Because people want Pokémon Trainer not Pokémon Trainer. If you replace Pokémon Trainer with Pokémon Trainer instead of Pokémon Trainer, people will get upset. Nobody likes Pokémon Trainer.

How is Pokemon Trainer not Red? He's definitely Red, and what design a character has definitely has significance. For one thing, his design isn't similar to Red, it's straight up identical to his design from the remake games. Just because his name and the trophy description are talking about trainer's in general doesn't change the fact that the specific trainer you're playing as is Red. If Samus's name were changed to "bounty hunter", and her trophy description was about bounty hunters in general, that doesn't change the fact that she is undoubtedly Samus. Yes Pokemon Trainer is there to represent trainers as a whole and that's reflected in the name being generic, but the trainer that's there serving as a representation of all trainers is Red. Now that doesn't mean the Pokemon Trainer HAS to be Red and if they swap out Red for a different trainer in the next game that won't be Red, but the trainer in Brawl? That's Red.

So, you see... it doesn't matter if we cut Pokémon Trainer and replaced him with Pokémon Trainer because Pokémon Trainer is still in the game.

I am going to take a random guess and say the next character reveal will either be on August 9th or August 16th and that it will be a veteran not a new comer. If I was to guess exactly what veteran then I would probably go with either of these:

Wario
Ike
Lucas
Yoshi
Ice Climbers

I was kinda close I guess. Anyway yay for Luigi. Now there is only 4 white boxes left to be filled up in terms of characters. If I was to guess what characters would take up the slots then it would be:

Pokemon series (either a veteran or newcomer)

Donkey Kong rep (diddy kong)

Mario series (Peach)

Zelda series (toon link)

This is a quick guess and I sure as hell know it won't be accurate since sakurai mind games me hard.

Link not being a heavyweight means his attacks will be faster, his movement speed will be faster, his recovery will probably be better (especially if we get the Melee tether system back where blocking tether recoveries isn't so freaking easy), and heck, he might actually have combos.

Link in his franchise has always had lots of deceptive speed and little power, so this all makes perfect sense to do IMO.

Well yeah it would represent him a little better. But how much you think he should weight? His weight has always been the same, in any Smash game. Perhaps this made him easier to combo than others, but I'm not sure if they'll change it. Your ideas are good, however from what we've seen, will this really happen? I always wanted Link to have extreme buffs ever since Brawl. So don't get me wrong.

What I mostly hope to see is a huge revamp on the Bow. Make it aimable like the Cracker Launcher, or Bowser and Charizard's flamebreaths. Make it semi-spamable, like it should. And make his Spin Attack come out a lot faster, and give it FAR more priority. I'm also for the idea of it being equally strong everywhere during the whole animation where Link does the Spin Attack, much like in the Zelda games. My dreams of an aerial vertical Spin Attack are now gone forever, though it would still be wicked if they had such a move still for Link somehow. Perhaps a new Down or Up Smash?

Anyway, I'll totally co-main Link if he's somewhat decent this time.
