(Well, I believe it varies. At first being adopted, you may be glad to find a battle partner, someone you trust and someone who'll train and care for you...Or, perhaps, you may just be happy to be accepted at all.)

(In my case, I lived alone in the ocean with few to no other Pokemon when I was younger and still a Feebas...I didn't know home or family. But I didn't know any disregard or discrimination, either. I was simply lonely and insecure of my ability to fight...The most effective moves I learned were Tackle and Ice Beam. Yet, despite my limited fighting capacity, Undyne gladly took me in and tended to me unconditionally, and stuck by my side the whole way up to and after I evolved into a Milotic.)

(The Pokemon who became the love of my life was a similar case. He was one among many Magikarp in a tank that were being sold at a high price for supposedly being rare, but his Trainer adored him at first sight just for being himself, not minding whether or not he was a Pokemon, and not caring that he had no fighting ability at the time. She just wanted to adopt the Magikarp for him being him, and she's tended to and trained him from his early Magikarp stage to after his evolution to a Gyarados.)
