He chose not to because he wasn't as certain in his sources at the time. That's how most professional insiders operate.
I've seen him post before countless times that he has no insider information on stuff. Why should I expect to suddenly take credit for stuff? And before anything else, no, I don't give Vergeben credit for staying silent on Richter.

And his reputation for burned badly both with the first DLC character not being a Square rep, and inaccurate info regarding Dragonball FighterZ.
burned badly
So apparently, Verg's rep got screwed for one detail and stuff from a completely unrelated game (that's months older than his Smash stuff nonetheless), yet Ryce, a guy who never leaked Smash stuff, couldn't call the Mind Stone right, completely missed Ant-Man from the roster, and couldn't tell Monster Hunter was DLC even though he could tell Venom like that, is a superior authority? Sorry, but I'll have to disagree big time there.

Now before more else, I don't want you to think I'm being hostile on any matters. This is a discussion topic after all, and I suppose this topic can be talked just fine so long as both parties remain civil. It ain't my intention to criticize one's position.

Nemuresu Nemuresu No one is forcing you to choose who to support. I'm simply stating how Verge's lackluster track record outside of Smash Ultimate's base roster, compared to Ryce's track record overall has more people trusting the latter.
Ryce never leaked Smash stuff...?

Welp, my hype for Steve continues to maintain its balance.
Might wanna keep it capped. He claims that he knew pretty much most of what Vergeben knew, and he has no reason to lie.

He simply chose not to leak it due to uncertainty and himself being more careful than Vergeben.

Yeah, I was gonna ask... what's his track record with Smash? I've never heard him say anything in regards to it.

I wasn't even talking about choosing positions at all. My only reason to say that stuff about Ryce was just to bring my own cents into discussion, which of course, could result into a talk of its own. And that's what topics are for, to discuss.

Hey guys. Something interesting to note:

Nintendo just announced on Twitter the release dates for Yoshi’s Crafted World (March 29th) and Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn (March 8th).

So that may/may not affect the chance of a Direct soon.
That looks bad for a direct on the 10th. That's unfortunate.

I wouldn't put much weight to that, after all we give Vergeben a lot of **** when he does the same.

He definitely ain't one here, as I'm still left to see any proof that he has any track record on Smash. And it's not like he's some nobody to just not notice when he leaks info, as MvCI has proven.

Pretty sure Vergeben didn't say that. Dunno who that was, but it's definitely not the same topic.
Lemme clarify:
I believe Verge 100%. I am not sure he's right on Minecraft (check my sig; I'd love him to be) and that's it.
I do think it's silly to completely throw out Ryce.

Unless Ryce knows every DLC or his sources claim to, I don't trust him; he probably only doesn't buy it because he hasn't heard it and doesn't believe it due to bias, for all I know.

And, y'all aren't believing the recent leak since it claims to know all the DLC, I may as well believe Ryce doesn't know 'em all, either.

In that case, Vergenen hasn't been proven to be trustworthy on those terms either, rega regarding the Smash DLC. Not to mention the fact that he hasn't even acted certain on Steve being in. At most, he's said Minecraft content, only being specific about s supposed boss fight of which we haven't seen and have no reason to believe, given the annouced contents of the DLC packs.

Exactly. It goes both ways.

It's the Dragon Quest Builders protagonist.
  1. It explains why Nekoo heard the rep was "Hero".
  2. It explains the "Minecraft content".
  3. It explains the possible chibi-ness.
  4. It explains why tansut says they have male and female alts
  5. And if they were wearing the legendary armor it'd explain their weight stat.
Look into your heart.

(I kid.)
This kills two birds with one stone for me. Shoe horns the Minecraft and the Dragon Quest speculations in one slot and leaves the other free for the taking. Brilliant.

Tbh I feel Minecraft is likely even without leaks backing it up; Verg doesn't claim to know everything or have heard about all of the DLC, either.

Unless we just get all Japanese third-parties, then I have to see more fan-rules that make NoJ and Sakurai seem prejudiced...

It seems that tomorrow would be the last sensible day they could announce a direct for the 10th, if there is one we can hope to see a few new titles at least.

Really? Because it never seemed like the community found it likely until it could supposedly leaked.... and that was orginally for the base roster at that.

I'm not citing fan rules, nor even saying Steve is impossible, but currently he doesn't have solid evidence really backing him. He's just as likely or unlikely as most other candidates.

It's had support before. Leaks make things more notable, sure, but Minecraft in Smash was already discussed in Smash 4 times. The game being such a hate-magnet made it look like a joke though.

Hmm, true, that new Bravely Default game could likely make an appearance.

Support=/= actually expecting it.

The community didn't care because most people around here hated the idea (and had excuses like "he wouldn't work, his limbs are too stiff" when they could still make that work (especially since his limbs can move in every direction, if they'd pay attention to the different animations in the game)), with some people simply not thinking about it. Some Minecraft fans (probably a lot) and a lot of Miiverse users even wanted Steve in the game.

Now that Minecraft is on Nintendo systems, Nintendo seems to promote it a little, Sakurai seems to think it's excellent/love it (to the point he was surprised it came in 2nd somewhere, probably eShop I forgot (in America), while Stardew Valley hit number one - he has his own article about Minecraft), and it's immensely popular everywhere including Japan, I see Minecraft as having a big chance at getting something in Smash at the very least.

I feel like if they have a direct coming they'd just wait and announce it there. Why announce a release date two days before a direct?
You could argue both ways, especially since they’re 2 of Nintendo’s biggest early 2019 titles and are releasing in only 2 months.

They’re gonna reiterate that in some kind of Direct.
I could see this too. I didn't think of that.

Eh, honestly it's nice logic, but really there's nothing making it look more likely significantly. It currently has just as much a shot as Ace Attorney with Phoenix Wright, Solaire from DS, Ezio, etc. You get the idea.

Well, I mean, it certainly has as much of a chance as other big-names (due to how they may select characters) if not somewhat more...

I guess I just get a little sensitive about it, a favorite game of mine, and sometimes I see people downplaying it because "lol bad fanbase" or other dumb reasons that just sound like excuses, or "ugly textures" (which could be fixed simply with the website's and merchandise's art style, although I wouldn't mind the game's actual look either) or the "wouldn't work, stiff limbs" thing I addressed before. One person even said they couldn't see Nintendo capitalizing on a big game like it...even though they've literally capitalized on big games and characters before (and c'mon, it's Minecraft, really...?).

Let's not kid ourselves and pretend any of those series are as big a deal as Minecraft
Minecraft has sold over 140 million copies. It's literally one game released in the late 2000's.
I know this isn't the Steve thread but Minecraft definitely has a good damn bit going for it.

(to clarify; I love me some Phoenix Wright, just none of those three really stack up to Minecraft overall)

IT COULD STILL WORK!
I accept everything except Tiz's Bravely Second outfit. It sucks. And Ringabel's Dark Knight should be without a helmet. Just a preference. If CERO's all no no no no no no no towards Agnes's Vestal Garb, the pope outfit would suffice as you picked.

First time posting as I felt I have something to add to the conversation.

I don't know if this is a similar use of the word from the datamine but Sora's valour form from kh2 is named brave form in the Japanese version of the game.

If the Brave character is a square enix character, it's probably a BD character, Erdrick or Sora

On the contrary. I think they did this to take stuff out of the way for the upcoming Direct to talk about other stuff. Doing it now seems to suggest that there may be something very soon.

I want a 6th game in a series remade.
Given S-E is not Squaresoft, and will very likely murder VII very soon (saying that as someone who is hyped for the Remake regardless), for the good of the game and brand:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

That game might come out after a localized Mother 3 at this point.

And it definitely ain’t coming to Switch, considering it’s barely a thing on PS4.
I bet you anything that FFVIIR is coming to a Nintendo console, most likely the Switch, in 2020, 2021 at most.
And honestly, a Remake trailer in a Direct would probably be the most hype thing for me since I saw the reveal for Mario Odyssey and BotW.

We've already well established though, that the girth of one's sales doesn't dictate their likelihood. Again, nothing really makes Minecraft notably "more likely". Lord knows, people weren't expecting Joker because of similar reasons.
Again, until something concrete comes up, they're all on the same level. No more and no less. Obviously considering how Sakurai has spoken highly of Ace Attorney, Dragon Quest, etc.
