Most of the time when I played Sonic 2, I got all the way to the Death Egg, but it took me a long time to actually beat that final boss. I'd get all the way there and use up all of my lives and continues on it and still lose, and then not have the motivation to try again for a while. The first time I actually beat it was as Knuckles (with the Sonic & Knuckles add-on).First time I remember playing Sonic 2 - I think I was 4 years old - I Game Over'd at Casino Night Zone. Next time I played it (I never owned Sonic 2 until I got Sonic Mega Collection, I had to constantly rent it on the Genesis before that), I Game Over'd at Death Egg Zone. I beat the game around the 5th or 6th time I played it. I never really got caught in that difficulty hurdle I see other people talk about. Never freaked out about the rising Mega Mack in Chemical Plant either; I just saw it as a nuisance and thought to myself "oh, ok, just more reason to go up the blocks even faster."
The same went for me. Honestly, I don't know what Sega was thinking with that thing. I cannot count the number of times my sisters and I would get there and try all sorts of things to try and get through there, jumping up and down on it, using Tails to push it up and down even more, but we never thought to press up and down on it. We always dreaded getting to that point, because we knew we'd never be able to get past it.I never got past the barrel in Carnival Night Zone in Sonic 3 though when I was little. Never could figure it out. I could beat the game no sweat if I rented a copy of the game that had a save file at Ice Cap Zone or Launch Base Zone, but I could not get past that damn barrel.
I was never a fan. I guess it's a pretty cool design, but something about it just didn't click with me. I'm not terribly fond of the music, and something about the level always gave me a headache. Same thing always happened with Act 1 of the Sandopolis Zone. I think something about the bright, sunny, desert kind of atmosphere did it.How could you guy hate Oil Ocean? That's like one of the best Zones!
[yt]Ots9qU__OGo[/yt]Diamond Dust Zone Act 2 on the Genesis had the best music theme out of all the music in the Genesis games, no questions asked.
Wait, that's what you're supposed to do? Wow, never even thought of that >.<The same went for me. Honestly, I don't know what Sega was thinking with that thing. Actually, there is. It's a barrel that's against a wall and to the left of it is a platform that holds a monitor with a fire shield and a monitor with 10 rings. It does indeed react to the up and down presses. But the thing is, you can make it past that point with jumping and/or tails so it's not really much of a hint either.the barrel is the dumbest part in the game because of the fact that jumping up and down on it actually has an effect, so it fools you into thinking you can use that to get past it. also, no other object in the game reacts to the up/down buttons so it really makes no sense.
oh you.up and downand all around
That's what I mean. the earlier barrel can be passed by jumping.Actually, there is.
