Hey guys, do you think Sakurai will stop making updates after awhile since the release date changed? It's not like he can put 60 updates out of thin air =/

Hmmm.. Since they are probably making the game deeper...

And most updates are barely scratching the surface of the game...

I think its easy.. If not he can just make videos all day.

Let's evaluate, ok?
July, - Sakurai announced Brawl would release on December 3rd, 2007
October, - Sakurai announced Brawl would release February 10th, 2008.
Do you really think that in 2 and a half months, they decided to squeeze in Sonic and delay the game, when since LAST SUMMER, Nintendo has been discussing with third parties the rights to characters? Sonic wasn't something just thought up in the past 2 months and then they said "oh well since we're putting him in let's delay the game" he must have been planned for at least the past 9 months.

The most logical reason for them delaying is that the closer it got to launch, the more they realized they want to increase the depth and content of the game, and that just won't happen by the end of November (when the game is supposed to go Gold and sent to manufacturing). I was watching the updates and stuff, and I seriously doubted how they could get the game as deep and jampacked as Melee was by the end of November. There weren't enough stages, items, game modes or characters announced in my opinion, and I felt they needed to work on it longer.

Since Nintendo is not like Sony or Microsoft where they can just release downloadable patches/updates/content, once a game releases, that's as good as it gets. So it's better to give them a little time to perfect and absolutely cram as much content as possible into the DVD than get something a month or so earlier that lacks a lot of stuff a little patience could have rewarded us with.

If you think about it, it's not that long. With Mario Galaxy and the bazillion other games out there for 2007, there should be other stuff occupying your time. Then you only got December, January, and about a week of February to play Brawl.

I am upset about the delay (mostly because they absolutely emphasized and promised it would be here before 2008) but if it's for the better of the game (like smoothing and fixing out online play) then I'm all for it a month or so of waiting.
I think that Sonic was being put in Brawl around August 2006 (The legalese was sort of a tradeoff involving the Olympics and Brawl). A response from Sakurai also had to do with Smashbros being compared to the Olympics(http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=72642) also clarifies that it probably was even earlier.

Aside from Sonic, I'm sort of glad that Brawl was delayed, because they were getting behind on the updates.

Read the article I posted. It says in there about a lot of new things fans don't know about that are being added to Brawl.

Funniest part:

WN: Does this have anything to do with online play?

PK: Next question.

WN: Does this have anything to do with online play?

PK: No, a different question.

WN: Those are the next five questions.

PK: After those, then.

I agree with the other guy.
If they can make updates out of "Hey! Boxes and crates actually SLIDE AROUND THE STAGE NOW. WOW!", you can bet your bottom-dollar they can make it until February 9th with Smash updates.

I think it'd be rather epic if they announced their biggest secret on the morning of February 10th :D

He's got so much stuff to cover that is shown in the demos. The Final Smashes, the movesets, the items, the ATs, the Pokéball Pokémon, the new features, etc. etc. etc. If anything, he'll be putting in double and triple updates more often. Definitely.

O, and if there aren't at least 42 or 43 oon up characters, I will be HEAVILY DISAPPOINTED!

Large Character Roster > Online > Large # of Stages > Adventure Mode > Trophies > AT's > Items (minus the Bumper, because it's the most important thing EVER!) > Pokéball Pokémon, etc.

Ya, it's more important than online. While I love the idea of a deep in depth adventure mode, large character roster is more important. And if we get a full fledged adventure mode, and less than 42 or 43 characters, WITH A 2 MONTH DELAY, I'll be disappointed, and inclinded to think Sakurai lost track of wat is important, and that Brawl isn't going to stand a chane of being more revolutionary then Melee. Definitely.

I really don't see what the big deal is. HELLO PEOPLE!!! The more time they have to work on SSBB, the better it's gonna be.

Some of you act like you have no lives, and the world ended when you heard Brawl was delayed.

Bite your tongue! You mean to tell me you would like another year of waiting to play Zelda in Brawl?!
I guess I should say if they delay it and it's a company I can trust. Then yes it's worth it. for the better products

However a company like blizzard, making a delay only dissappoints me. I may be biased on this view but everytime I hear a delay from Blizzard I imagine 25 nerds in big room playing games and making jokes while drinking beer.

Did any else noticed the week full of character updates?
Did anyone else notice how we get Sonic's profile RIGHT before the news of the delay?

Sakurai obviously knows we like characters and hate game delays.
I mean, I'm stoked about Sonic, but it seems like Sakurai is trying to bribe us.

/end rant.
Duh. It's like a husband giving his wife a diamond ring, then whispering into her ear: "I've been cheating on you..."

Hey. I'm leaving the country for two years this January. I have such a busy life, that the fact that Brawl was delayed means I don't get it now for two years. I have the right to complain!

Btw, If anyone here loved Resident Evil 4?

Well did you know they were gonna make a online multiplayer (Whether it's Co-op, or vs I don't know), but since they "ran out of time" for their release date was approaching they didn't add it? I WOULD HAVE WAITED ANOTHER YEAR if I could play online with people fighting some Ganados as a team.

Waits are worth it. Unless the wait is result of laziness.

Currently: lost in the realm of Akanea.
I'm pretty upset about this too! He'd better be hyping it out like he says! I already pre-ordered the game, and I was expecting to get it right after my last performance (I'm in a musical) as a nice reward for doing such a good job! and i mean, After all that happened at E3, How could they pull something like this? Man it's like twilight princess all over again! THAT was delayed for like.. .two years!

I know it sucks and everything and that it is so hard to be patient with such a thing so anticipated and awaited for. But think of how they will make the game better. I mean, after they publish the game out they won't be able to update it or anything. This will make our brawl experience all the more worthwhile waiting. And besides, I can wait for Brawl because for now I love Melee! :)

Why yes, I did notice this.

Did anyone else notice how we get Sonic's profile RIGHT before the news of the delay?
Why yes, I also noticed this. Strange questions you're asking here. They seem a little redundant. Let me try..

Did you notice how we got Pit's final smash update a while back?

Oh you did eh.. yea me too- I noticed this as well... We're like twins with eachother.

Sakurai obviously knows we like characters and hate game delays.
omg I know right? Like it's totally obvious. We ain't foolin nobody.

I mean, I'm stoked about Sonic, but it seems like Sakurai is trying to bribe us.
I don't think you know what the word "bribe" really means. Nothing he has done on the site comes remotely close to being anything related to a "bribe".
I think what you may have meant to say is "it seems like Sakurai is trying to make us feel better about the bad news by putting up lots of good news."

Ok, well, ya... It probably should SEEM like this because that's pretty much the exact reason he gave for giving us good news.

/end rant.

Honestly, I thought this whole thread was a MadTV- style joke.
I was waiting for a punchline, and then I saw this.

A rant.. how interestingly absurd. Oh well; I'll just pretend you were joking and laugh to myself.

I try to put myself in Sakurai's shoes when I think about the delay.

This game is so incredibly hyped up that the expectations are just out of this world. The gaming industry and fans are expecting this to be a big one. Melee was praised highly and now its sequel has to surpass even that. He's honestly renovating everything about the game and trying to make it everything we're expecting it to be. This delay is more than justified.

Am I happy about it? Not really. It does take it out of finals week and gives me more free time to play. After Brawl has been so acclaimed even before its release, it makes me expect big things from Sakurai; heck, we all are. So why criticize him for taking extra time to make Brawl everything that we want and expect it to be? I'm sure when February rolls around and we're smashing it up in multiplayer or Subspace, we'll say to ourselves that the extra delay wasn't bad considering we've got the single-most kick *** game ever created.

And its not bribery; its tactics. He knew it would be a bombshell to let us know we wouldn't be getting it in 2007 like he promised so he wanted to give us something to show that he's working around the clock to get this project to perfection. What better way than to please the fans than by showing off one of the most requested playable characters? You have to admit Sonic was the talk of the day, rarely anyone noticed that the release date on the site had been changed until Friday's update.

Case in point, I know this game is going to be amazing. I can wait for an amazing game.

We need to think long-term on this people. This game is looking bigger and bigger with each passing day. The single player, multiplayer, snapshots, probably 35+ playable characters with original movesets, massive stages that keep changing, 3rd party characters...the list goes on. This may potentially be one of the most complete/well-rounded games of all time when it finally comes out..a true masterpiece.

Sure, two more months may hurt now...but we will be playing this game for many years to come. I want this game to be as perfect as it can be when it comes out. We just have to be patient and trust Sakurai when he says the game needed more time (he hasn't dissapointed us with the previous games, has he?)

BELIEVE lol.

The only way Sakurai could dissapoint me if delay it even further (anytime June 08 or beyond), takes out Snake and Sonic, removes Final Smashes, throws out the soundtrack in place for a soundtrack produced by Panic at the Disco!, includes Naruto Uzumaki, making the online play dial-up only, makes all the characters I desire (Ridley, WW Link, King Dedede, Takamaru, Geno, Black Knight, Micaiah, and Lip) into Assist Trophies, and make the Nintendog God-tier.

So basically, Sakurai has a .0000001 chance of dissapointing me.

well OF COURSE we hate game delays.... who doesnt? its good that atleast he gave us better updates this week. like, man i cant believe brawl is delayed... but atleast we know sonic is so awesome!

i dont exactly see how thats a bribe. he had bad news he HAD to tell us, so he tried to help make it up with better news. would u rather a week of updates about ATs, pokemon, and items, and hear of a delay?
Ah. What a wonderful post.
Sakurai is not "bribing" us. It is not a "bribe" in any way. He is simply trying to make us feel a little better, because he knows a lot of us are die-hard Smash fanatics that are crushed by news of game delays.

Sakurai tried to give us a little sunshine in our week, because he had to announce the delay SOME time. He just chose the time that would disappoint us the least.

Despite the announcement of the game delay, this has been the best week yet. I mean - we get Sonic. Amazing beyond my dreams. We get two amazing videos. We all see his moves. Then, we get a butt-load of amazing gameplay footage, assist trophies, movesets, levels, items, and final smashes. Seeing Peach's final smash was amazing enough but seeing Sonics as well made it even more epic. Also we got to see how both Ike, Diddy Kong, Metaknight, and Sonic played. This week was the best so far. I look foward to even better weeks down the road.

You know what I hate? Games that don't meet their full potential due to lack of development time, which Melee (though awesome in every sense of the word) falls into. Do you wantt he game now or later with it's full potential?

Wait.

With all that extra time, we're gonna start seeing some stupid updates.....just my prediction. Either that or he shows unlockable stuff and spoil the game, which would infuriate me

So you'd rather NOT have any updates?
I'd rather him just update on stuff that will be there from the beginning. I love the updates. I hate spoilers. I don't even care if he spoils something minor, I just like the game to retain an element of suprise. Like how awesome will it be when you're playing through the game and you see "Challenger Approaching" out of nowhere, and you discover that one of your most wanted characters is actually in the game? FREAKING AWESOME.

Well imagine if it had been some item update and then the delay was announced with it?

I'm very satisfied with how Sakurai did it.. the best way possible.

Besides... the delay is fine with me. I'll more then likely be able to get and play it the day it's released. Though it's a long time away... :/
Yes..."Snapshot" mode "eases my pain".

Yea, I think the delay is just better in the long run. Nintendo has to get the game right the first time, because, correct me if I'm wrong, but they can't even update the game with patches or anything can they?

I love game delays....

It means a better product is coming out. I don't mind if they said the game is delayed for another year. But like 3-4 years is pushing it... like Starcraft Ghost... 5 years of waiting and they didn't even make it. what a waste of my time waiting for a game lol.

Cut the bull. Nobody, and I mean nobody likes delays. It doesn't have to upset you where you go on a warpath on a message board about it, but I bet if Brawl were out today you wouldn't sit at home waiting to buy it three months from now while everyone is buying and playing it.

I myself am not angry about the delay as hyped as I am about the game. Yet I don't think myself or anyone else went "OMG YES!" when the words "Febuary 10 were uttered".

Thing's like "They're taking out glitches" and "At least the game is going to get better" are just things to try to console yourself, or justify the development team's delay.

Exactly what I was thinking.

The only glitches in melee that needed to be taken out were the invisible ceiling glitch and the glitches that made you fall through the stage. Everything else was impossible to find unless you went on the internet searching for them.

if you got enough free time to complain here while waiting, you could be doing something productive. (unlike me right now)

sides, look at it this way: at least you not dead and still have cognitive thought. so you can play it when it comes out.

i tink sonic is one of the causes of delay...
_____ Welcome to smashboards, new user ^_^

On a side note, why do you think that? When you post try to evaluate, it is not like they just decided one day that sonic would be in the game, so they delayed it. They have known for a while, they don't tell us the update as they code it, Or else they might have to take back what they said and change it. Kinda like a game delay >_>
