Brawl is fun and all, but does anyone play soul calibur 4 here? It's got a much higher learning curve than smash but it's still fun even if you are a noob :D

Amy's hawt.... no really, she's hawt, I don't care what anyone thinks. <3

I enjoy ring out combos. . . . yep. . . they are so much fun.
I'll agree, but at least it's not as bad as Soul Calibur II Link's ring out grab, that's just broken. >.<

I'll agree with that, about Link's grab. It is stupidly good at ring-outs.

Soul Calibur 4 is pretty fun, though I'm even more amateur at it than I am at Brawl. I don't know anything about the game beyond most of my characters' moves, so nothing about metagame. I play Kilik, who's been my main since the day I first played 2, Sophitia, who is just too good, Raphael, because I can be decently effective with a few moves with him, and Xianghua because she's fun. I played Talim in 2, but she was dead for me in 3, and is usually dead to me in 4 unless I'm feeling particularly masochistic. Also, I'm learning Amy, who's a lot of fun.

I played a little bit of 2, but just spammed and in 4 i play knightmare. I don't really 'play' knightmare so much as i 'lose with' knightmare. But yeah it's a really fun game if you can find someone on your skill level :D

Crash, were you referring to the doom combo, by chance o.O

I play it.

Saying it has a higher learning curve that smash (melee and brawl) doesnt say much, most games played in tourney do. But all in all, SC4 isnt really that great.

Playing it casually is ok. Actually, it's pretty fun, but some of the stuff that's in the game is just absurd.

__

And Doom Combo? Oh god doom combo. It's kinda ironic how Hilde isnt exactly broken or anything, but DC is still dumb in it's own right.

Guarenteed 1/3rd of your life, if you dont get rung out first. The only thing that really keeps it from being busted is that she has to have a B charge (which loses to B throws), and C3B is mad steppable anyway (Hell, you can WALK the **** move if you really want to).

__

But in the end, SC4 is aight. It's fun.

It's hilarious listening to people say that the most unsafe character in the game is "ridiculously broken because she's so fast"

^_^

(I normally play Cass for tourneys, though)

As for the doom combo you have to play gay lol some people dont play gay enough. Its all about them throws and 50 50 setups. Charge 2 shouldnt relaunch though. Im a yoshi main lol. Its awesome how you can be completely random with stances and still look cool. Plus his just frames are awesome. I love IMCF and the stone fist. He has a move thats like metronome from pokemon where he spits out tekken moves based on the clock and he can heal.
Yoshi rocks.

Yeah, it's pretty depressing. It's kinda like melee for me, I play a buncha nobodys for the most part.

Then I randomly decide to go to a tourney. But the problem with that is I live in GA, so that means im going to run into ATL.

And running into the likes of RTD and JTO in tourney is NOT a pleasant experience. XD

I absolutely hated SC4. It felt wrong to me, after the beauty that was 2 and 3. In 3 I could juggle with the Barb and Tira until KO. Two had a lot of good memories, and one is Link's ring out grab. That coupled with the Megaton Hammer for spanking if they fall short. :D

SC4 had little to no storyline, really bad "tower" thing and the online play was mediocre at best. The only fun thing to do online was laugh at the people screaming at you for playing Yoda or playing as custom chars and dominating because I had UB3R health Talim and super strong Kilik.

I mained Talim in 2, Barb and Tira in 3 and 4 I was the S&M lookin' chick that had the moveset of Cervantes. XDD

Well, you can't expect ANY fighter to have a good story. Look at smash (including brawl: subspace is garbage...) and things like SF. I couldn't play tournamanet level EVER. People are just too good at knowing how to punish/Gi/JF and whatnot.

But yeah.

SC4 is fun and all, but I suck complete a** hole at it.

The only way I can play other players is online, and I seriously dont think that I've ever won. It's depressing for me really. I'm really good at smash and almost all shooters, but I can't get a grasp on this game. (Mainly executing combos properly. Timing is hard as hell to get on that game imo.) -.-

If anyone isnt mega pro at the game and wants to play me. Add me gamertag below and send me a message so we can play sometime. :)

I agree with My Cat Owns. Expecting a fighter to have a decent, rational story, especially when it feels the need to have a bunch of random people all end up at the same place fighting each other with motives and backstories all connected, is just too much. When people try to take the story in a fighter seriously, bad things happen. Bad things like Soul Calibur: Legends. Such a terrible, terrible game. The only redeeming thing in it also made the least sense, and that was having Lloyd Irving as a guest character. Lloyd is full of win, but his presence makes no sense.

Who do you play? I'm no pro, but I might be able to show you some things (X, Knightmare, Tira, Zas?)

I never got good at SC, I thought I was a halfway acceptable Raphael but the only person I played with was semi pro and got my butt kicked every time so it wasn't very fun even know I had the 70-30 matchup.

I spammed with Asty but that wasnt actualy playing and I attempted Lizzyman but I did best with ralph defintley

Why, I do play this game.

Voldo, Yun, and Nightmare are my mains. I used to play a bunch, but now I don't have anyone on my friends list who still plays it. I used to be fairly decent too...

o.o I don't remember any Cass combos but I know 4AA:B is reallly good for comboing. It adds like 40 damage and isn't excrutiatingly hard to pull off.
Yea, it has a just input and it's easy to setup via 26B.

But the one I was referring to is where you knock them is much more damaging, and extremely sexy. And it starts with a low.

Yeah I stopped playing cass because I felt she didn't have enough range. I then picked up knightmare and it's hard for me to play any other character :D

I only played SC2 seriously, and I mained Raphael. After seeing how they nerfed him in SC3, I gave up on the games. Lol.

Besides, SC3 was crap compared to 2. Is 4 any good?

4 is better than 3 from a competitive point of view, as I've heard. 3 was pretty much broken beyond the point of playability, or something like that. 4 is good though.

Raphael is a lot of fun in 4 for me, though I don't play him completely seriously. My game revolves around sidestepping attacks and following up with his grabs that involve vampire neck-biting. It's hilarious.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong but 3 had 100% combos, right? 4 has damage scaling to prevent any combos from doing more than like half health (and if they pull off a combo that does this kind of damage, at least one stun should be shakeable).

But yeah, I've never played 3 so I couldn't tell you if it was 'better', but I know it's really fun and probably a little more fair.

I loved SC2, and was pretty good with Talim & Link iirc, so as soon as I got a PS3 I got this game.

Right now I main Ivy, mainly because of how much range she has and how flashy her moves are :D.

You mean Cass's 4BB:A. Although it's not like, the most important move in her moveset, it's a general fact that "If you cant 4BB:A consistantly, dont try to play cass seriously."

I could sum 4BB:A like this. "If you ever land a move, and dont know what your options are afterwards, 4BB:A is probably one of them, if not the answer for it."

Like literally, everything basically leads to 4BB:A

236, 236, 4BB:A
3B, 4BB:A
66B+G, 4BB:A
66B, 4BB:A
I could keep going.

But then you have hilariously awesome combos like this one
236, i236,
i236, i236, 4BB:A -wallslam-, i236, i236, i236, 4BB:A.

That's that Cass gold right there.

4 is better than 3 from a competitive point of view, as I've heard. 3 was pretty much broken beyond the point of playability, or something like that. 4 is good though.
Yeah, it's called Variable Cancelling
And granted they were normally banned (or atleast "game breaking variable cancels, atleast), the ones that were left, along with some of the game mechanics basically broke the SC3 community apart.

Although some people stayed around and made kool stuff happen

All in all, alot of people actually dont like 4 more than they like 3 because of 4's buffering, lack of movement, somewhat flaky hit detection, and "personal" other reasons (i.e. people hate Hilde. XD)

So it's not like 4's amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but people consider it "the lessor of 2 evils".

Raphael is a lot of fun in 4 for me, though I don't play him completely seriously. My game revolves around sidestepping attacks and following up with his grabs that involve vampire neck-biting. It's hilarious.
I think that's comical because Raph is a character that gets annhilated by step. (He basically has NO good options vs step/sidewalk)

Not knockin' your play or anything, just makin a lil joke.

I just started playing again and I've been playing a lot more serious this time around, before I just played and looked up combos in Training now I'm looking into more advanced stuff like setups the effective combos and frames I'm playing Astaorth so its hard to get used to playing him but I hope I can get past the noob stage.

I just picked this up a few days ago, and it seems like a really fun game. I'm pretty bad at this game, but eh.

I'm playing Darth Vader until I can buy Yoda (even though's he's absolute trash in the game) lol, aah well.

I play SC4 every now and then, but not seriously or competitively. I really just enjoy seeing what kind of characters I can make in "soul calibur form", namely a ton of Zelda fools. The story mode is absolutely terrible, and I'm not all that fond of Star Wars characters being in it (despite how huge a Star Wars fan I am). The only thing that could have alleviated the misplacement of Yoda, Vader, and Marek would be if you could use their movesets in character creation to make your own Jedi and Sith.

Maybe I'll get some pics of the characters I've made just for the hell of it.

I know more abot this game then i need to. aesthetically its bad but competively its pretty good. I need to go to a tournament and truly get my butt kicked. I know yoshi inside and out including his frame data.
Havent played it in a minute but i would like to play it. Only thing is the scene (like melee) in ft worth is very small

Asta in 4 is pretty straightforward. Fairly solid character, too.

Strats pretty much involve zoning people out, bullrushing them towards ringout, and setting up 63214 B+G (If you play anybody good, you realistically are going to be setting up 63214 A+G, as they're not going to want to get grabbed by 63214 B+G. EVER.) Get the JFs on the grabs down, too. 5 frame breaks on jf? YES.

6K -> 2B+K, A+G is the most hilarious thing in the world.

And snaggin anybody with 1A+G is GOLD.

What SC4 are you talking about?! >.> The game is pretty bad because of some super wack hitboxes and shaky hit detection. I'm literally known in my area for my ability to duck BBs and step step-killers. Makes no sense.

Then it breaks down into people's bias against the game. "How did Hilde make it past playtesting?" "Why does Kilik's Asura exist?" etc etc.

~~

The scene EVERYWHERE for the game is pretty small. AFAIK, the only place that has a real solid group is in NY where they do the kogarasumaru monthlies.

It's not entirely the game's fault, though. SC4 already had a small pool of returning fans to feed from thanks to SC3. :/

True hildes bs and some attacks do whiff (trust me as yoshi i have pulled my hair out when i miss a 66b after ear slicer. but the hit detection isnt THAT bad it only exists for certain characters like x, rock and a couple of others.
Also Festival of the dammed into Guard break asura is hilarious . It has as much ring out potiential as the doom combo :chuckle:
