What the hell happened to her?

She successfully kidnapped the Mane Six, Spike, and the entire Royal Family, replacing every major figure in the kingdom with Changelings to feed off the love the other ponies feel for them.

...And then Starlight Glimmer, Trixie, Discord and a rogue changeling named Thorax showed the changelings a better way to feed on love instead of stealing it, revealed that Chrysalis was purposefully keeping her people underfed to maintain her power as Queen, then was completely outnumbered when they freed all of the captured major characters, all the while nearly every last one of her former subjects turned on her and stood beside them. Afterwards she rejected an offer at redemption and has since been plotting revenge solo, living alone in the woods, isolated and failing miserably at her later plans.

TL:DR, she went too far in one plan and lost her entire kingdom, and has since started losing her mind as a result of being forced to live alone in the forest, all the while still failing to get revenge at Starlight and the mane six.
