Losing hope again. I’ve basically written off July at this point. And the longer we go without a reveal, the fewer new characters there are likely to be. If we’re two months down with no new characters, and only four to go, that will mean we’re probably only going to get two or three more newcomers total. And King K. Rool is going to be one of them. So Isaac has to compete with Elma, Ashley, Bandana Dee, Dixie, Muh Pokémon rep, Geno, and however many else for only a couple potential spots.

I doubt all the characters shown off leading up to the release will be all that's in the base game. There's bound to be several characters being held close to the development team's chest until post-launch, since there basically always has been

All we can do is have patience. They could be holding off the characters for surprises in the full game.

That or they consider the big blowout of information that was E3 enough information for two months.

Not to inspire false hope where there may not be a reason to, but they could do anything with their newcomer reveals. We don't really have much of a standard to go off of since there's only been 1 official reveal so far.

They could decide to sprinkle out an Echo and a unique newcomer in a standard Nintendo direct during mid-August, then dump out the rest in a Smash direct around November or so in another mass shock reveal. I mean, was anyone really expecting 60+ veterans to show up at E3?

Wouldn't be an overly long wait period (average of 2-2.5 months) while still ending off very close to launch. Plus, secret fighters are a very strong possibility.

We only got two last time.

At this point, I'm thinking we'll get one character in the August quarterly Direct. And maybe two in a November Smash Direct. And I'm thinking that'll be it.

We only got two secret newcomers last time because some veterans were also secret.

It's entirely possible several of the newcomers they've got will be secret and revealed on the website post-launch, particularly if they aren't as likely to stir up hype pre-launch

Yeah, characters like, say: Dixie Kong, B.W. Dee, any Pokémon, Celica, Ashley (in Japan), Elma, Tails, Shadow, Ken, Sephiroth and Simon Belmont are well known to a greater audience or are otherwise contemporary, they are the characters most likely to get trailers.
Outside of their respective fandoms, characters like K, Rool, Isaac and Geno would probably be justified not getting trailers (I mean, they still might, but...).

Those three characters would carry massive amounts of hype for their pretty large fanbases (certainly more than Elma and Celica would for casual fans). It would make no sense to keep them hidden. If we get any characters hidden til release date, it’ll probably be an obscure retro like Ayumi Tachibana or Mike Jones, or maybe an oddball character like Chorus Kids.

Personally, I don’t think there’ll be any surprises come release date. If we only got six newcomers announced for Brawl or 4, people would suspect some are being kept secret. If we only get six announced for this one, though, some people might believe that’s it (given Sakurai’s statements), and be turned off buying the game.

They would carry massive amounts of hype for a certain subset of hardcore Nintendo fans, all the casual fans (who, far, far outnumber them) then go: "Who?"

The casual fans aren't the ones watching Directs.

There's 0 chance a character like K. Rool, Geno, or Isaac gets a trailer skipped. They aren't any more obscure than Little Mac (well... maybe Geno).

On the other hand the hardcore Nintendo fans are, for the most part, going to buy this game regardless of the trailers.

The less dedicated are the ones you can hook with trailers. They may not watch Directs live, but the individual trailers themselves continue to make rounds after the event.

I wouldn't count on anything too big being held back for after launch. Smash 4 taught me that. They want to advertise big new characters, so I'd imagine they'd put fan requests out there prior to release. Someone like Chibi Robo or, if we actually get one, a retro rep might be the only way we see hidden newcomers... Well that or maybe an Echo fighter. As much as I lean towards Isaac being in the game, if we get to December without him revealed I think it's safe to say he isn't in the game.

That said, we've still got a few months til then. So lets hope for the best.

The big problem I have with the argument of secret characters when they'll launch the game is they invest a lot of money to do the CGI trailers. If Ridley hadn't one, I could see it but concerning the fact they're still doing it, I doubt the game will have a plenty of them.
So, the best possible outcome IMO would be having one or two secret newcomers like Sm4sh, but one of them being revealed really close to the launch date and the other one when they announce the DLC in a posterior direct. I don't count the echo characters; I doubt they'll have trailers (and if they have, it would be like Dark Pit) so there can be a lot of them as secret.

The thing is they take different approaches to revealing newcomers each game. Melee had the reveal trailer which was the iconic intro of the game showing all the base newcomers, Brawl had a notable amount of newcomers in the reveal trailer with further updates on the dojo and Smash 4 had the individual reveal trailers, Ultimate may take Smash 4's approach but it's unknown at this point although it most likely will take that direction judging by the Ridley trailer. But since there is a big emphasis on unlocking characters, Sakurai may sneak in a few unrevealed newcomers to surprise us, we had a bonanza of infornation about the game revealed at E3 so the Smash team may wait a while before they reveal more unrevealed things

Yeah, I don't think we can definitively say they aren't taking a new approach because of a couple reasons:

We got 68 characters shown off at E3 and we already know of 84 stages. If they take until September to reveal another character, is it not possible they believe what we got was enough for us to absorb for 2.5-3 months?

In addition, Sakurai has come out and said that he's going above and beyond this time to eliminate leaks. The "Everybody is Here!" trailer exemplifies that, and who's to say that he doesn't want to change up the approach to throw off "leakers" and reduce the chances of a legitimate one getting out? Not even most Nintendo employees knew what to expect!

He could easily either keep a majority of characters secret (and hint at more being found in the full game so people aren't led to believe what they see is all they get) or drop them in a surprise trailer just before launch. Either way, there would still be something before then to keep interest high. We can't assume prior knowledge with Sakurai because he shakes things up all the time.

I myself don't hold any expectations for the game. I'm not going to be upset if there isn't anything else. I just don't believe worst case scenario yet because if there really aren't that many new characters or stages left, people could complain that there wasn't much content that was new rather than rehashed from the past. This game is still being branded as a sequel like it's always been, in addition to "the definitive Smash". I understand it's good for marketing and that game development is a demanding task. I'm just worried there will be a number of angry people.

I mean of course there will be newcomers not revealed until after launch. There still were last game and they even still had trailers that just didn't drop till after the game's release. Sakurai has never revealed the full trailer until after a game is released. I don't know why that people think that would change now.

Lord, that really sucks for the franchise. You can recreate the art style of somebody by proxy, but it won't compare to the original.

Sure, but given the Smash fanbase, it's an investment that pays off. Those trailers all go viral with reaction videos and whatnot. And it's not like there will be as many as were for Smash 4. They even made CGI trailers last time around for characters we already officially known, like Bowser Jr and DHD.

I do agree that echoes probably won't get them though. Unless they can fit into an original newcomer's trailer.

Again, Kajiyama was "only" responsible for the artwork of the monsters and of some secondary characters in the GBA games, and he wasn't involved in Dark Dawn at all as far as we know.
His passing is still a sad news for us because of the amazing work he did for Golden Sun back then, but it's far from being catastrophic for the franchise at this point.

I really don't want this kind of false belief undermine anyone's faith in the possibility of Golden Sun making a comeback. :ohwell:

So, I just saw a video about a "leak" that used binary code to describe each new fighter and Isaac happened to be mentioned. Of course, this could be fake, but I was interested because Isaac is in it, obviously. Thought it was interesting.
Here's the link to the video about it:

What do you all think? Besides that it's fake.

People have much free time. But it's incredible they discovered the pattern.

Btw, congrats to the twitter team. You've arrived to 100 followers in less than a month and starting from 0. You're doing a really great work! (Though, tbh, I was expecting a bit more of original content rather than RT all the fanart (which is impressive btw) that is published in twitter). I don't remember who were running the twitter account, but well, I guess they'll read me xD

Absolutely convinced that this is fake, but I'd be overjoyed if I'm wrong because 90% of the characters in that leak are on my wanted list.
Simon and Banjo are the only ones that aren't on my wanted list, but I have nothing against them either (plus I'd be fine with any character if Decidueye makes it in).

It sounds way too good to be true. Three of my five most wanted characters getting in? I don't quite see myself being catered to that much somehow...

Also it bothers me that it mentions Inkling and Ridley but not Daisy.

Unless for some reason it's not including echo fighters?

None of the characters listed are plausible Echo fighters so that might be true. Either way, it's a fake leak made for getting attention from being theatrical.

If this leak is the final roster I'd be satisfied with the game, having Isaac, K.rool, Banjo and Rayman would be a dream come true for me and really cement Ultimate as the 'ultimate' Smash game for me. I'm not on board with the leak since Sakurai wouldn't really plan DLC this early in time but I like how creative is compared to other supposed leaks

Thank you for the kind words, me, Falgor Falgor , and Ophilia on this board as well as Eldon Reeves on Twitter run and plan the account. At the moment we are in the planning stages for some cool things we are going to do regarding more unique and original content for the page so stay tuned which would explain why there is alot of retweets at the moments to avoid drought and the fact that the RT are a good way to show how much the community is dedicated to the series.

A vote for Isaac is a vote not just for one sword but also a giant freaking spectral sword. It's two for the price of one.

Oh snap! I thought I recognized the name! Great video analysis on that leak, dude! Even if the leaks are fake, it's great to see Isaac mentioned in them so they become my favorite. Haha! Getting some publicity of him out there and to even get people to think about his inclusion is a plus for me.

In my moveset, it's his forward smash (and you get Odyssey when fully charged). Both are cool enough to be a final smash, but hey, Judgment needs to be used too. Those theatrics are perfect for the style of final smashes Ultimate has.

N3ON is referring to Ragnarok, but the upgraded version: Odyssey, has like 3 more (slightly smaller) Giant Swords, in addition to the Giant Sword from Ragnarok.

Granted, Odyssey only appears in the sequel, when Isaac is no longer the focus character. XD

Ragnarok

Odyssey

Isaac's Ultimate Weapon in GS1, the Gaia Blade, also has a critical hit animation similar to Ragnarok. Down Smash, maybe?

There's no way Odyssey or Ragnarok could be side smash while doing it justice.

To be fair, if the scale of attacks were exactly the same as in the main Golden Sun games, I kinda feel like Isaac would Roflstomp 90% of the characters.
So maybe Ragnarok won't cause an explosion but I do think it works as a Side Smash to charge, such attacks are pretty common after all.
Think Falcon Punch but with some distance in terms of power.

Actually Sabrewulf238 Sabrewulf238 wrote that section of the OP (I was a bit confused as I didn't remember writing that), but I believe he's referring to the Ragnarok/Odyssey family in general.

There's no way Odyssey or Ragnarok could be side smash while doing it justice.
Granted, unless it was the FS, it'd probably be toned down anywhere.
