Hello there.

I wanted to open up discussion regarding the board's rule on sticking only Unity ruleset tournaments in the tournament forums. I cannot find a solid basis on this rule as people should be able to decide for themselves if they want to go to a MK legal tournament if it is clearly marked in the thread that MK is legal or not. By monopolizing Unity, it hinders the community that do not approve of the Unity standard, and hampers tournament experimentation. I do have a tournament I am running, and MK is legal, but I really would like to know why I cannot have my thread stickied when it is a large regional tournament.

i agree that it is ****ing stupid that they are stifling non-unity tournaments by not allowing them to be stickied.

however, i don't see how its such a big deal. yes, maybe fewer people will see the tourney or be reminded of it, but as long as we keep the thread alive, whats the problem? aside from the principality of the issue, there really isnt a problem.

Pretty much. I guess it being sticked will get it, I dunno, 10 more people. But its really the principle. Something shouldn't be given higher precedence just because it holds a separate opinion than the mainstream. (I almost sound hipster, lol)

You do realize that the "mainstream" does not like Unity, correct?

The TOs do it, because they get backed into a hole from either being part of the URC, or because they want the sticky like you're saying.

Honestly though, I think the URC has made it quite clear that they are fine with publicly displaying their semi-radical totalitarian methods. So this thread will in all likelihood change absolutely nothing.

Site policy has pretty much always been "we'll sticky whatever tournaments we think deserve it". Really doesn't change much.

I assume that not getting stickied also means it can't be displayed on the banner at the top that says "UPCOMING TOURNAMENTS" which can be viewed from everywhere.
Getting stickied (and thus "apporoved" more or less) will definitely help a great deal.

This site is meant to allow players and TOs to congregate and grow as a community and to drive competition with other places like Japan, is it not?
Both qualities are given a reality through an MK-legal regional tournament like NYTE and there's no reason it shouldn't be stickied.

Yes, not getting a sticky means it will not be displayed on that Upcoming Tournaments box. Not being stickied and not getting shown in the upcoming tourneys section definitely is a big loss in advertising and exposure, and for NO GOOD REASON.

Never saw a non-mainstream ruleset get a sticky before Unity.

People are just mad now that the accepted rules are no longer their own. Thats understandable, but this isn't new.

It's a Smash Bros. tournament whose appeal is spanning the entirety of the SW and talk of Mexico and a Canadian and M2K. Whatever the ruleset is, people want to participate in the game and the community. This ridiculous rule is a huge impediment.

I know it's not a new problem, but it remains a problem. One that's very easy to solve.

The sticky policy regarding Unity events is scheduled to be ended soon. The senate has been discussing this recently and we are currently voting on when to end it. Should have an official update within a few days.
