Man oh man. I still play it. I love this game to no end. Spent countless hours on it. I can't remember all of what the kings get turned into though, haha.

SMB3 did not let me down when I first picked it up. One of the best games the NES had to offer. I have terrible luck in the toad houses and always get a mushroom.

My first true mario 2D platformer. Nothing screams fun like two dimensions of Old school platforming riggor.

I remember playing this game sometimes just for different suits mario can wear in certain levels. Hammer bros suit, full body raccoon suit and frog suit were my absolute faves! =D

I never enjoyed 2. Not only is it a ripoff, but it wasn't really fun to begin with and just didn't belong.

Calling it a ripoff doesn't do the word "ripoff" justice. It was very much a straight sprite swap. That said, I still enjoyed the gameplay, just not as a Mario game.

SMB3 had an awesome soundtrack and the map was great.
It was pretty challenging, not as challenging as the first.
SMB2 was great also, but I really wasn't feeling it. It sorta bored me, but it was a fun game and a classic nonetheless.

I love 2 more than most people, I actually like it much better than the original game, and the Japanese SMB2 (Lost Levels) ,but 3 is just straight up one of the greatest platformers/games ever.

<33333333 the original, this is obviously the nostalgia talking though. I tried a speed-run once but failed =/

I loved the 3rd! The costumes were so much fun!

2 was very good, I need to finish it though.

The third was amazing. I usually end up playing it all night with my family when we have some visiting. It's interesting to watch us play past world 4, since most of us only have the short warp route memorized, and past world 4 the levels can get difficult. World 7 is hellish.

No. 3 was the best because of the Hammer Suit!

The lost levels were extremely challenging. Only beat those recently.

Anyone know why they weren't released in America?

I don't know, but I saw on the Mario wiki that it was too similar to the first but with increased difficulty, not sure though.

I tried it like a couple of years ago, it was hard @_@
I haven't beaten it and I keep forgetting to beat it.

Savestates.

I can't do it without those lifesavers.

Just some advice.

Super Mario Bros Lost Levels will always be the hardest Mario game to me. Dx

Anyone know why Nintendo stop selling E-Reader cards for Super Mario Advance 4.

I used to find the Lost Levels very hard. Now I can run through the entire game, no warps, in maybe 2 hours tops. I find the Lost Levels easier if you speed through the levels instead of taking them too carefully.

As a result, I end up playing through most of the game small, never stopping to pick up mushrooms or anything.

I guess the E-Readers wasn't selling well, they did stop selling them around the time SMA4 came out. However, the E-Reader levels all came out in Japan, which raises more questions.

Then don't try doing a 100% run on Yoshi's Island DS *shudders at the difficulty, and I like difficult games*. Man both of those games are so critical.

E-reader was discontinued just months after SMA4 came out.

Japan got twice as many cards for SMB3, including 10 levels, and a special powerup you could use anywhere.

As much as I enjoy 100% runs, YIDS was just tedious. The things you could "collect" had no effect on the game and didn't make the game more enjoyable at all. At least in games like sunshine/galaxy/64 when you collect starts/sprites you get to enjoy new levels or get rewarded. That just wasn't true for YIDS.

Right, especially the extra level with the rising lava, that one is practically impossible to do in time! They really needed more bonuses.

SMA3 Yoshi's Island's Endless World of Yoshis level was actually easier for me to do 100% on, and that level takes over thirty minutes to traverse. 0_o

I attempted a speed run of Super Mario Bros. 3 yesterday, taking the shortest route possible - World 1-1/2/3/Fortress, use the Two Warp Whistles, and all of World 8 (assuming all the hand traps get you). I clocked in at 17 minutes, 51 seconds, going through the map included. It was the most fun I had with the game in a good while.

I may try to do a speed run without the massive Warp Zone shortcut - just go through all 8 Worlds - next time. See if I can beat it in 3 hours, lol.

Has anyone else tried a speed run with SMB3 (or 1 and 2)?

Dang, it usually takes me an hour to get through World 8 due to the Fort and the ice maze.

Ice maze?

Bowser's Castle wasn't much of a problem for me. World 8-1 and the World 8 Fortress are another story.

World 7 is harder than World 8 for me. Not sure why. I hate World 7 so much.
Aww, I love World 7 - my third favorite in the game after Ice World and Giant World. It was a very cool concept, even though it was obvious that the developers would eventually use that quirk some day.

@ the pictures in the first post, I hate myself for just now noticing that Mario's colors are inverted in the SMB2 boxart.

Pipe World pwns. Period.

Especially when they give a Tanooki suit at the Fortress instead of a bland Super Leaf.

Also has a lot of levels where the Hammer Suit is highly recommended.
Fortress 2, I'm looking at you.

Speaking of fortresses, remember the seemingly never-ending fortress in Dark World? I used to use a cloud over that every time I played the game.

SMB3 was just fantastic, better than its predecessors IMO.

I used to always have to cloud over that level as well.

Then I finally figured out the exit after a couple time outs, and never had to do it again.

The fortress is still a *****, though.

What I found funny about the two mazes in World 8 is that they both have hidden 1-ups, so you can keep dying from time outs over and over again till you find the exit.

I actually beat that fortress very easily on my first try. So my friends were asking me how to beat it. Awesome.

Tank fights need to be brought back. NAO.

I watched some of the E-Card levels from Advance 4 (I think) on Youtube. They're amazing, it's like the Lost Levels of SMB3. I want them. :(

Edit: Me playing SMB!

I've done better, though. I'm getting frame skip on my computer and it bothers me. If I lower quality anymore though it'll be kinda...odd to look at. I'll try again to see if I can get rid of frame skip later, I usually don't mess up that much. XD

1 was my first game (as it is probably a lot of peoples first game). I have not beaten it to this day. I don't know what makes me so bad at it, I just am. My dad is the only person I know to have beaten the game, in fact.

2 actually impressed me to. Though I didn't play it as much as the others, the times I did play it I had lots of fun. I think I preferred Mario out of all of them, but other times I would use Luigi for his jump.

And for 3, man that game is amazing. I remember trying to get my dusty old crappy NES to work just to play that game and that game alone (which would sometimes take me up to 15 minutes because it crashed so much). I think I actually for the first time beat the game on the GBA. The game is fun and not really that hard as I remember it (as just Mario). The only level I had trouble with was the castle in the dark cave area of World 8. It was still fun, though. I love the game to death.

Have you guys ever heard the theory that Mario 3 was all just a gigiantic play and never actually happened?

Though I don't think this theory holds much water, seeing as how the sunken ship in SMW is stated to be a sunken airship from SMB3 (unless if World is a play too, lol). (EDIT: maybe it's a sunken airship from NSMB Wii?)

Yeah, I saw the theory. I didn't take it that seriously but it was still pretty awesome how well it relates with an actual play. I wouldn't be surprised though if Nintendo intentionally added a stage show-like design.
