Hehe, you're luckier than I am though. I wish that I even got to play Red/Blue and Gold/Silver when I was younger. I never would have even gotten exposed to Gen 1 if it weren't for the hand-me-downs from my older cousins (jesus they had a ton of Pokemon tapes and movies). My first Pokemon game was Emerald when I was like 6. Played every Pokemon game since then (except 1st gen and 2nd gen but I played FireRed and HeartGold so I suppose it counts).
Ahh Ruby and Sapphire.. Those were my first as well. I can't even explain the hype that was present for ORAS.
Emerald? Same here! Along with HeartGold, Emerald is my favorite Pokemon game. I love Rayquaza.
Kinda felt like coming home.
No kidding. The starters, music, Elite 4, gym leaders, legendaries... it made me extremely happy whenever I saw something and remembered it in the originals. ORAS was such a nostalgia trip. I nearly cried when I heard the remade Littleroot Town theme for the first time in the game.
Not to mention the revamped cutscenes. Facing Groudon was pretty epic.

Well that probably means we started playing Pokemon around the same time...and I'm 4 years older than you ('97). I started with Diamond in fall of 2007 and played my first Smash Bros game (Brawl) in 2010 (not counting Super Smash Flash 1, which I started playing around 2008). I've been late to a lot of Nintendo stuff since I only had an Xbox until I got my DS at the end of 2005.
Well, the fun's not gonna end after Mewtwo's released! As a matter of fact, that's when its just going to begin! We'll have so much to discover and learn about Mewtwo, and he'll be so much fun to talk about and use! Don't think of Mewtwo's release as the end. Think of it as a new beginning

YES!!! I didn't play Ruby or its remake, but I played Emerald, Sapphire, and AS. I know exactly how you feel. The music popping up in the Kyogre/Rayquaza cutscene was just like in the originals, simply amazing. It's a remix, but I love how you can still hear parts of the original theme in it. I still listen to it on YouTube and I love it. The fight was just like the original for me too. Kyogre was ridiculously hard for me to catch back then because I was a scrub. Now, it still was hard because I vowed to only use the original PokeBalls. Rayquaza was easy in the originals because master ball. It was super easy in AS for some weird reason.
. (using sticker to avoid misspelling) And so I ended up KOing my Mewtwo without realizing I would never get another one. Luckily, I was a piece of **** back then and I traded with my friends with those freaking cables you stuck in your GBA and I got my hands on his.
