In what is most definitely one of the most bizarre updates to the Dojo ever, Sakurai has given a four year old access to Paint and the Brawl level designer. The result? Wario’s stage.

“Bizarre” doesn’t even begin to describe it. I don’t even know how to describe it, because none of the screenshots look anything like each other.

From Sakurai’s description it seems this stage goes through a series of phases, much like the five-second microgames from WarioWare. (I haven’t played WarioWare, but I’m guessing there might be some similarities between the stages and some actual microgames, a la Game & Watch and Flat Zone.) At the bottom there appears to be a bomb that, I’m assuming, counts down until the next stage shift.

As your “reward,” Sakurai shows us what looks to be the normal form of the stage. Perhaps we’ll see some sort of Pokemon Stadium-style stage-shifting during the match? There’s definitely a lot of interaction to be had here, not unlike Flat Zone.

So, uh… tournament legal, you think?

I think it might be tournament legal if players aren't hurt by the minigames.. like the arrows etc.
Either way.. I'm actually pretty impressed by this stage.
I wonder how many minigames there will be?

I'm scared. D:

I hope it's like Pokémon Stadium where you get a fair amount of "regular play" before morphing starts to happen. That stage would be quite rough if it threw too many minigames at the smashers.

I actually like this update, though I will never play it seriously. I hope it has a lot of different "mini game stages."

LOL WUT? This is the strangest update ever and...why isn't it on the main site yet? I doubt this will be tourny legal (assuming Brawl will continue in Melee's tourny legacy), but ya never know. Just because it looks really...strange...doesn't mean it plays fair. We'll just have to see.

Warioware stage ftw :D I demand to play it NOW

As for Tournament legal, I doubt it. The update says you get something for "winning" the ministage, and you know how serious players get with these things

I'm all for gimmicks and interesting stage hazards, but I think this is a step in the wrong direction.

I realize the background is supposed to look like the WarioWare games. . . but it looks really ****ty. That, and if the minigames are too short, it's going to make it very hard to focus on the battle at all. It seems to me like battles would quickly become a "survive until we get to the normal stage" deal. Which I think is lame. Like I said, I'm all for twists on stages so that we've got some variety with gameplay, but this really just looks like one big hindrance to me.

This looks to be my least favorite stage so far. But, maybe the game will change my mind in a few months.

If you've played the Wario Ware games, it basically exactly follows it's format of abstract, microgames that require you to do one task (pick a nose, avoid the arrows) in a few seconds or you lose a life. Pretty neat, and seems like a lot of fun. With the implied rewards though, it probably won't be tourney legal.

Based on the way Wario moves and this stage is anyone getting the feeling G & W may get the boot?

haha, of course its not legal, its obvious that the mingames are going to present some form of hazard, thus making it banned from tourney play.

I can't believe this isn't blatantly obvious.

It would be pretty cool if you were rewarded a normal stage for completing a minigame and something like damage/playing more minigames for not completing it.

I will say here what I said in the Ridley thread.

THEN WE WILL FIGHT IN THE SHADE!!

King Leonidas confirmed.

I think the reward will be gaining a bit of health afterward. Seems simple enough.

This would be interesting... what if players had to work together to overcome the minigame stages, otherwise something bad happened to them all? I mean, the bad would not be as bad for those who made it through the stage, but it would be a neat idea.

Tourney legal? I say nay.

That was a joke. I'm not that thick. :p

What I do enjoy about this update is that had I posted it 12 hours earlier, someone probably would have accused me of doing a really bad Photoshop job, or ripping an update off the Mojo.

As of this post, the US page still doesn't have the update on the index page. Yet the update is in fact on the US site in the stage section. Looks like someone at Nintendo is slacking off. Hillarious.

As for the stage itself. I kind of like it. I kind of expected it. but I still think its a stupid idea for a stage. They're basically interrupting the normal gameflow to play a game of simon. I don't mind moving stages where you have to move to survive, because its just like a moving fight. but this.... this is like alright stop fighting and do something else before you go back to fighitng. Could be wrong, it could be interesting, but right now I don't care for it.

Although I do like the normal stage layout. Finally a stage without the platforms arranged in the center.

AWESOME! This is just the sort of FUN, SILLY, RANDOM stage SSBB needed! LOL whiners. I bet most of the people complaining about the art style never played it. Although I hope there is a lot of variety. I wonder if there will be speed/level ups, and how short the stage changes will actually last. It would be kinda crazy for it to be only a few seconds, but boring to sit at the "elevator" screen for a long time. WOOOOOO!

Also how come it took so long for the US site to get the updates? I gave up at 3 and went to UK and it was already there.

I think this stage is charmng. It'll be a nice break from in depth brawling once in a while. I hope this stage does give time in the basic stage. 20 -30 seconds of basic stage fighting would make it more even and more exciting. The main stage could be for advanced play while the minigames act as more breathers from battle allowing you to think of your next move. However if the main stage lasts for only 5-10 seconds then the stage would be to hectic for my tastes and definitly outlawed in tourny play.

Looks pleasing to the younger fanbase if you ask me.

Personally, I saw this coming, instead as Wario's Final Smash.

I think it's cute ^^ There's a lot of interaction though, more like a "survive-style" stage which I don't really like, but who cares? First, we finally have a new stage, second, it looks really cool. Flatzone...er, WarioWare FTW! :D

This is... this is brilliant.

I didn't expect them to make Warioware, the game itself, into a stage.

This will definitely not be tournament-legal, as you can see the rain damaging Kirby, and the arrows likely will as well.

Wow... really, just... wow.

I'm so happy they added Wario to the game now.

Edit:

For those who have not played Warioware, this game is rather similar. http://www.razoric.com/games/Four-Second-Fury

The graphics are simple and don't matter because you're only seeing them for 3-7 seconds at a time, and need to understand what to do more than you need to see a pretty looking game.

I love the Warioware series, it's the best portable game since Tetris. The Wii version is fantastic as well.

Like mario party? That's like saying a clown car is the same as a F1 racing car. Mario party is slow, full of stuff aimed at young children both with speed and dificulty, while the F1 is those who are older and up for more of a fast paced challenge with completly diferent content.

Regardless, best stage evar.

1) The reward is not clear yet
2) These minigames replicate exactly what happens in Wario Ware
3) I wonder how many more there'll be? Maybe the 4 player "Catch the Money" Game - players can jump on each other - definitely the "Dodge the Snot" game with that giant girl's snot falling on you.
4) Tournament legal? Err...what if the reward for each Minigame is an Item? :O OMG BANNED

There really wouldn't be any other type of stage that could really capture WarioWare itself.
Sure, there could be a stage where the players battle throughout the 'town' that WarioWare takes place in... But how could that possibly show the random hilarity that WW really is?

Though I typically stick to the more straight forward boards, I can guarantee that I'll be frequenting this one, for sure. ^^

I don't know why anyone would have that thought.. and just because Wario has quick/jerky moves.. that doesn't mean G&W is booted.
I'm pretty sure Mr. G&W will return.
