YAY!!!

Oh, now I need to decide which one to get.

Black Knight or Adventure 2?

Aw man.

:135:
I'd recommend Black Knight. I personally liked SA2's gameplay more overall, but Black Knight has a really fun story with great dialogue. The atmosphere is also very unique, and it works out well. It's the better pick by a very slight margin if you ask me.

You WERE pretty coo!

Nah, but thanks!
I just bodied someone on fg that was pretty decent and consistently beating me....
almost 0-deathed his first stock and took no damage on his first stock.. wow.
It was with Luigi though.....
I expected more from you, LuigiMaster0.

I guess I'll share my thoughts on the games

Sonic 1: Finally beat it 100% recently (on iOS, but I made it as close to the original setting as possible). Fun, but didn't really meld speed and platforming well (save Green Hill and Starlight). Really loved this version of the special stage.

Sonic 2: **** the special stages. Hands down my least favorite in the series. I now it was the precursor to every following one, but I just hate how needlessly difficult they are (Tails). Only made it to Wing Fortress because I can't make it past this one jump; I remember burning 3 continues on it. Anyway, much better level design and boss design. It fit the speed much better.

Sonic CD: Hated at first, but the exploration grew on me. I like how the levels are designed to be explored with the time mechanics. Also has 2 soundtracks, so I can't go wrong there. I don't like the perspective of the special stages tho, it's a bit disorienting. The bosses, while unique, were all awkward at best.

Sonic 3&K: THE definitive 2D Sonic game IMO. Great level design, music, variety, speed, music, and bosses. It has IMO the best special stages in the series. I'd be happy to play this several times over.

Sonic 3D Blast (Gen): Very underrated. I like the gameplay here with the searching aspect as well as the environments. I also have a fondness for the Special Stages. 100%-ed it a couple years ago.

Sonic Game Gear games: Haven't really played much. I can't get past the first Zone in Sonic 2, Sonic Triple Trouble seems like the best so far, and Sunset Park 3 from STT, Option menu from Sonic Drift 2, and ESPECIALLY the final boss theme of Sonic Labyrinth have amazing themes. Seriously they are fantastic.

Sonic Adventure: Extremely rough, but fun nonetheless. Love the exploration aspect of it, especially in Big's stages funnily enough. The missions also add a lot as well. My complaints are that there aren't a lot of Amy stages (I liked her control style), Chaos 4, and the lack of Chaos Drives for chao.

Sonic Adventure 2: My favorite game. Everything that they lifted from SA2 was improved tenfold (save the hunting radar). Speed levels are even more fast and control like a charm, shooting take out the pesky time limit, and hunting stages have greatly improved mobility. The hero/dark sides leave a great sense of mystery that concludes wonderfully in last story, multiplayer is very diverse, Chao Garden is INFINITELY improved and is the best part of the game, to say nothing of the music or story. I'd say the only bad things in the game are most of Rouge's levels, but even then I like Security Hall very much.

Sonic Advance Series: I had a terrible habit of losing them, so I don't remember much. For 1, Amy was difficult to play save the ice boss, the Special Stages were disorienting, and it was my first Sonic game. For 2, Cream was broken, **** getting to the special stages, and the 5th boss was even more ridiculous than anything else. Also gottagofast. 3 was the one I actually beat 100%. Felt like a spiritual successor to Sonic CD and sequel to Sonic Battle (also fantastic). The team up mechanic was really fun and varied and the music was the best of the sub series, especially Chaos Angel.

Sonic Heroes: Metal Sonic ftw. I like the speed, fly, power system that was brought into the series here and I love the special stages here too. It was also rather difficult compared to past games. Wasn't a fan of the egg pawns designs tho.

Shadow the Hedgehog: Love the morality system in the game as well as the hidden key rewards. Story was a bit of a mess, but I liked trying to find what I thought was the canon line for the game (Neutral, Neutral, Dark, Hero, Dark, Hero, Final if you're curious with my results. The other levels are filled in by the partner characters). Also love the concepts of light dash trails and not losing every ring.

Sonic Rush: The music was weird in this one. Very difficult because of the speed, but fun. I wish Tails and Cream were playable tho. Blaze was a fun alt to Sonic.

Sonic Rivals: Like the large relative playable roster for its time (i.e. Post-'06) so that's good. Not the best PSP game I own however.

Sonic '06: I'm in the minority of people who love this game. The music is fantastic, the character variety is great, and while the learning curve is steep the gameplay is fun once you get the hang of it. The story was even more of a mess to wrap one's mind around, but I enjoyed the presence of Mephilis. Only complaints are that there is no Chao Garden and it is unfinished. Otherwise it would be a quintessential Sonic Adventure 3.

Sonic Rush Adventure: Upset again that Tails wasn't playable. The level design felt roughly the same as Rush, but the bosses were FAR better designed with some of the most fun ones in the series. Also I liked the boat mini games.

Sonic Unwiished: the homing attack should NEVER be off the jump button. Also didn't like the non permanent boosts. The gameplay was fun otherwise I guess and I liked the night time exploration, save the darn battle theme.

Sonic Unleashed: Have it, but never played it. I'll get around to it eventually.

Sonic 4 Ep. 1: Extremely fun. I love the return of the spinning special stage and find the level design really good. The boss battle remixes were also done well.

Sonic Colors Wii: ehh...I would have preferred a 3D Sonic game. The wisps are a cool addition I guess. Also marks the first Pontaff story, which isn't a good thing IMO.

Sonic Colors DS: Extremely short. I completely it on the way to the airport. Was perhaps the best controlled Rush game I've played. Also had a fun assortment of wisps.

Sonic Generations: One of the best definitely. The nostalgia was complemented by the fantastic gameplay, one of the best Modern Sonic controls. Wish that partner characters had more use and an actual story by people who actually know Sonic's history, but I digress. The HD final boss was terrible, and Big Arm was an insult to its song, but the other bosses were great. Regarding stages, Mushroom Hill should have been replaced with anything else (Lava Reef, Ice Cap, etc), an advance stage should be added (Egg Rocket Zone), Heroes should have Egg Fleet, and Colors 3D should have anything else (Asteroid Coaster, Starlight Carnival).

Sonic 4 Ep 2: FINALLY a playable character other than Sonic! A big improvement over Ep 1 in most aspects. Exceptions being the non Metal Sonic bosses and Egg Heart. I feel that the Super 69 attack is extremely broken but the rest of the game is well designed.

Sonic Xtreme (Lost World): Nice change of pace. Pontaff story is getting much better, but it just dropped the ball SO HARD in the last few levels story wise. I know that gameplay was made before story, but to leave it at that level of anticlimax was just terrible. Other than that the game was good, if not having a high learning curve. The final boss was a joke tho. The new wisps weren't as fun as I thought either.

Sonic Lost World 3DS: Don't have it, but the final boss looks infinitely better.

Sonic and the Secret Rings: Music is hit or miss, but I like the customization aspect to it. The controls are a bit wonky, but I can get used to it.

Sonic and the Black Knight: MORE PLAYABLE CHARACTERS!!! Much much better. The controls are good, the music is amazing, the character choices are fun, the story has a nice twist. Overall great

Top 5:
1. Adventure 2
2. Generations
3. '06
4. 3&K
5. Advance 3

Those lyrics are hilarious.

Also yeah sonic adventure 2 over sonic and the black knight. If it being linear is the issue, well, black knight is even more linear in terms of levels

If I were you...Adventure 2.
Sonic Adventure 2 if you can find it. It's pretty much the best Sonic game EVER!
SA2 is infinitely superior to Black Knight. Don't even trip. :applejack:
uh

SA2

no questions there

I might get Black Knight after I complete SA2.

O, whoops.

It's alright! Though there were some jokes I didn't get.

Speaking of jokes, I don't get this either.

Black Knight is a decent game all around, but you're honestly not cheating yourself out of pretty much anything if you don't play it. :applejack:

I have this image saved from my 3DS Smash Bros. where I have Sonic on top of the Train in the Zelda train stage. And somehow I managed to have it so it looked like Peach has been hit by the front of the train and is stuck there like some of those old cartoons.

For a bit of fun, I captioned it. If this is useful to you guys in anyway. Feel free to keep it for yourselves. ^^

Guys, earlier today I played Sonic 1 on an emulator fully through with no save states, no breaks, and no deaths. I did a full no death run for the first time and I felt really good about it.

The only thing that didn't make it a perfect run was that I didn't get any chaos emeralds (although after a certain point I sorta avoided them).

Also best Sonic games IMO are Adventure, Unleashed HD, and 1.

Sonic 1 is just a game I can pick up and play whenever I want. It feels really fun to play and while the other genesis games improved upon the engine, Sonic 1 remains probably my most replayed game ever.

Sonic Adventure had hub worlds that were pretty great. They were small enough so that you don't get lost but big enough so that you have freedom to run around (I'm not kidding, I enjoy running in circles in these hub worlds). I also enjoy just going through Sonic's levels which feel fast and great (especially Emerald Coast, Windy Valley, Ice Cap, and Speed Highway). Most of the other playstyles were heavily enjoyable, and the one that wasn't so enjoyable was so short it didn't leave a negative taste in my mouth.

Sonic Unleashed HD was just a blast to play through. Werehog levels were flawed but encouraged exploration and had some pretty kinky combos you could pull off. Daytime levels were hyper, gorgeous, and tested your reactions. Also this game had hub worlds that were just as great as Mystic Ruins or Station Square.

So these three games are among my all time favorite video games. There are a few other Sonic games that I would rank as favorite games I've played (Generations, Adventure 2) but these I especially like.

I'll probably state my opinions on the other games later but I'm tired.

Sonic 1 is great for what it started but S3&K is just the best for me. But opinions are opinions~

On another note what would you guys think if the next sonic game is a mostly 2d one rather than a 3d one?

It's possible. So far any merchandise surrounding the big 25th Anniversery has suspiciously been all Classic Sonic stuff. Suggesting we may at least either get a Sonic Generations 2 or even a game that stars Classic Sonic. Not to mention Sega's doing their thing again where they apologized for recent disappointments and promise to bring Sonic back to his roots (Though they've said that for quite a few games apparently, Sonic 4 was one and that brought mixed results. Though honestly the only real bad thing about the game was naming it Sonic 4 in the first place, because it put such high expectations on the game) and I've heard they even said that prior to Sonic 06... which I think Sega must of really lost their minds at the time if they thought anything about Sonic 06 was bringing Sonic back to his roots...

Welcome.

All you have to do is lurk and post in a way that doesn't make us hate you and you'll blend right in.

I don't promote Skype groups through the boards anymore, so unfortunately I can't help you there.

I hope you're enjoying yourself thus far, though.

Reminds me of the days when Sawnik had fangs. Kind of a cool look in the updated CG.

Also Freedom Planet came out on Wii U in Europe yesterday. I got it even though I have it on Steam, as I wanna support it for a potential sequel.

I highly recommend it to any Sonic fan. I'm assuming most people here have Wii U's, so even if you aren't a PC gamer, you can at least get it on Wii U now.

Yeah, I heard. I been keeping up with Freedom Planet for a while now. Finally glad to see it released on WiiU. I'll be picking it up in a few days. I'm kinda surprised nobody has talked about it on here yet. I'm excited to finally get my hands on it.

I played the Wii U version for a bit yesterday, and it's identical to the Steam version. Only difference is that you can't re-bind the controls (a slight nitpick for me personally), and you can play on the GamePad (a good thing obviously).

I only played the demo :'(

But I'll be getting it in a few days so I don't care lol. Slim chance but could you imagine how good a collaboration with Sonic would be? Like, in 2020. Sega presents Freedom Unleashed DX: 2 Planet Battle.

I can't wait for the Milla Adventure Mode/Playable Torque DLC in December. Torque was one of my favourite characters in terms of the story and he looks to play like a Sonic/Mega Man X hybrid, so he should be a blast to play as.

I can tell Lilac will be my favorite. I kinda spoiled everything for myself, YouTube and all. Kinda mad I did that when I found out it was coming to WiiU but like Cinder from RWBY said "Just because you know how a story will end doesn't make it any less enjoyable"... or something like that.

I got to play as torque at pax south. I only hope they make him move faster than his horrid snails pace.

I really dislike carols gameplay. It's way too easy, and milla is even worse. Lilacs were It's at. :applejack:
