-The wave has ended, and they were left to wonder many questions... Thankfully, the village was fine, with the group that associated with Naofumi and the old lady being having defeated many monsters. As many were cheering, Naofumi was asking himself questions, right when he was trying to analyze Glass, a counter appeared in his stat menu-

-It made him wonder, just what are the waves? Why did Glass want to kill him in particular? He's not getting it, but knows that to get the answers, they must prepare for the next wave, and for that he needs to get more skills, as he absorbs the Soul Eater he killed into the shield. He has no problem with learning more skills, but Raphtalia and Filo can't, they need class upgrades and Aultcray has forbid hem from doing so... And speaking of him, the royal guard's captain tells him the King wants to see him-

-In this world, while no cameras exist, there's still spells to record moments in crystal balls. and Aultcray saw what Naofumi did-

-He begrudgingly admits, he did a good job to fend the waves, Naofumi scoffs. Aultcray proceeds to ask how he's got this power, saying he has abilities unbefitting of the Shield Hero, so it's his duty to say it. Naofumi's reaction? That if he wants to know, he should kneel down to him-

Aultcray forbids him from mocking him, Naofumi just says "whatever, I'm just doing this until the waves are dealt with, afterwards I'm gone", Aultcray can't believe it, so he says he'll take it out on Naofumi's slaves. This causes him to give a glare that scares him-

-Furious yet calmly Naofumi says that he won't take more again from him. If he dares to do anything to Raphtalia or Filo, he'll chase him until the ends of the Earth and make him regret he was born, as he walked off. What little pretenses Aultcray had left are and curses him, outright calling him Devil of the Shield. Walking downstairs, one of the queen's spies disguised as a noblewoman told him that his deeds have been spread by word, but that his interference might also attract enemies, as she shows him a rosary, implying he shouldn't trust the Church-

-The episode starts where the last ended, Naofumi asks what is wrong with the knight that attacked, who yelled "how dare you try to kidnap Princess Melty?! Knights, we have to defeat this Devil of the Shield!" as the knights rally against them, the group attacks in self defense, though they don't really injure anyone, but that doesn't stops the knights from overdramatically fall down, making as if they were injured, as the one with the crystal ball kept recording. The knights then ordered retreat, leaving Melty behind with the group, as a new OP starts-


Hayate: "I like this one even more!"

-And right after the OP, mages from the Church are shown, magically altering the footage so it looks like the party is injuring the knights and kidnapping Melty, while changing their expressions to make them look sadistic-

One night, Raphtalia who was hidden under a hood confirmed to Naofumi that the closest towns are not safe to go to, Naofumi figures so as he looks at a rosary of the Church of the Three Heroes, which Raphtalia affirmed is Merlromac's prime religion, as they remember having tied up a knight before to interrogate him, who says he doesn't cares, the Devil of the Shield can kill him, it won't change that he'll pay for altering the natural order-

-Seems Undyne's suspicions of them were right, they're an outright cult-

-Back to the present, Naofumi wonders who would be behind this, of course his first suspicion is Aultcray, but Melty yells that her father would never try to put her in danger, so he asks who she thinks could have done it, she... Well, does admit Malty could have, still he can't see why she'd defend Aultcray, which upsets Melty, still not understanding why they can't set their differences aside, being too much for the kid as she sheds some tears-
