I could totally live with that roster. Not only does it have my Pac-Man [inner screaming intensifies], but it also has Mewtwo returning and a bunch of very likely newcomers that actually make sense. That said, it's also really safe and really playing to the fans' requests, which unfortunately doesn't always seem to be on Sakurai's agenda. I approve of this leak, but as much as I hate to say it, I still doubt it's true.

But if that picture has not been edited in any way, that guy has some good prediction skills. The post was made on Dec. 4th. Both Rosalina (12/18) and Mother Brain (2/7) got revealed after the post was made. So.. that's something.

Edit: After looking at it a bit more, again assuming no photoshopping has been done on the dates in that post, he also correctly predicted Ashley a month before her reveal (1/15). That's three for three. I'm going to save this picture to my desktop and keep an eye on it as stuff gets revealed, because so far this is the only leak I've seen that I can actually believe in, unless someone can prove to me it's been debunked.
Wasn't Skull Kid revealed afterwards too? If so, that's another one. Jeez, either this guy is a really good guesser or he's actually legit. Which would be shocking, to say the least.

Although seeing as I don't know who Andy and Saki are, they seem too obscure to be in the game. Also, there's a chance this post could've been edited and updated so...idk.

Pardon me if the question I'm about to ask is common knowledge, as I've never been able to access 4chan or any of it subsidiaries, but...

Does anyone else see that little red speck next to "No. 519600437"? What is that?

It's been deemed very likely that it was edited, but I just wanted to point out that your particular ignorance (that sounds harsh, sorry) doesn't mean a character is "too obscure." There's plenty of people who are introduced to characters via Smash; even ones we take for granted like Samus and Fox, especially as more years go by without a new game from these types of characters.

That image was edited. I went back and tried to dig it up the initial version, but the "leaker" took it down because he, too, is well aware that he f***ed up. Check the replies to see people catch on to his stupid mistake and rightly dismiss the "leak." Also, if that particular "leaker" happens to be reading this...bwa ha ha ha! How could you possibly be so damn stupid as to not check major details like that before attempting to be believable???

Also, the Betternet roster does have the Mii. Jeez, what with how often you all bring it up for no damn reason, you'd think you'd know what newcomers were on it. *eyeroll*

Seriously, this leak had a major flaw related to the time of posting that debunked it pages ago. I can't find the discussion, but I can assure you it's fake. Actually that image is most likely edited to cover the flaw, which had something to do with the Palutena leak if I'm not mistaken.

EDIT: ninja'd. Oh well

Ehh it's fine. To be honest, I didn't even know who Link was until I first played Melee, maybe 4-5 years ago. I pretty much only knew Mario characters and Pikachu, maybe even Kirby. And I didn't know who Shulk or Prince Sable were until like last year to this year. So yeah, you're right.

Who are Andy and Saki though?

Andy is from Advanced War and Saki is from Sin and Punishment. The latter is admittedly much more niche than other things.

Hey guys! What does the Betternet leak say? It couldn't possibly be in the OP, could it???
Sarcasm is an unbecoming trait, dear BKupa.

What is the betternet leak you guys are talking about? What characters does it say are in the game?
Here you are.

  • Dixie Kong is playable
  • Mewtwo returns
  • Toon Zelda is playable
  • Palutena is playable
  • Krystal is playable
  • Chrom & Lucina are playable
  • Little Mac is playable
  • Takamaru is playable
  • Pac-Man is playable
  • Ike does not return
  • Lucas does not return
  • Wolf does not return
  • Snake does not return
  • Mewtwo was the final character "solidified" on the roster (can't be proven)
  • Mewtwo uses neither Mega Evolution
  • Mewtwo's Final Smash is "Psycho Break"
  • Lucario's Final Smash has not been finalized (can't be proven)
  • Zelda's transformation into Sheik has not been changed
  • Samus's transformation into Zero Suit Samus has not been changed
  • Pokemon Trainer no longer commands Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard (leaker did not specify who replaces them)
  • Pac-Man and Ganondorf will be announced E3 2014 via Nintendo Direct
  • Release date will be announced at E3 2014
  • Wii U release date is "early autumn"
  • 3DS release date is during the holidays
  • Chrom & Lucina are a duo character, with either character being able to be selected on the CSS
  • Chrom and Lucina each have their individual moveset and fight separately, bar special moves in which the partner materializes and the duo swaps. The specials are the same in name but function slightly differently depending on character
  • Chrom & Lucina share the Final Smash
  • Krystal uses her staff
  • Krystal's Final Smash has not been decided yet (can't be proven)

Honestly the betternet leak sounds the least plausible to me. I don't get the focus on this one. It would make literally no sense for Sakurai to cut four non-clone characters and add Toon Zelda who would mostly likely have the exact function of normal Zelda. Sure, if Tetra was included there would be some obvious distinctions but isn't Toon Link the only representation of that side of the series we need? Logically, it doesn't make sense to me.

Jeez, BKoops is sassy tonight!

Idk, Betternet Leak never really resonated with me. Don't know why, just got that feeling about it.

BKoops is befuddled as to why, out of the hundred or more "leaks" that have been posted in here, that's the single one people put upon a pedestal for no reason whatsoever in spite of its glaring flaws, and dig back up on what seems to be a near-daily basis.

People tend to put things they find to hold water at the top of their interest, simply because it's something worth keeping an eye on.

Or, perhaps they are desperate for something to cling onto, similar to a newborn child clinging to their mother. One of the two.

Are you comparing the people of this thread to infants? That's harsh, Hinata.

Yeah, no, ja definitely feel.

I never found it so much more amazing than the others. In fact it's pretty obvious an 'oh lets take out some vets' and 'add a little odd character here' type deal. I lurk here when it's talked about because it's just whatever.

My point remains. What about that "leak" makes it catnip to the frequenters of this thread?
Why do we keep pulling up the E3 leak? Even though it's already been proven false?
How come we keep bringing back the Palutena leak? Even after hundreds of posts devoted to it?

Simple, when people see a leak they like. They try to prove it true.
They keep going back to it, because they want reason to believe it.
Like the leaks mentioned above, we keep going back cause we want Pac-Man, or Palutena.
And, we do everything in out power to say it's true (like they pushed it back, he wasn't specific, you're grasping at straws, etc.)

Or better yet, new info comes up.
And we go back to question it's legality. We wonder whether or not or past perceptions we're true.

I don't know if it is the right place, but I was reading a blog that I follow and was the following headlines there: Hideo Kojima quer ver Snake em Super Smash Bros. (Wii U/3DS), which translates to: "Hideo Kojima wants to see Snake in Super Smash Bros. For WiiU/3DS".
The text said that Kojima stated he doesn't know if Snake is in, and asks for Sakurai to put him in the game.
Now I think, if the creator doesn't even know, that Snake is in fact cut.
Sorry, but I am lazy to do some research in English, so...

This was indeed discussed earlier.

Alright I've heard enough. This isn't a rumor/leak anymore, this is now news related to Snake.

Take the rest of this discussion to the Veteran Snake thread.

Simple. People feel they have discovered something new about the leak, whether it be for better or for worse, and they try to make their point known. Afterwards, people who have been arguing about it for a good while respond, telling them that either their "proof" has already been discussed, or if it's truly new info, we begin to discuss it again.

So yes, while there are a proliferation of posts dedicated to one certain leak from time to time, they're always thought to serve purpose, whether that purpose be only in the mind of the poster,
or in the minds of others as well. Even though you've already said this, but it's nice to drive the point home.

Am I late for the party? Sorry people. :p
I think that kind of a unwanted leak, but whatever.
I'm thirsty for leaks.
Specially Ridley ones, stating why he is not seen in the background yet. ¬¬

Ah, okay. Fantastic. Thank you for that info! :D

Well then, I'm still going to watch this leak. I wish I could know what he messed up on. Maybe it was a bad relay of information or he predicted wrong and got caught out on it. I'm not sure at this point. Regardless, like I said before, it's still a pretty sound leak and I'm going to watch it to see if any more of those predictions come true.

But then here's where I get.
Why still talk about it? It only leaves us running in circles.

Someone finds new info > People challenge that info > The person in question brings back evidence > Ignored/dismissed > back to normal > Someone finds new info
And it keeps going.
My point is why keep going if we're just retracing steps?

...not even close. Those two leaks are brought up because there's a rather high chance that they're the only two legitimate ones in this entire thread (unless you're the sort of agenda-driven meshugana who has convinced himself "People were talking about WFT!!!"). Nothing else is even remotely close to being on the level of those two.

Optimistically speaking, people in this thread are here to sift through piles of garbage in the hopes of uncovering some potential hidden truths. Realistically speaking, though, you're right; people come to the forum every day so they can come to this thread like it's some forum minigame. "Oh, these leaks will help me with my predictions! These leaks give me false hope for X character, so I'm going to talk them up!" If it were solely up to me, I'd temporarily lock the thread so people can be weaned off of it...but alas, that's not going to happen.

You have seen the people of this thread, have you not? They are desperate for things to speak about. Once someone comes up with "new" info, everyone clings to that post until it's been wrung bone dry. It is the unfortunate truth.

to make that more relevant to the post, Yoshi without Baby or simply no Yoshi later, how much would that debunk?

Here's my deal with the Betternet leak; there's no real OOMPH to it. It's basic, simple, plain. Not one character stands out as a Sakurai "WTF ASDFJkYfKo" choice. Yes, I realize that a few character on there (Krystal, T-Zelda) aren't super widely requested but they are still not the kinds of characters I feel that Sakurai would put in. Maybe it's real, maybe he wanted to focus on fan-requested characters this time around, but im deeming it fake only because it's unspecial.

I do love the sound of a redesigned PTrainer though :pimp:

I love the Betternet leak because it states the PKMN Trainer no longer commands Pokemon... I really him to attack with a bicycle, fishing rod, Pokeballs etc.

Because it's arguably the most 'Sakurai' leak out of all the leaks of the front page. It has a stench similar to the Brawl leaks and the fact it's lasted this long, and no real way to debunk it for another 3 months potentially in sight, makes it arguably the most hardy leak that's been text based besides the E3 leak. And heaven forbid if it's E3 prediction is correct...

As much as I WANT a big dream roster which includes guys like Ridley ad K.Rool, my expectations when it comes to characters are at an all time low to be honest. Once we get a newcomer in April if the trend continues, we'll have 6 newcomers, and if we get another 3 at E3, that's 9 newcomers. If we're only expecting 10-15 newcomers, then that'd only leave 1-6 more to be revealed. The Brawl roster smacked a lot of sense into me as "Don't dream big", so I'm not. If things end up being huge, then great. If things are just "So-So", like *coughnoridleycough*, then I can't be disappointed because I expected it anyhow.
