Yeah I think if DLC is handdled like this most of the people will be happy with end result, I mean for the owners of the 3DS will cost nothing to download this characters and Nintendo will see how well its received, maybe is a test for future titles? With connectivity between 3DS and Wii U.

This model has been used previously, most notably Halo 4. Its a good way to drip content into a game without overwhelming the player with content. The only downfall is, predictably, paying for every little component. Ive noticed Nintendos policy is to give the player a good value for their DLC, most notably Super Luigi U, or free, like FE:A and Pikmin 3. If they intend to purposely leave out content, to update it along with the Wii U release, I have no doubts that it will be either very cheap or free. I would suspect free.

They may have connectivity where if you buy the Wii U version, you get the new characters for 3DS for free, and if you dont, the new characters are available for $5 or something.

That's true- we still don't know about this connectivity. Originally i just thought the connectivity would have to do with altering a characters appearance, such as Villager's clothes or the appearance of the Mii, but this would be much better.

So is Sal Romano a moderator on that website? I think it'd be cool if we could somehow contact him and ask him about it. Not that it would change anything.

Sal was vetted by a reputable GameFAQs leaker, right? There's still the possibility that they could both be making up the information, but I've always assumed that any deceit lay with Sal's source, not Sal himself. Sal would have a vested interest in generating views for his site, which a Smash leak certainly does, but the independent verification makes me not so suspicious of him.

Glad to see the thread has been cleaned up. I'm also glad we are finally giving Sal Romano credit. I'm curious, what was the reason the Chrom leak was put to rest?

Alright, it's tin foil hat time! I've noticed on some forums that there's this weird theory going around about characters getting revealed before E3. The theory is that all the remaining starting roster characters from Brawl (:popo::ike::lucas::metaknight::wario:) will be revealed between now (April 15th) and E3 (June 10-12). Here's the theory:

April 18th, last update before Fire Emblem anniversary on the 20th :ike:
April 24th, Japanese release of NES Remix 1+2 :popo:

May 2nd, North American release of Kirby Triple Deluxe :metaknight:

May 9th, last update before "Mother's" Day :lucas:(a ginormous stretch but let's entertain the idea for the sake of argument)

May 29th, Japanese release of Mario Kart 8 :wario:

What do you all think? Absolutely nuts or do you think they might be onto something?

I expect there to be no Lucas. I expect E3 to show Pac-Man and Mii at the very least.

And given the custom movesets, maybe Miis are friendly only.

May 2nd is part of Golden Week in Japan, so I don't expect that week to have any pictures at all.

I can see Ice Climbers and Wario happening though, maybe.

I expect there to be no E3, because it was cut from SSB4 (due to time constraints of course, go figure!) and if you're not in Smash you just flat out don't exist man.

To be fair, we don't even know if Lucas is in the game. Besides the two Mother items shown in the press kit, zero Mother related content has been shown by Sakurai.
So what better way than to drop Lucas on us? :troll:

This is why I feel like Sakurai has made the statements that he's made concerning the game:
"Can't bring back every character from previous games."
"The amount of stress I feel [about choosing characters], it's almost to the brink of death"

He knew about the backlash he got for the roster in Brawl, and knew he wouldn't have time to put in every character fans really wanted and the demands from Nintendo. It's incredibly difficult to please everyone.
yeah you can not please everyone but based on the noise ridley and k rool make, those two added would make it where the majority would be fine with the roster.

you mean like he was in brawl.....wait
Ooooh! Patterns! Can I play too?! I'll take your implied silence as a yes (because I'm too impatient to wait for actual silence).

Hmmm... well 2 is >1, and apparently a single data point is enough to form a pattern, therefore all numbers are >1.

Negative numbers and zero don't exist. Q.E.D.

Thus there is no absense of something. There can be at fewest 1 of something. Thus there must be at least one character in smash brothers for every franchise in existence (including nonNintendo ones since the math tells them they can't say no.). Thus Smash brothers has more characters then the previous game had pixels in mario's 3-d model.

I think Ice Climbers, Meta Knight and Wario might happen. I'd be surprised if they aren't in the starting roster, at most I could see maybe Meta Knight being demoted to unlockable because we already have Kirby and Dedede. The rest is definitely stretching it though, yeah. I've got a feeling if Ike actually is in the game he's probably an unlockable at this point, and I'd assume if anything that Ness would be the starter and not Lucas this time. I probably don't expect Ness to get shown off unless Captain Falcon does however.

I think it made a lot of sense for Lucas and Ike to be starters in Brawl because they were new characters, but they're not anymore and Marth and Ness are staples to the series.

I have a slight question which does pertain to the Mario Kart rumor.

On the website, do the number of character boxes in the bottom of a character's screen change depending on screen resolution? If not, then since there's 9 on my screen, if the Sal leak is real, could 45 be our number? To get this, I cut Snake, Wolf, Ike and R.O.B., which I had no real 'basis' to do except make room, R.O.B. could have easily been Lucas, I just went with my gut instinct, but with those cuts, it did equal 45 with the Sal leak.

I'd say that matters as much as the Brawl roster ending up being divisible by four (which it wasn't), as each row on the previous DOJO was composed of that amount.

My assumption is based on the fact that whenever you scroll to the last row of boxes, there's always white boxes left open. I have a hard time believing that once everyone is shown, that white boxes will still exist, because that could lead people to believing that every character hasn't been shown yet.

I'd say people would only be getting their hopes up unnecessarily for such an event, it's not like the boxes are on the other side where newly revealed characters are placed, they're at the end past Pit.
And the boxes could just be removed... it wouldn't scroll evenly but it'd still show all the characters and have no blanks. The site will eventually revamp to some extent anyway when the focus becomes how/where/when to purchase the game.

I still say it should be something to be mindful of. The negative side if this is correct is that there will be more cuts than we think, but again, it could be nothing. However, I see no reason why they chose 9 of all numbers. They could have easily fit more on there, they could have fit less there, yet they chose that number specifically.

Also, that's not what I meant. People would have all the more reason to get their hopes up since the way I view the boxes, is that the characters get moved down the line when a new character is shown, and new boxes get added to the row when that row is filled up.

For example, when the current boxes are filled, another 9 will be added.

The more white boxes, the more likely a new character is to be added in the front of the line.

It depends on what you're using.

I've seen some people state that they only see 1. As for myself, I only see 7.

This is the leak I was talking before, I finally went back and looked for it. This was copied from a post on page 170 (holy crap, I just realized how far the discussion has moved since January) if anybody wants to go back and look at it, though I don't think that was the original posting in this thread if I read foolssigma's comment correctly:

Hello! I know there have been a lot of “leaks” lately so of course, believe what you want . I don’t have as much info as some of the other people who have shared things in the last few weeks, but I thought I’d fill you all in on some new things I've found out.

I work for a ~PAL Region~ Nintendo office. I won’t say which one because obviously I need to keep my location and identity a secret!

Some time in the next few months (most likely around April) there will be Smash demos installed on Wii U and 3DS demo stations that are currently at certain retailers (in my region- not sure about other regions plans for this but I imagine they’re the same). The Wii U version of the demo has been finalized and we have the code at our offices. That’s what I’m here to share info on.

DEMO CONTENT

The demo is simply a standard four-stock battle mode. This is the only content available in the demo, and only a small selection of stages and characters are available.

DEMO STAGES

>Battlefield
>Skyloft
>Smashville
>Wily’s Castle

DEMO CHARACTERS

>Mario
>Link
>Samus
>Pikachu
>Donkey Kong
>Pit
>Kirby
>Fox
>Mega Man
>Villager

Don’t ask why these characters were chosen for the demo, I don’t know! (I wish Wii Fit Trainer was in, I’m most excited to play her)

DEMO ITEMS

Items can be turned on and off, but the “item select” screen isn't available. As far as I know, not all items from the final game are in the demo, even ones that have been revealed so far by Sakurai (for example, Assist Trophies and Pokeballs are not in the demo)

THE TRAILER

The demo has a trailer that plays after the title screen has been left idle for 2 minutes (retail workers can expect to see this trailer a lot!), and while it DOES show shadowy silhouettes of some new characters, nothing “new” is shown. There is some gameplay footage of veterans that haven’t been officially revealed yet (such as Ness, Jigglypuff, and Wario)

HOWEVER

We have also received some press assets and product info sheets about the game and I can confirm that the press assets include character art for:

Shulk
Wonder Red
Ashley
Ridley
Takamaru
Skull Kid
Mewtwo
Palutena
Lyn
Barbara the Bat
Cranky Kong
Isaac
Proto Man
Male Wii Fit Trainer
Female Villager

The thing about this is that we've only got art of these characters and no screenshots, so it’s hard to tell if they’re playable or not. We just received a .ZIP full of art. No descriptions, nothing else. Some like the last three in particular I’m fairly sure are alt costumes, but some (like Cranky Kong for instance) we have no idea about yet- could be Newcomers, could be Assist Trophies (and given that Skull Kid and Ashley are in there, we know that at least SOME of these characters are assists)"

The only thing that gets a raised eyebrow from me is the mention of Proto Man, since Elec Man is the Mega Man AT (unless there's the possibility of getting two AT's per 3rd-Party series, which would explain the lack of Shadow or another Sonic character AT in the Direct?), but other than that (and the obvious demo stuff), there isn't really anything that I can immediately see that would suggest it's fake based on current confirmed info. I figured, if nothing else, it might be good to revisit an old one that didn't get any attention, as it came in the wake of the Palutena pictures, and everybody was so focused on proving or disproving them at the time that this basically got pushed to the wayside and forgotten without actually getting talked about and/or debunked.
