Characters are now color-coded when sent flying by who launched them. Interesting concept, but seems like it'd get annoying really fast.

Ridley's colors will be so big it will cover the whole screen, go off the screen, and cover the universe in purple.

It's by who sent them flying. Characters don't get individual colors; it's the player color. Samus was launched by the Player 1 character (Red) and Link was launched by the Player 4 character (Green).

This is done to show who is getting the KO point if the launch character is KOed.

Interesting change... Now the launch trails are colored depending on who launched them. I'd assume if a character is hit by a stage obstacle, the trail will be uncolored like the previous games.

According to Sakurai's quote the point of the colors is to make it clear who gets the point in the case of a KO, so for team battles team members might just have identical streaks(since they share kills).
