Oh, Sonic does go into his Jumpsquat animation when using SideB as opposed to DownB... I never really realized the implications of that. That's... fantastic. SideB into JC grab sounds super sexy.

I've been watching videos of Sonics in tournaments and I keep seeing this technique where they down B and, it looks like, cancel it immediately on the ground so they can do other normals, specials, etc. I heard someone say that the sonic player is wavedashing right out of down B, but it looks too fluid to be that. If it is that and I just haven't gotten to the point where I can do it fast enough then just let me know, but if someone knows another way to do this, let me know.

It is wavedashing out of spindash, actually. The timing for it to look smooth is pretty strict imo, seeing as sonic doesn't go through his jump start-up animation during his Down-B. It's a lot easier (smoother by appearance) to perform wavedash out of spindash when you make contact with the opponent or their shield, due to hitlag. So yes, you just need to wavedash faster.

Yea, all wavedashes look that smooth when done at the fastest speed. It's pretty easy once your good at wavedashing.

So can we just gush about utilt for a little while? I never realized how much of a fantastic anti-air/platform poke it was. Hell, low percent combos into itself, and mid/extreme DI only sets up for Nair/Fair followups. Actually, all of Sonic's tilts are good.

Who knew there was something beyond this character than spin and FSmash.

It's useful for popping them up and towards you when they're a little out of reach. Of course it's not a go to move for starting something every time, but it certainly isn't useless or anything.

Well, they drastically changed all three and Ftilt and Dtilt are pretty much strictly better. I don't know who added an extra Zero on Ftilts kb growth but that move is like... incredastrong for no reason.
Strictly a rhetorical question based in a humorous observation.

Still, the reason it's incredastrong is because it's AWESOME, as Tero said. Actually I liken it to Mario's Bthrow in how well you can DI it, so it's not as potent against, well, potent opponents. That said, it's so much more useful and less situational than Mario's Bthrow, so it's pretty dang sexy.

I was playing ZZS as Sonic and as long as Sonic is in his standstill spin dash animation she will clank every time with her side b. Just a small little information nugget. I'm sure it clanks with other moves very often as well.

ZSS whip is an article and doesn't interact the same ways as a lot of hitboxes in the game. Yes sideB can clash with sonic spin, as can Nair/Upsmash/UpB. ZSS nair is the only aerial in the game that can clank with another hitbox.

Proof. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2kjsX1XI7U

Happens at 0:20 vs Sonic nair.
0:55 is an example of SideB vs DownB.
2:35 Sonic Dair clashes and hits ZSS out of nair.

There are probably more examples. Point being don't fear the whip. Mindlessly spinning into Blaster should be a much bigger concern in the matchup.

Yeah, posting and asking questions is a good way to incite discussion. Who knew, right?

Dash Cancel dtilt makes me happy. Actually, Dash Cancel anything does, but dtilt is something special 'cause it likes to link into good, happy combos.

Dash Cancel tilts are pretty good when spaced. Also Dash cancel F-smash can be pretty good too.

Run through them
Dashcancel

Edit: I feel like Sonic is getting a little bit boring after playing him for a longer time. That's why I also picked up Wolf, Lucario and Diddy.

Sonic is less boring the more I fight new people and attend tournaments, because once you start seeing more unique matchups, the more you find that each one requires something new from you. Bair works for me more in the 'Zard matchup, and tilts dominate my Bowser battles, while spins are my go-to against Zelda and spacies. Obviously I use all of the moveset these days, but somethings just work better in better matchups, and some of what Sonic does(like his spins) gets shut all the way down by certain characters. What your basic spin game get wrecked by ftilt by Sheik sometime. I've yet to find a time to run past an enemy and Dashcancel FSmash 'cause plenty of people know what can beat a hedgehog, and it's normally ftilt(or a certain special).

Sometimes I use it as tech chase since people often side step if they see you come running at them

Can anyone help me RARing with Sonic? I can't pull it off without losing all momentum. It seems that you just need ridiculously fast fingers, but are there any tips I can get to help me out with it? Is it even worth mastering with Sonic?

There isn't much to say, but maybe you're trying to overthink it? RAR is initiated when you begin the turnaround animation, not when you're actually turned around. Try running(not the initial dash! Actually be in the run animation) and press the reverse direction and immediately press jump. You can tell by the way Sonic is spinning if you've successfully pulled it off, or you can throw out an aerial and see which way Sonic faces.

Really I end up RARing by mistake so much it's amusing.

Hmm... I understand the basics of it, just having trouble keeping the momentum after the jump. From what you said it is probably me not being fast enough on the jump after pressing the opposite direction. I'm not waiting until I actually turn around...I'm just...too slow. I guess what it comes down to is (as always) practice. Bair is so good and I'd like to reliably approach with it when they're off guard.

Thanks though:bee:

As Sonic has been by far the most criticized character in 2.5, I'd say many smashers assume he'll receive massive changes in the next release and are just holding off until then. This is not counting the people who refuse to play as or against him in his current form.

I've only picked up sonic since 2.5, and I have to say I love him. Definitely my main. I like him how he is.

I main Sonic and second Sheik and Wario. That said, I always get better results with Sheik, because, well, Sheik. But Sonic Dittos are the WORST thing.
Sonic dittos partly have to do with who combos better, also you can Side B the top of your opponents down B to hit Sonis out of it.

F-tilt is a pretty good tool to stop Sonic's spin, and its great for edgeguarding just like vs every character.

If you spin into Sonic and it hits, he can CC it to not receive knockback but it makes him lay on the ground where you can jab reset him. So keep that in mind if you fight a sonic who likes to CC a lot otherwise you just punish however you normally would by spinning into him.

Just placed third at a regional using only Sonic. There are going to be a few Videos of it soon.
I am probably playing other characters in the Future tho (Lucario, Wolf and Diddy)

I'm very interested to see, what is your reason for playing other characters in the future, or do you mean like secondary characters to fall back on?

I feel like I'm having more fun with other characters. I'm not sure yet.
I will be fooling around with others to see which playstyle fits me the most. That's probably okay because it's only a demo yet.

Anyway here is one of my sets from the last smashfest http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2j85JoDOLI4
