Personal favorite game of mine that I wish I played more. It's pretty fast paced for a shooter and deals more with technical skill then accuracy. Game looks slower then it really is. The button commands for the simple things are ridiculous.

If you ever wanted a game that fought like what you see in anime's, here it is XD
I used to play that online years ago (wasn't it called Gunz?), but got way too much delay so I stopped. But all that quick-paced walljumping, sword-slashing and shooting made it really addictive. I recommend it.

PS: why is that a preview if the game is years old?

If you wanna play quake then quake live is pretty fun and its free. Although someone will probably say "OMG cpma/qw is so much better" which is probably true but whatever.

Looks like an average skilled shooter. It probably takes fast hands to play but its lame because the third person makes you view too much and its full of hitscan weapons. Also no map control advantage or real team work strategy.

Here's a real and good FPS game that has a huge skill ceiling.

www.QuakeLive.com

It's free and it's constantly updated. Big community but be warned since its such a huge skill based game if you join games ranked above you the chat might not be pretty. Have fun.

The biggest learning curve thing in QL is probably learning to strafe jump so be sure to check out the tutorials if you're gonna start playing that.
Strafing is easy, the biggest curve is learning how duels work. Timing items and weapons and knowing where people will go and spawn locations.

I knew I was going to get a "this is better" post by either you or Fireblaster. It seems like this thread has no purpose other then you guys trying to explain points on why everything you guys like is better or takes more skill. You guys are most likely not changing anyones opinions so it's pretty pointless.

Obviously you know I'm right about you caring way to much about what's more competitive/takes more skill in a video game. Why can't we just play what we enjoy? It's obvious you enjoy what takes the most skill or whatever but don't throw it down everyones throat just because they like a more casual game. Light a joint and chill, BRO

You can enjoy whatever you want but it doesn't make it good. Many people enjoy B movies but they aren't good.

I don't think I can ever forgive casuals for ruining one of my favorite game series, Unreal Tournament. Look what happened with UT3, it was console-fied and it's boring. Catering to casuals and ignoring the hardcore fan-bases of video games are the cancer of video games.

Yes you're absolutely right I do care "too much" about what takes skill in a video game because skill is fun.

You can always just go QQ in a corner while I enjoy my lit joint.

What makes them not a good thing if many people enjoy them?

Clearly the cancer is killing the industry.

Oh wait...

Sure (more for the eustress), and "mindless" play can be fun too (more for the relaxation). Clearly the demand weighs in favor of the latter, but that doesn't mean that the former doesn't have a demand that isn't met.

Looks to me like you're the one QQing.

Why are you guys confusing being successful with being good? When I say downfall to video games or cancer killing video games I don't mean the money they make I mean the quality of the game. Maybe this will clarify things here so I don't have to read any more dumb posts from Moogle.

For instance: Starwars Episode 1 was very very successful, but it sucks butt. That's undeniable.
However: "The Thing" from John Carpenter was a failure when it came out, but now it's considered to be a classic and one of the top sci-fi/horror/monster/gore movies ever.

I don't mean that all successful things are bad, for you extremists out there who want to nit pick my posts. Unless you're a fool, it is BLATANTLY obvious that the quality of gameplay in video games have been declining probably since the start of the new 3d gens (Xbox PS2 and GCN). I put a lot of the blame on the game called "Halo" which is a generic slow paced NOT FUN NOT SKILLED shooter game for fratboys and children that sold well so now many game companies only want to make easy as hell video games that feel more like interactive movies than anything (for all you modern borefare 2 fans out there) because they know many idiots will continue to eat it up.

Do you honestly think Mondern crapfest 2 is anything compared to Super Metroid? Starcraft? Unreal Tournament? Megaman X? Contra? Quake 2/3? Half Life? Super Mario Bros 3? Castlevania 4 or SOTN?

I often have people say I'm just stuck in the old times, as in I only like these older games because nostalgia blinds my judgment. I know I am a sucker for nostalgia, but come on, these new games cannot even compare to the old games. Back then GAMEPLAY was considered the art of making video games, and now it's STORY and GRAHPICS, which usually results in stale and uninteresting shallow gameplay.

I mean just compare Brawl to SSB64. Brawl has so much on the surface, more characters, more stages, better graphics, better soundtrack, but it severely lacks the core of what made smash brothers which was unique gameplay that knew no limits. Brawl has so much more of everything but fun because of its shallow gameplay, which also relates to many games these days when you compare them to the old games.

Of course I leave no room for argument in my post, but what are you going to argue now? If you have any VALID points on why new games are even half as good as old games then I would love to listen, otherwise just join our STEAM channel and have fun in there I'll be moderating it and don't worry I won't abuse my mod powers unless you break my only rule!

1) Halo has a lot of competitive value. Maybe you could argue otherwise for halo 2 and 3 but the first one is good.

2) "Good" is subjective. To many people, CoD MW 2 is good. You apparently disagree, and so do I, but it's still just an opinion.

I agree with your criticisms about graphics over gameplay and so on. The difference is that the video game market has widened a lot, and many of those new video game consumers care a lot more about graphics and such.

Maybe this is crowding out all the good gameplay games because developers spend way more time on graphics, or something, but I don't know. There is a good market for hardcore gamers, and I think that some companies will focus on gameplay. Also, eventually graphics will be good enough that people will only care about gameplay.

Also I kinda think ssb and ssbm were good by accident.

Isn't the fact that something is good or not based on an opinion? Yeah, a lot of people will have similar opinions about one thing but that doesn't make it right. I have all the right to say Unreal Tournament, Quake, Smash, and any game you like sucks and it wouldn't make me either wrong or right. Learn to allow opinions.

I don't think I can ever forgive casuals for ruining one of my favorite game series, Unreal Tournament. Look what happened with UT3, it was console-fied and it's boring. Catering to casuals and ignoring the hardcore fan-bases of video games are the cancer of video games.
Welcome to the new age of video games. Suck it up.

I'll agree, skill can be fun. I just prefer to take some of my games a little bit more casually instead of being an elitist about every **** thing I play. I've learned the hard way that if I ever try and play pro at a game, local people hate me playing them. I can't play anyone in smash around here anymore because they all just think I'm "too good" when honestly, I'm not. I just know the competitive side away from the casual side, which they refuse to learn, and I'm just fine with that.

You can always just go QQ in a corner while I enjoy my lit joint.
Yeah, I'll do that if you chill, MAN

LOL BHLMRO what a dumb post you need to stop posting before you hurt your self. :(

Also for anyone who thinks Halo has competitive value I won't argue there because it's an age old argument for which the Halo fans always lose.

JOIN OUR STEAM CHAT TOO, poor Jaime was in yesterday and he felt all alone because there were 5 people in and nobody talked to him I guess? I dunno I was watching a movie at the time.

I have no part in this argument but i'd like to point out that because a majority likes a certain thing it does not necessarily make it good/right.

Hitler's nazi party thought it was okay to murder thousands and thousands of jews and anybody that Hitler didn't deem "Aryan", while in their opinion it's a good thing, it's not right or a good thing.

Just thought i'd throw that in there xD

pc > console argument may continue as usual

LOL that's a totally different situation.

It is wrong for the majority to FORCE their wishes onto everyone.

But if the majority likes one thing and the minority is free to like something else then that's cool.

Dash Fox I'd like to hear your opinions on Halo and CounterStrike

Arguing about PC/Console games are dumb....

Because PC games are superior, whether you like it or not.
