides, the rumor all but confirms Pac-Man, and Pac-Man was always going to be heavily considered due to his historic status.

I think he just deconfirmed stuff like playing as Marth with a Roy skin. I didn't catch the alternate costume quote yet, though.
