Aren't they doing that with the new starters?

Fire/Physic, Water/Fighting, Grass/Dark

That way the Fire and Water starters are weak to each other. A little confusing, but cool.
Are they? Did they reveal the secondary types for the starters yet?

Anyway, as long as they're secondary types I think it's a great idea. That way you can actually teach kids about some of the more advanced types.

The Fire starter and Grass starter also become weak to each other.

That'd be complicated to write, but it would be incredibly awesome.

Even better if you have to catch your starter, so that way it isn't anything 'special.'

I normally box starters these days anyway.
It'd take more time, but it'd add even more replay value to the game. Perhaps yield exclusive post-game significance depending on where you originated as well.

Also it'd be fun to start with a Dragon, though that's perhaps asking for too much.

It's not revealed, it's just rumored.

And it's a rumor that changed. Originally it was Water/ Dark, Grass/ Fighting, Fire/ Psychic

Wasn't the go-to "OMG let's change the starter types" Dark-Psychic-Fighting for a long time? In any case, I doubt Game Freak would change up the primary types for the starters. Grass-Water-Fire is the go-to arrangement because it's something young children can easily figure out(Fire burns Grass, Grass absorbs Water, Water douses Fire). Now try getting a little kid to figure out on their own that martial arts is super effective against shadows.
What shadows? Dark is called Evil in Japan. It's Dirty Fighting, and regular Fighting is honorable. It's only confusing in other regions. Also the shadow-style attacks are often left to the Ghosts and their moves(via the type). This is shown pretty well. Evil thoughts, corruption, stealing things, they fall quite well under Dark.

Because In America. :awesome:

From now on, you must replace the word "Hell" with "heel" as your personal quirk. It makes you more endearing as a character.

So get used to saying things such as:

"Heel yeah!"

or

"What the heel?!"
Didn't you tell me a long time ago that mine should be adding "O" to the start of each of my sentences?

Okay... We need a topic...

Since we were kinda on a Pokemon kick, I'll bring up a different approach to the idea of Pokemon reps.

Which Pokemon would you hate to see in the games for personal reasons, but know would have a cool playstyle?

If the fire fox starter evolves into anything but fire/fighting, it is because of this...

No Wonderful 101 characters for SSB4, huh?
I doubt it.
I mean if Olimar (A first party mind you) didn't make it into Melee despite both titles being in development at the same time, I doubt the Wonderful 101 will make it into SSB4.
Granted there is much more of a release gap between SSB4 and W101 then there was Pikmin and Melee, but for all we know the roster could be locked down right now.
Also Sakurai has already said if a character isn't a Nintendo character their chances of making it into the roster is hard enough as it is.
Watch me eat my words.

You are right, Moon Monkey. It's just too new. At least Shulk's game was already out for 2 years now.

I had a dream I was playing Smash Bros. 4 with Mr. Sakurai in my room. We were playing on this Metroid inspired level with rising lava, but the stage was... progressive (if that's the right word). Like Icicle Mountain and Rumble Falls. And Samus was a ***** to fight against- faster, strong... Really good.

Yeah, just a dream. Oh, and Sakurai's Engrish wasn't too bad. I felt like I've known him personally for so long... :(

Too early to be having dreams.

@Arcadenik
I'd love a W101 rep, but I'm somewhat doubting it. If they were to reveal a W101 character, it would probably have to be next month in September unless they hold off on new comers being revealed so early sans Villager, Megaman and WFT.

If Wonder Red isn't in it initially... DLC.

Has anyone else seen the eShop lately? (3Ds)
They have Smash Bros. marked under "Future Releases," alongside Lost World, X and Y, and A Link Between Worlds.

Probably nothing, but I find it interesting that they have Smash there with titles that are going to be released as soon as October.
*tries not to get hopes up for a January release*
*fails*

Smash dreams are the worst...
I had a dream that I won a contest to be 1 out of 5 people in the world (on some Willy Wonka type **** :rotfl:) to fly out to Japan and see SSB4 in it's early stages and recommend 1 character. But in order to recommend a character you would have to beat Sakurai in a 1v1 match with items. I was Yoshi and he picked Metaknight, and I was about to win when an exploding container appeared in front of me and ignited killing me. I then woke up... I to this day am trying to force myself to dream up a sequel and have my rematch...

Is there a SSB4 Dream Thread!? if not I'm totally making one I'm interested in seeing what other people smash dreams are like.

I once had a dream I was playing as Sheik as normal. But then she suddenly became Impa. What a nightmare. :troll:

But seriously, I do remember an odd one playing Sonic Battle... that had Mario in it. I mean, you can make a pretty decent version of Mario color-wise and with even a similar projectile(to his SSB incarnation), if not near identical to a degree. Only problem is all the Dash attacks suck. He has Shadow Slider, which is basically skidding on the ground, having sparks fly at your opponent, but eh. Still pretty good.

So here was something from the ruleset about items from everyone's favorite poster, El Duderino.
You know what I'm sick of hearing with the whole item debate? The belief that after 3 games we just haven't experimented enough to reach some new enlightenment on the subject. Yes, like Brawl was, Smash 4 will be a new game, but by now all of us should have a good grasp of the mainstay items:

We know how they work, how they factor into match outcomes, and in the worst cases, how they can be abused, heal, or relating to containers, spawn mid attack and explode. Before we even begin to get into the random factor there are a number of issues the items themselves present. It all gets swept under the rug though whenever people choose to instead argue for their competitive potential. That is a whole separate topic for another day that does not address why they are banned or how the scene came to the current rules over time.

Realistically, Smash 4 would have to introduce more ways to balance to the item equation for them to go anywhere with the tournament scene.
I think he hit the nail on the head as to what the real issue is with items - they are simply not balanced and have never been. What do you think should be done as how to balance these? For added challenge, you cannot use RNG to justify balance and that strategy must be somewhat extensive.

Well judging from the X Bomb, I don't think item balance will be any better.

I think the only real way to make items seem more balanced would be to enable a mode where items flash for ~10 seconds where they are going to spawn so each player has ample time to get to the area and fight for the soon-to-spawn item. Also, nobody could rightfully complain that an explosive capsule spawned right in the middle of their attack.

Also, blue shells could actually be a really fun item for some games. It would home in on the winning player and it would explode when it comes in contact with them, but it would have very loose homing so the winner could actually use it to hit other players if they keep dodging it successfully. And, hey, they can try to shield and dodge to avoid some of the explosion damage, maybe.

You're kidding me right...?

Those emotional Pokemon battles?
Ash turning to stone?
Meowth and the clone Meowth having that heart to heart?
That whole Mewtwo philosophy bomb shell at the end?

מִלה אחי, we are on the same page.
I've seen maybe like 2 or 3 Pokemon I think the first one is one of the better ones from a philosophical stand point.
The Latios/Latias one would be the close second for me.

Not to mention the sweet holographic Mewtwo Pokemon card you got. :awesome:
(Oh and the Hebrew up top translates to achi or "my brother")

See, there's the problem.
LOL!
Team Plasma kinda touches on deeper matters as well, like questioning if we are we enslaving pokemon/wild creatures for our own entertainment.

This reminds of the time when someone told me Rugrats was a social commentary on minorities surviving in America :rotfl:. I can only imagine the things we can take out of our TV shows and games.

Sounds like a pretty good idea actually. I mean, items already have a very short little particle effect thing that "drops" them out of no where. Just make that effect last a few seconds and you have a clear indicator of where an item is going to appear.

I would expect Sakurai to have fun with it though, lol. Usually more powerful items might take longer to drop than others, but on occasion after waiting so (relatively) long, some dud of an item might appear instead, lol. Then competitive player tears would be restored once more.
