Yep. Nobody has any ideas about the next DLC fighter and just trying to go from company reps.

I have never been too deep into speculation on the previous smashes, but I think that has a lot to do with the idea of "reps" right? Did that start with the seven squares or is it older?

Dunno abour previous attempts, but it seems like a popular idea for some fanbases where the groups are not as big yet. If I recall correctly, I believe this is the second attempt for a MS one and there was a Namco one earlier this year.

Makes it easier to have more people and discussions anyway.
Some companies have quite a few good games under their belt.

maybe we should make a general nintendo thread XD

You know, even though I've seen FFIX have success and seeing people starting to enjoy it, I haven't seen such a warm reception and this widespread like it is for FFVII.
It's awesome to see how this turned out and how this game landed on the fanbase it was originally meant to.

Games like FF9 honestly deserves it. Now if only we get Suikoden 2 on the switch too.

The whole "rep" thing has been going on since at least smash 4, or maybe brawl (but i wasn't part of the community in brawl since i just played it on my own so im not sure about then). But the whole "rep" thing has provoked a lot of arguments in the past, mostly because of self made fan rules lol, and yet sakurai keeps proving them all wrong and doing whatever he wants. In the end nobody really knows anything, they just pretend they do with self entitlement.

Fan rules are ridiculous. For all we know, we'll end up getting two SE reps somehow. It's extremely unlikely to me, not because of fan rules, but because of how stingy Square is. That said, Sakurai is a man that can make miracles happen. I never thought we'd even see Cloud in Smash to begin with, but here we are.

That said, characters do get added for sake of representation too. It's part of why Zero Suit Samus was chosen. He wanted another Metroid character. That was it. Obviously the transformation mechanic played a bit of a role, but he went out of his way just find a series to add a character for. Technically speaking, this is also why we got Greninja and Incineroar He wanted a character from these two specific Generations of Pokemon. So yes, a slot was set aside for "rep" purposes. But in every case, it's only part of why they're in. Something has to catch his eye too. Some kind of fun mechanic.

It's very much a case by case basis thing with them.

Indeed. My point was when people say reps don't exist, that's not remotely true. They absolutely do.

Whether you like that or not is another thing. I can fully get the point of "we shouldn't look at them as reps", but it's still important to understand that the game they come from still holds importance. It determines their series' symbol. It can determine event their abilities, stage options, costumes, and sometimes even their exact character name. Like Toon Link isn't simply just WW Link, it's an art design. Did you know that according to the games the character comes from, it includes Spirit Tracks, which does not star WW Link himself, but his descendant. That's an example of what I mean where representation plays a role. Though it's also a "character design" is part of representation as well. It's all a piece that makes a character fun and interesting.

Of course, it goes both ways. Many dislike WarioWare Wario because they want his Land version. That's fair. They're very different in their abilities by all means. Another example would be if they wanted Paper Mario or a more Mario & Luigi focused design. Whether or not they're the same person doesn't matter, as the way they're in the game as playable is what counts. ZSS is a great example of that. Another one is Young Link. Part of his importance is Sakurai views him as the original NES version of Link. Though I'd like if he had some notes from something beyond OOT, like maybe ALTTP(I'm aware the toon design is loosely used for the remake of ALTTP and ALBW).

Maybe with the next Smash bros, they will bring the three links back and embrace them with composite abilities similar to what they did with Zelda.

That being said, I wish that also applied to some of the Fire Emblem characters as a lot of them share the same mold, but I digress.

Same. Albeit, I'm less bothered by Chrom and Lucina. They feel distinct enough with either a different move or a different mechanic. Dark Pit I want more differences of. Lucina and Chrom tend to have a higher tier settings due to the lack of a tipper/sweetspot, making them easier to work with. For Dark Pit, any small differences would be nice. A different weapon here and there would be cool. A few different stats too. Though to be fair, Daisy is the one that suffers here. She has zero differences beyond her hurtbox, which makes her able to dodge a move once in a while better than Peach can. She's fine as an echo, but a few other differences would be nice. Maybe hit a bit harder(more knockback) due to her being more spunky/a tomboy while having a bit less defense(via knockback, though I don't remember characters taking more damage outside of elemental things).

She technically has one more change relating to her turnip but really other then that virtually nothing. The Belmonts hardly had a change too although it's a bit more understandable in that regard. Aside from their appearance and the way their holy waters work.

I consider the holy water differences a good change, not unlike Lucina and Chrom's sweetspot type thing. I want more like that.

And I don't know much of the Turnip thing. Details, please?

Here ya go

Oh, that's a nice difference. Could be cooler like the Holy Waters, but still, they have actual different gameplay now. Was it found out with the latest patch? Or was this since the first update(or the first version). I think we're on the third overall version, right?

No it just took up to not long ago to realize the difference :p
I think a lot of people didn't think the turnips would have differences because they're the same item. But turns out it depends whose turnip it is.

It makes quite a bit of difference for some combos and gimping.

Well there's heavy rumours that suggest 3.0.0 is going to be shown off at the end of the PAX east tournament that's going on right now.
I wonder if brave will be shown off too.

There's also the Sega Fes in Japan right? Its very likely that they could have footage of Joker in both events since Today Atlus was supposed to present.

I doubt Brave would be shown off there, never mind any Joker gameplay. Somebody being dumb enough to leak gameplay at a public event I could believe though. It isn't worldwide, as noted above.

Though what Ryomo said could work.

I wouldnt say very likely, because of what atlus said for when the next info would be (24th of april) on p5r. But there's definitely going to be 'something'. I hope they break expectations tho :)

I doubt Brave will be shown off, but we might get a sneaky peeky at Joker. I really hope so, even if it's only his male alt and not the new girl. I'm dying for that Joker footage, Nintendo. I'm thirsty. I'm even thirstier now that I'm checking out P5 and am about to see
Kamoshida get the floor wiped with him.

Wasn't expecting anything, but Twitch chat is as gullible as always.

I am loving “Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far” at the moment.

Worth the 32€ I paid for it.
